Hi Derrick, you totally cheered me up with your message today. Thank you.

You have had a very rough year, but the most amazing thing about you is that you still are soooo positive. I don't know what it feels like to lose all that weight (it must feel pretty amazing), doing it the right way and gain again. But you have taken control of your life, once again. There aren't a lot of people out there who have your resilience and motivation. They just let go, of their aspirations, health and future.

You have a great great few months ahead as you lose the weight, watch Nathan grow (by this time next year he will be running around in your backyard!!!) :), loving your wife and loving life. I wish you all the very best. Lets make a deal to make this year super. Yes?

Thank you Alta! :)

Pictures of my son are attached.

Congratulations! How adorable!! Aweee

Marie, thanks for the inspiring insight! :)

Juni, thanks for the vote of confidence! ;)

MJB, thank you too. :)

So I have been doing pretty damn good overall. My mood and mental well being continues to improve every day. All I can say is, and please excuse the language, FUCK PFIZER! What I really mean is, screw the medicinal approach. I'm done with it. The medicines I was on nearly ruined me. I don't even know if Pfizer makes them but I assume they do. I can't tell you how many people I have met who have also taken medicine for a mental illness only to be made worse off than they were originally.

I have also been eating on the light and healthy side. I'm not losing a lot of weight yet, maybe a couple pounds but at least I'm starting to head in the right direction.

I plan on reporting my June 1st weight tomorrow morning. The highest I got the month of May was 228. I am hoping to be around 225 tomorrow. I would love to make June 2010 as good as June 2008 was. I think I lost 12 pounds that month.

Quick update. I am down to 224.0, which means I have lost a solid four pounds over the past two or three weeks. I have been regularly doing 25 minutes of moderate to high intensity cardio, burning over 400 calories each time. Yesterday I did boxing for a full hour and burned nearly 900 calories. I am EXTREMELY sore today. My back, neck, side and arm muscles are killing me. It feels good though. Finally, I have been eating very good. If I keep all this up, I should be below 220 soon. At that point I should have a lot of confidence.

Derrick

Wow that's so awesome you are losing!! Your approach is working so fly with it!! Doens't the feeling of pain after a great workout feel great for some reason. I love it that you are watching your food intake really well too. Keep it up Derrick - it's great to hear such positive updates from you - I knew it would all work out in your favour!! :grouphug:

Hey Derrick,

Your diary is such an interesting read and really highlights how so many factors in our everyday lives can effect our weight and health. Despite the challenges you have faced you spring back and remain persistent. I am sure there is a book inside you that would make a bestseller!

Damn RIGHT Derrick!!! :D!! Woop Woop! Smashing them pounds!!! :coolgleamA:

...doesn't surprise me, that the gym animal in you is coming out again!! :reddevil:

Hello Derrick!

Great to hear you lost 4 pounds!! That's awesome.

I have faith that you'll keep at it and you'll be back to where you want to be. Like you said it's about being persistant and patient.

I agree with Juni, "You have a great great few months ahead as you lose the weight, watch Nathan grow (by this time next year he will be running around in your backyard!!!) , loving your wife and loving life." I'm sure you have lots of great workouts chasing after him when he begins to move around!! It's great that your wife is there by your side and that you have your kids!

Remember to acknowledge and celebrate losing those 4 pounds!

Have a great day!!

It's been a while since I have posted here. I haven't done so well keeping up with exercising and now I have a respiratory infection so it may be another week before I can get back to the gym. However, I have been doing well with my eating. This morning I weighed 222.5 so I am slowly continuing to lose weight. Like I said before, if I can just get down to 219 I think that will give me a lot of confidence and then I can focus on 209. At 209 I start to like the way I look. Not that I'm going to stop there. I'd love to still get down to 191 and maybe even 181 someday but for now, one step at a time.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Derrick

Keep going Derrick. We are all here supporting you and cheering you on. I hope you reach 219...209....and then 181 soon. Keep us updated, please. Love to hear from you.

Feel better. Rest rest rest....

You'll get there Derrick. No worries. Keep pushing. How's the baby?! :) Super cute I imagine. :beating:! Any new pics!?//

Haven't had much time to post on here lately. Been doing so so. Some really good days and a few bad days but doing pretty good overall. I haven't had a chance to post my July weight. I've been all over the place depending on what I ate the night before. I'll try to post a weight within the next couple of days. My wife went to the gym a couple of days ago for the first time this year so that is exciting for me because we both are at our best when we work as a team. We plan on going together soon. She looks incredible already and gets complements all the time from people who see her with our 8 week old son. I think she wants to lose about 20 pounds and I need to lose at least 30. Maybe we can have a little competition to see who gets there first. :)

I'll post some more soon. Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to visit some journals/diaries soon.

Take care.

Derrick

We'll call my July weigh in

222.5 pounds.

I was 221.5 a few days but then I was up a few pounds and then down again but I couldn't remember if 221.5 was at the end of June or early July. Anyway, it's almost the middle of July and I'm still around 222.5 so we'll just go with that.

I haven't exercised in a while. I got sick for a couple weeks and then had several doctor appointments for other stuff, including my daughter. Also been traveling a bit to the farms. Hope to get back to working out soon and then keep it regular.

Derrick

Oh that'll be kind of cool that you guys do it together! :) TEAMWORK!!! :cheers2:!

Lay off the alcohol! ;)! **cough cough** (trying to take my own advise too! LOL! ;)! )!!

This morning I was 222.0 so I continue to slooooowly lose weight. I started back with a personal trainer this morning, yet another new one. My previous PT got fired.

Mentally I am still much better than I was just a few months ago when I was still taking medication. The only medication I am taking right now is a very light dose of an anti-anxiety drug to help me sleep. And boy does it help me sleep. I even cut them in half and I can still sleep for 12 hours. Well, I would if my wife would let me. LOL Again, my doctor can not believe how sensitive I am to medication. Fortunately, I have not had any negative side effects to this drug like I always do with other medicines.

My son still has colich but he seems to be slowly getting better. At his two month check up last Friday he was up to 50% in height and weight so he has certainly caught up since he was born.

My daughter is doing fine but continues to be a handful.

My wife is doing well and she is slowly getting back into exercising.

I hope to be below 220 soon but its hard to say how my body is going to respond to the new type of training I'm doing. We are actually focusing on muscle and strength gaining right now so I may end up gaining a little bit of weight. Eventually we are going to focus more on fat loss. I wanted to try a different approach this time just to see what happens. I have never really focused on muscle and strength gaining before.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Take care.

Derrick

Yesterday and Tuesday my legs were very sore from Monday's PT session. Today they are much better but my bulging disk in my lower back is acting up. Ice and Advil tonight and I should be ready for tomorrow's PT session.

Derrick

Weight going down slowly is better than coming up slowly!!! Glad to see you went back to a PT and that your wife is getting back in the game too!! Take care!

Thanks Lisa! Have a great wedding and honeymoon! When is the big day, tomorrow?

As for me, went to PT again this morning. Did upper body. Felt pretty good all day but I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow.

Derrick

August 1st weigh in:
222.5 pounds
30% BF according to Tanita
stomach/waist = 43"

So my sister-in-law took my 4 yr old daughter to a toddler run this morning and she came in 2nd out of approx 50 kids. She was beat by a boy only because she slowed down at the finish line which was not clearly showing. My wife and I were not there to watch but we heard all about it and saw all the pics. My little girl had a blast. She's a natural runner and has tons of energy. I think she may be quite an athlete.

Unfortunately I am having a challenging day, mentally. Several triggers have really put me in a horrible mood. Also, I'm in a fair amount of pain from PT last week, particularly my lower back. In addition I apparently have either a bladder infection or the beginnings of a kidney stone. So the pain on top of the mental anguish is more than I can handle right now. I'm currently chilling in my truck at a Schnucks parking lot. My wife and kids are at home, hopefully taking naps.
