'Cause I've been down, but I was never out! ;)

Its hard to believe that 8 years ago, around this time I was getting out of the Marine Corps at 205 lbs, and today I sit here at 255 down from a high of 285 just a few months ago. WOW, looking at that in writing I don't know whats more shocking, that I gained 80 pounds or that its actually been 8 years! I don't have any excuses for gaining the weight other than pure laziness. In the Corps, I was running 15+ miles a week, when I got out I stopped exercising all together and never really cared what I ate. The weight just piled on. I think I'm on the right track, just eating healthier, drinking less, and exercising again. I'm not running again yet, as I don't think my knees could take it at this weight. I am biking and walking though, as well as lifting weights. It doesn't feel like a diet plan this time.........I think I may have actually decided that losing weight is worth a lifestyle change and I'm kind of digging it. I have many motivations for losing weight, but to be quite honest, THE motivation that has kept this going so far is that I am recently divorced, back on the market, and I really just want to, well to put it nicely.......I want to date more :D Its just that simple. And I don't EVER want to be fat again.

The one thing in my diet that I see so many people say to cut out is the fruit juices. I would rather swallow a handful of broken glass than eat fruit, so I drink it. I try to stick to low sugar or no sugar added juices though.

Welcome to the forum, and good job on your weight loss so far! Great idea for your desire to drink your fruits... Most bottled fruit juices ARE bad, so why not buy some fresh fruit and toss it in a blender and make your own fruit juice??? Much MUCH better for you.

I might try that.......hmmmmmmmmmmm, I'll have to think about it.

you're on the right track. When you make changes to your life style they weight stays off. I agree making your own juice sound like a good idea. Keep up the good work

hi

OORAH! Congratulations on your weight loss so far. Keep up the good work, and you will definitely reach your goals. Be careful out there "on the market". Good luck with your health and fitness efforts!

I Downloaded that song and was going to put it in my IPod for working out. You can do it. The ex-marines I know are nothing if not stubborn.

Now I keep hearing that song in my head :D !!! Glad to have you here and am looking forward to checking in on you!!!! Sounds like you have great determination to reach your goals. By the way...love my bootcamp workouts...although I am sure they are nothing like the real thing:D !

My daily routine changed yesterday and I had to sit in class all day long. GOOD LORD was I hungry yesterday. I don't know what it was, maybe the change in routine, maybe the excrutiating boredom........but I WAS HUNGRY ALL DAY LONG! I did managedto stay focused and not pig out though and I even got to swim a few laps after work which was a nice change in my exercise routine.

Tonight I am going to a get together at a colleague's house. Kabobs for all and the beer will be flowing like water. What I WANT to do is drink 10+ beers and eat a minimum of 2 skewers beef, 2 skewers chicken. What I'm GOING to do is avoid the beer and eat 1 1/2 chicken skewers.

next weight in 06/30/06

You'll have to let us know how the barbecue goes- If you can avoid drinking the beer all together I will be VERY impressed. Keep up the good work!

I'll let you know how it goes. I am HELL BENT on avoiding that beer though. As a matter of fact I am going to take "I will be VERY impressed" as "I really don't think you have it in you fat ass". I'll show you! ;)

Hey now- I'm not really in the position to call anyone else a fat ass- lol But if it'll help you do it, by all means! What I really meant is that I don't have it in ME to avoid beer alltogether. Your willpower is probably 10 times better than mine!

Val I wish you were right. Unfortunately, I caved. :( :( :( After the, heck I don't know, maybe tenth time an open beer was set in front of my I gave in. Luckily I didn't go crazy and stopped before I wanted to. I also got in an hour of swimming laps before the party. Kabobs were postponed until tonight so there were hamburgers and hotdogs. I ate one hot dog. I was invited back tonight for kabobs but won't go. One night away from my routine was more than enough for me.

Yesterday went so-so and I missed my workout. I was just too sleepy. My body must have really needed the rest because I went to sleep at 6, woke up at 8 and watched tv until 9, went back to sleep and I don't think I even rolled over until my alarm went off at 6 this morning. I sure feel good today and can't wait to hit the gym after work.

I ate
1 quaker oats oatmeal raisin bar
1 mountain dew
1 bowl of chicken and wild rice soup
1 can of asparagus
1 cup of V8 splash
1 large bowl of chicken spaghetti

Hey there- Now I feel better about having no self-control with the beer. At least I'm not the only one! It sounds like you did pretty good with food yesterday and now that you are well rested I'm sure you'll get in a good workout today! Keep up the good work :)

Sorry you missed your workout, I know its hard working and still managing time to get your workout. Its one of the reasons i got fat in the first place. Your motivation should be all the girls you will get once you lose that weight. Sounds like a fair exchange to me.

Well its monday morning and I feel pretty dang good this morning. I had to put a new hole in my belt! This weekend went pretty good, but I did kind of overdo it yesterday.........not too bad though. Saturday I worked out like a beast and I'm still sore.......I love that feeling. I can't wait to weigh in this Friday, but I know that I may be close to the same weight. I can really see a big difference in my musculature and I know that muscle weighs more than fat. It won't get me down though, because regardless of what the scale says I see a big difference in the mirror and I'm excited about how things are going. My tan is on fire too!

I guess I better write what I ate for Friday and the weekend.

Friday, a quaker oats bar for breakfaast
a healthy choice microwave thing for lunch
boiled shrimp and 2 big bowls of collard greens for dinner and 1 flour tortilla
a carrot for an after dinner snack
Mostly water for the day, also some diet grape/cran juice

Saturday, a quaker oats bar and some OJ for breakfast
worked out and had two bowls of collards for lunch (I love collards)
boiled shrimp in the early afternoon
chicken kabob for dinner
I hadn't had any dairy in my diet for a few days and my body was craving some milk, that has to be a first for me, so I stopped on the way home and got a little carton of low fat milk.

Sunday, I hate to say it sushi for breakfast. I went to Bruno's to get some yogurt and some fresh veggies and they were just making the sushi for the day. I couldn't resist
lunch was steamed asparagus and squash
I had one yogurt for an afternoon snack, and then a carrot
For dinner I had grilled salmon and grilled asparagus and squash
later I had another thing of yogurt

ok I'm sry my husband is in the military also (eventhough its the air force :p ) and I've only heard that said like once. :D
I just want to say keep up the great work. I don't really like seeing your beer and jim beam listed in there however I know how it is when the guys are around (eventhough I'm a girl :p ). I still applaude you for cutting way back from the huge quantities I'm sure you used to consume on those get together days ;).
Keep up the good work. Its obviously paying off you've lost a great deal of weight already!! :)

I was wondering where you got that from! You're right about the booze, it needs to go completely. I'll work up to that. Thanks for the encouragement!
