Drex Gets Focused: An Essay on Shenanigans

i will try harder for u bb <3

Tell you what; if you come away from this with a 4-6pack, then we'll just forget about the exercises. Deal? ;)

My big project at work is done. I have the next 2 days off. I wish I could spend most of that time training, but I know my legs aren't going to let me.

8/6/08

6:50AM
Biked 12.54 miles, 43:55, 17.13 mph, Avg HR 114, Max HR 144.

5:02PM
Ran 8.17 miles, 1:06:32, 8:08 min/mile, Avg HR 139, Max HR 155.

OK FF...on the run. I held back some. I spent 10% of my time in Z2, 81% of my time in Z3, 6% of my time in Z4. Compared to last weeks 8 mile run, which was 1% in Z2, 33% in Z3 and 66% in Z4. Avg HR dropped from 152 to 139. How is that? I felt stronger on the last mile this week as opposed to last week, but it just seems I am not getting as much out of the workout.

I got my endurolytes in the mail today. I took 4 at the 5.1 mile point just to try them out and see if there were any adverse effects. I will find out more on Saturday.

I went to look up the Pendlay Row. Have you ever had those dreams where you went out and realized you forgot to put your pants on? This was the first link on the Pendley Row. That first picture...

Damn Drex, I'm honesty VERY impressed by the amount of work you put into your training. Mind if i ask what your occupation is that gives you the time to fit all this in?

I'll do them for you, eventually. Just not at the gym, maybe. Purrrrrrr. Haha, sorry. The 4-6 pack, though, that's for me. ;)

Hey, whycome everyone is like, "Drexatron, you are a robot in disguise! A crappy disguise." And I'm last week's whole chicken. I'll show you, ****ers. :bncry:

Glad you've got a couple of days to sort of chill there, D-unit. I think the rest idea is a good one, but I'm honestly anticipating you ending up doing something silly like running a marathon or swimming the English Channel because you got bored. :beerchug:

The Drexatron is not given time, he makes time. That's what makes him The Drexatron. :luxlove:

I'm a computer programmer. I put in anywhere from 42-60 hours a week working. (usually 45-50) If you add up the hours I spend training, it isn't a lot of hours. I just keep things moving. When I get home from work I am instantly getting ready for my workout and usually start it 15-30 minutes after getting home. Some days, with volleyball it does get late.

I actually started logging my workouts into some software that keeps track. Here are my totals from July 5 - July 31.

Bike: 7h 52m 40s - 133.26 Mi
Run: 17h 08m 01s - 124.1 Mi
Swim: 7h 05m - 4050 M
Strength: 15h 00m
Bike Trainer: 2h 45m
Volleyball: 12h 00m

You misunderstand Focus! I am not planning any rest on my days off, I just wish I could pound out 8 hours of workouts since I have the time. :)

Nono, that's what I mean by "sort of chill." As in, do your usual massive volume of training, but not throw in any random, "Autobots, roll out!"

I honestly think your even trying to do more work would be detrimental, even if you could, but then, I hardly know what I'm talking about. ^_^

Only 15 hours/week. I'm at like, 34. He's lazy! :D

High five for being team "Nerdly Enough to Track Everything With Computers"!

Do either of you take branched chain amino acids pre, peri, post workout in order to prevent muscle loss/catabolism from doing so much training?

All 3 in my case, bizzle. Bout 10g'ish total. 1 drink, split 3 ways. If I wasn't trying to cut, I'd do 15 minutes before and immediately after.

Edit: Two separate drinks (ie. 2 servings instead of just the 1), I mean.

Thoughts

Mmkay, as per a challenger appearing earlier, and the fact that I'm losing strength on my primary movement (from being too tired, I'm pretty sure), running is now restricted to off days and possibly mondays after max upper (later, in the evening), as per the half-marathon training I will now be doing.

Everything but the primary was excellent. The speed stuff rocks, I can really feel it doing its job, and it's improving my control and explosiveness immensely. A month ago I struggled to BB Curl 25x10x3, now 45x10x3 is doable, if not easy. Yeah, buddy. And, uh, there was supposed to be athird set on the bar hangs, but my ripped-off-callus holes in my hands tore open and were bleeding all over everything and generally annoying me, so I decided to call it quits on that. Really need to start sanding those things off before they become a nuisance. Forearms felt prefatigued today anyway.

I also have a wicked excellent story, but I'll be keeping it to myself for now.

Also, for the record, jman and dave were right about chins being easier than pull-ups. I will be doing wide-grip pull-ups for a while to see how that factors.

IMO (and as per my boss at the supplement company), BCAAs don't have calories.

Why are you restricting them on a cut??

Welp, I believe that a) calories is calories and b) they reduce perceived fatigue more than they do actual fatigue - which is to say I'm not convinced of the performance benefits. Also they taste over 9000 times worse than even whey (which still makes me want to vomit every time it hits my mouth), so. I believe the conventional remedy is a citrus-flavored drink to mask it, but I can't do that, as my body will accept no citrus substitutes. I literally cannot hold down flavors like orange, limeade or lemonade. It's quite disturbing.

How much do you take? o_O

Yes. I take BCAA's prior to lifting on lifting days. Non-lifting days I either take them after running or before bed.
