Hey cowboy!

I know what you mean with this Canadian weather. I live in Southern Ontario so it is not as cold as it is for you in Alberta but cold nonetheless. Wind and ice/rain makes it worse. I heard this year is gonna be one of the worst winters for us but can't be as bad as it was 2 years ago can it?

I love Corgis! They're very smart dogs so that's probably why she's showing a bit of attitude but with the right training she'll learn quickly and grow out of it. They're very loyal and friendly dogs but they can get competitive in terms of affection haha.

Good luck on your marathon, I'm sure you'll reach your goal.

Vivian

Hi Vivian,

Sometimes I wonder why we live in this country then I see the problems that other countries are having and I am glad to be here. I can live with the weather I guess-lol. I lived in Collingwood when I was little for a few years. I still have family there. Are you in Toronto or somewhere near there? Thanks for stopping by.

I find it really hard to stay on top of the Winter blues too, Cowboy. Getting back into training should help lift the fog. At least when you are aware that it's a seasonal thing you know that it will pass. I'll send you a little bit of our warmth & sunshine xoxo

Hi Cate,

You were right, getting back into training has helped tremendously. Thanks for the warmth and sunshine we received it and it is being put to good use.

Not surprised she is an angry puppy - 7 weeks is far too early to be taken from mummy corgi :( Hope she grows out of it. And that your weather improves - cold as fuck here as well but no snow :(

Weather here has improved so not as cold. Snow has been melting but it is a false sense here as we know we are going to be getting blasted by Winter again. It happens every year. Oh well at least we know what to expect.

I've got Rock N Roll Vegas on my bucket list, too! One of these years. A 93 temperature difference is the most extreme thing I've ever heard of. How on earth is your body supposed to get adjusted to anything?

It is weird really. You don't know whether to put on your down filled coat or your shorts-lol. It is hard to get into the Rock 'N Roll Vegas as they register a year in advance. I think the ones that run it one year sign up for the following year when they are there. Looks like a cool run though.

Well I haven't checked back here for a couple of weeks and ended up on page three . This has become a busy forum- nice to see.

I have been busy the last couple of weeks. Still doing boot camps and running. I have a 10K run coming up in a couple of weeks and I am looking forward to getting back into full training mode as with 9 runs this year I am going to be on full training mode for the whole rest of the year. Which is what I wanted as it keeps the motivation there plus the runs make money for charity. It is a win- win.

Hurt my back last week so no running or boot camp but am feeling better now and run a quick 7K yesterday. Boot camp tonight and Thursday and another 6-8K run on Wednesday. Busy week this week just in exercising-lol. Probably do a 9 or 10K this coming weekend as well.

Food has been good. Weekends are always tougher for me as they are for most of us but this weekend was good. My wife found a recipe for Paleo English muffins. You use almond butter- coconut flour- coconut oil and an egg. Mixed all together and cooked in the microwave for a minute and voila. 2.6 Gr of carbs and about 160 calories and 6Gr of Protein. Tasted all right too. Toasted it with a bit of margarine. A nice change and filling too.

I am going to try to get to some of your diaries to catch up. Things move so fast around here-lol.

That is it for today. Keep fighting the fight!

Page 3 in January ain't no thang, lots of new members with lots to say. Got me curious about those muffins - got a recipe? I'm looking to change up my standard weekday breakfasts of Greek yogurt or a HB egg.

I try to go very low carb for breakfast, but it isn't easy. I must hard boil some eggs as they are eggsellent :) (goofy smile for goofy pun)

Hi Cate,

LOL. I actually eat cereal for breakfast. It is a hard thing to give up for someone that eats the same thing for breakfast everyday. I just adjust my carbs for the day so less of them for me over the course of the day. I am big on pickled eggs- fast, easy and delicious.

Well I am back again. Funny how fast the days go by. I have to catch up on everyone's diary too.

I ran my 10K run this past Sunday. Considering that I didn't really get out to run as much as I would have liked to but I still did my boot camps religiously - I did pretty well. I ran the 10K in just over an hour- actually an hour and 5 minutes. Considering my age and everything I was quite happy with the time. In fact it has been a while since I felt that good during and after the run and still ran 6 minutes per kilometre. I guess the muscle I put on and the conditioning from the boot camps really made a difference with the running, Good thing to know in the future.

I have another 10K coming up in 3 weeks. The race series I signed up for is for 7 more races- basically one a month. It allows me to have a goal and something to train for. Plus they are fun and raise money for charity. So it is a win-win. Most of the races are 10K but I have upped a couple to the 15K mark to see how I do.

My food has been really good lately. I couple of cheats but I am feeling lighter and tighter so I guess something is working. I think the low carb thing is good. I can't go with no carb but I feel so much better since I stopped with the bread, rice, cakes, sweets, etc.. I don't feel as bloated as I used to. I guess I will continue this journey. I still treat myself once in a while but since I am at maintenance I guess that is okay.

That is it for today. I hope to catch up with everyone and post here more often.

Keep fighting the fight!

Thanks Sunflower and LJ!

Well once again I have been missing in action. Damn but life can get busy. I am still boot camping and running. Although the running this past week has been minimal. I seemed to have hurt my Achilles. Nothing serious but I think they are strained. I went to my chiropractor and he said things are pretty tight- as in hips, legs, lower back etc. It is pretty typical for runners to be tight in these areas as most of our exercise is done in the lower body. That being said I think I have to start taking some yoga classes. My flexibility sucks! Maybe with doing yoga I can increase my flexibility and that in turn will loosen things up and running will be better.

I think old age is setting in too. Damn but I wish I did this running thing when I was younger. I feel sometime like I wasted a lot of my exercise youth ( haha). Oh well no use crying over spilled milk. It is what it is.

Next week my wife and I want to do a cleanse. Weight loss for her has slowed down so she wants to do something to shake things up again. We are going to do what is basically a vegetarian cleanse where we eat only vegetables for the week. We will make soups and stews etc but no meat, dairy, or anything wearing hooves-haha. I think it will be good. I have said in past posts that we could be vegans as we eat very little meat. So the change will not be too drastic but hopefully it will help her get through this plateau.

On another note- we decided to go to St. Lucia for a holiday. We have never been to the Caribbean so we are both looking forward to that. It has been cold this month so far. It is almost our Spring but today it is -30C with the wind chill. What is up with that? It will be nice to get away as it has been a while since we went anywhere and it will be warm too and that is a bonus.

That is it for today. Keep fighting the fight

P.S I hope to get to everyone's diary this weekend to catch up on what is happening with all of you!

St. Lucia? How lovely. We're starting to say goodbye to the warm weather. There's morning mist, the leaves are turning & the nights are getting cooler. When are you going Cowboy?

Hi Cate,

We are headed to St. Lucia in May. It is so expensive to go there in our Winter from here so we thought we would settle with going in Spring. It is just the beginning of your Spring here. We are finally starting to see some temperatures over zero so the snow is leaving in a hurry.

Once again it has been a couple of weeks since I have posted. Lots has happened since then. My wife and I were doing a detox when I got the flu or something so I bowed out as I was eating basically nothing for the week we were going to do the detox. She soldiered on though and she did the whole week. She lost 10 pounds so the plateau is broken finally. She was really happy to get past that. She is doing amazing with her lost around 70 pounds. She is doing amazing and I am so proud of her.

I hurt my Achilles running. I was out running a 10K race when my Achilles started to hurt. I tried running through it for a bit but that is not a good idea sometimes. I didn't want to hurt it further so walked and had to bow out of the race. I headed to the Chiropractor and he said it was from my lower back, hamstrings and calves being so tight. Runners usually have imbalances in their bodies as running only really works the lower body. He did some adjustments on me to try to loosen things up and it was successful enough after a couple of treatments and I was back running last week. I am still taking it easy though just in case. I think I really have to start doing yoga or something so I can get some flexibility especially in my lower body. So I signed up for a class to see if I am going to like it or not. I know the yoga works as my wife does it but I don't know-lol?

Boot camp is going well. I am hoping with the cross training of the boot camp, the yoga and the running that I can be a lean and flexible running machine-lol.

I have another 10K run/ race coming up on April 9 so hopefully that goes better than the last one. I hate not finishing a race - there is a bit of a competitor in me that I didn't know I had-lol. So not finishing rubs me the wrong way. Oh well I will put that behind me and move on.

Went to my doctor for my yearly physical. Everything was great. Weight was normal range, bad cholesterol way low , good cholesterol on the high normal side, blood pressure below normal, etc. etc. Funny even when I was 320 pounds all these things were the same as now. I was one of those healthy fat people that doctors don't understand. I am glad that I lost the weight though as I think the older I got the worse those numbers would have been and I wouldn't have been one of those older healthy fat people. Plus I don't think I would be running still if I was heavier. I know when I was even 30 pounds heavier, running was much more difficult. I am so thankful to be where I am today!

That is it for now.

Keep fighting the fight!!

Hi, Cowboy. I'm glad your Achilles is OK. Great doc's report! I was one of those fat "healthy" people too, but we both know it couldn't be sustainable. It feels so much better being so much lighter.
We'll both be away in May. I'll share a few pics I think.

Well it has been some time since I posted here. My holiday to St. Lucia was wonderful. That is such a nice place- it was just what I needed then.

I have been perusing your diaries over the last few months but have been busy so haven't posted in my own-lol.

Weight has stayed pretty much the same. I haven't been running as much lately but still get out at least once a week. Boot camping still but that was cancelled for the next couple of months so I have to ramp up the running again.

I have been doing the low carb thing for a while now and as of late I haven't been as strict as I should have been - damn that chocolate cake-haha. I have been really watching what I eat but not so much on the carb side.

My wife and I are going to try something else to jump start her weight loss- she has been plateauing recently and she wants to lose the last 30 pounds or so. We are going to try fasting. We found a book that a scientist wrote- can't remember his name right now but he has been preaching about the low carb diet for a long time. He says that fasting is actually something we should do in conjunction with the low carb diet as it promotes a healthy body. I have never been much on this but my wife wants to try and so I told her I would do it with her. We will see if it works and if it works with my being so active. Time will tell.

I am going to try to post more on here as I go through this fasting journey. Good or Bad? Who knows but I am going to try it and see.
