I used to have a Vitamix but when these Blendtec ones came out, my family returned it in favor the Blendtec.

They both seemed to get the job done. The Blendtec however has different programs rather than an "on/off" switch and a velocity dial. It also seems to take up significantly less space than the Vitamix. I don't know if the BT model I have and the VM are the same volume. The VM sometimes needed some prodding to get things moving. I don't think I've ever had to really encourage the BT to blend by prodding it with something.
