Hi everyone. I had my last exam for the year today, and I am soooooo relieved to have survived my first year of study - only 3 years to go! When I look back, I'm not actually sure how I fit in working full time, studying part time and obsessing about my diet!!! :D I also had my last blood test today so I'm really pleased about that - I have a serious phobia of needles!

rjm, sounds like you are going great on your refeed. Don't worry about the half kilo - hopefully it was just the salt and I'm sure you'll lose that half a kilo plus some. Bummer about the milk - I guess I'll just have to make myself a half latte when the time comes!

Amberkate, how fantastic is your weight loss and losing 31cms in 3 weeks is huge!!! That kind of loss should give you heaps of incentive to keep focused to your goal.

Joysey, you are also doing so brilliantly. Congratulations! You'll see the big 6 on your scales before you know it!

Missysmum, you are such a strong soul with all you've been through in the last few months. I think the fact that you are still on your diet at all during all these hardships is testament to the strong will you must possess - it's not selfishness at all - so please don't be so hard on yourself. Yes, I am busting to start my refeed. I just can't wait until the 22nd comes around!

I weighed myself this morning and I'm now on 64.4kg - over 27kg down - so I'm feeling pretty good. I would really like to see the big 5 on my scales by the time I finish my refeed, but I think I might be pushing it a bit. My weight loss is so slow now - the last couple of weeks have been 600gm - but every little bit helps.

Well, have a great weekend and everyone and we'll chat soon. :p

newbie with some questions! :)

hello all.

i have just joined this forum after i discovered it via google. what a shock, i know ;)

i have only recently learned about the cohen's program. i have looked at their website, but wondered whether some of you could answer some questions for me? i am a uni student and so i live on a pretty tight budget. how much is it to do the cohen's program? i couldn't find that info on their website, so i'm a bit concerned that it costs a fortune!

also, how does the program work exactly? what sorts of food do you get to eat and in what sorts of amounts? i don't, for example, eat red meat. is that something that can be factored into the equation?

i'd be really grateful to hear your stories and thoughts on the program. i am twenty-seven and thanks to a couple of medications i am required to take [for bipolar disorder] have gained about twenty kilos in the last year and a half. i'd really love to lose that weight and get back down to what i formerly was.

thanks for reading. i look forward to your responses :)

:)Welcome Bruisesroses to answer a few of your questions the price when I joined was $595 it may have gone up im not sure also bloodtests are required at $20 book in for a free info session and ask everything then also tell them about your medication because i take antidepressants and they said that some medications can make the weightloss slower. My sister and best friend have bipolar and the medication can be a pain re: weightloss but its amazingly fast results on this diet 2kg a week weightloss and no cravings as your body goes into ketosis and loses fat rapidly. If you dont like meat you can have chicken or fish,2 pieces of fruit a day,5 vitaweats,1 litre of diet coke, cheese, yoghurt, only certain types of vegies and fruits though, you must eat main meals every 5 hours and can have only 2 vitaweats at a time every 2.5hours and atleast 2 to 3 litres of water a day and 5 pieces of sugar free gum. when you reach 2kg from your goal weight they make a refeeding plan to introduce more food back into your diet that can take 2 to 3 weeks to complete and then they give you guidelines on how to maintain. Its no quickfix but a lifestyle change so if you eat the bad foods in abundance again you will not stay at your ideal weight. If ive missed anything out someone here will add it in. Goodluck and make sure you ask any questions you like at the info session if you go. What state do you live in? Im in Canberra and we only have one clinic here. Have a great weekend everyone and hope we all lose lots before xmas. Hi missysmum thinkin of ya,hope you are hangin in there. I will post soon when i see the magic number 8. Take care everyone.

Hi all,
I have been following this and the previous forum for several months. It's good to see it up and running again. Congratulations to every one who has reached their goal and also to those on their way. You are all inspirational. I have lots and lots to lose. I lost 17 kgs very quickly but then I went off track and it has been hard to keep going. I'm hoping with the warmer weather it will be easier to drink the water and stick with the salads. :) Kaseysmum, I am also in Canberra and the people at the clinic are very helpful.
To Missysmum, my brother also has had non-hodgins lymphoma. At first it is a shock to hear this but you have to be positive for yourself, and be positive and supportive for your son-in-law and daughter. My brother was diagnosed 5 years ago and at present he is doing well. My doctor said that if you had to get cancer this probably was the most curable type to have. Hope this helps you.

To everyone, thanks for your support and hope everyone has a good week.

:D WELCOME Raja!!!Thats great you have finally joined the forum I too have followed the forums moving from one thread to the next. I have been on and off my plan this year so dont be too hard on yourself and I started in January this year. I lost 22kg pretty fast and then lost the plot and put back on 14kg  well I know that the results are fast and encouraging so I have been getting back into this week, and yes the warmer weather definately helps. Ive been having a boiled egg for brekky with salad on 2 crackers and I know this must sound discusting but it tastes nice. For lunch ive been having the mozarella cheese with salad on 2 crackers and for dinner chicken salad along with an orange and apple for fruit. I have 26kg to lose so I should be finished this by now but you have to be totally ready mentally aswell as committed to wanting to do this plan. At one stage i just felt it was too hard and I had 12kg to goal at the time but just threw it in but now Im ready to finish this once and for all. Raja did you notice who has moved in next door to cohens? I just noticed today that curves has moved right next door to them how convenient. Hey Becky hows the refeed going? My friend who completed the refeed ages ago lost more weight on the refeed so its not something to stress over. Well today marks 6 weeks til xmas so we should all start a tally on how much we can all add up together our weekly losses. This is only a suggestion maybe a motivator to stick to our plan. Hope we all have a great week losing this week, cyas!!;)

Hi to you all everyone seems to be going so well which is great to hear.

Rajah I dont know how advanced or what stage your brother was but we were told friday its stage 4 and in his bone marrow. It just doesnt seem that it will be a good outcome every new piece of news just gets worse. He shaved his head today as the chemo will be pretty aggressive so my little grandson shaved his as well. Chemo starts tomorrow and with it will be more results so we are hoping that some of them will be ok.

My diet well what can I say it stinks at the moment everytime I try comes more tears and I really do know I eat for comfort but tomorrow is another new day and I promise my diet will be back on track. Will post and tell you all I made it through the day eating the right food.

Just a quick post will catch u all tomorrow Di

Hi Everyone,
I see some familiar faces here!! Don't know quite what happened in the other foum...but it's nice to see you all again.
I am 3 1/2 weeks into my program weight loss of 5 kilos. A little disappointed, but I am trying to do my best considering the amount of functions we get invited to.
I am still struggling with the amount of meal option 3 for me. It takes me almost an hour to eat the amount.
It's been interesting to read how others are finding the refeed. My consultant told me last week she had put on 3 kilos and went back on her original diet and lost the weight in 2 days. I find that encouraging.
Anyway...good to see another support and venting process up and running.

Myshy

Hi everyone. I wrote a big post over the weekend and then I hit a wrong key and lost the whole thing:mad: , and was too tired to write it all again. Welcome to all the newcomers and nice to see you back again myshy.
Well re-feed is going really well. I lost half a kilo at the beginning, and my weight seems to go up and down by this half a kilo ( today it is down). It is really nice having more variety of food, but it does feel like an awful lot to eat. I am battling my way through it all as I know it is really important for the rest of my life. My body needs to able to process a reasonable amount of food. Today I am up to add 80g "old"protein and 40g "new" protein and 160g old veges, also 3 slices bread and add 2 "bad" pieces of fruit ( which makes a total of 4 pieces of fruit) and I can have 50ml of skim milk ( but I have to "buy" that with 40g of my "old" protein). I have just had my first cup of coffee with milk in 4 1/2 months, and gee it was nice. I also don't have to wait 5 hours in between meals any more, and have to start mixing my proteins (eg if the program says 120g chicken, I can have 60g of chicken and 60g of steak).
I'm progressing well through the program, and am now feeling really positive that I will complete this without gaining any weight, and that I will be able to keep the weight off for ever.
Yesterday I went on my big shopping spree, and had a ball. It is so nice to walk into the shops and try on almost anything and know it will look good. I also didn't mind the communal change rooms that all the warehouses seem to have!! I bought so many clothes, but made sure there is no room to grow in any of them, so I can NEVER put the weight back on or I will have nothing to wear.
lmr, not long to go now, only 1 more week!!
Kaseysmum, sounds like you eat almost exactly the same as what I used to eat!! I joined curves about 8 weeks ago, and have found it great. I am so much fitter than I was when I started, and can get around the circuit at a good pace now. When I first started i was only walking on the spot at the recovery stations. I had my 2nd set of measurements done by curves last week, and the girls were dumbfounded. They said they have never seen anything like my weight loss before.
Missys mum, stay strong. I wish there was something more I could say to you, but as always my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Anyway everyone, have a great day. Talk to you all soon.:)

Hi all
well done to you all on your weight loss and will power. I still have not joined up, in the mail the other day i got all the information and have read Over it twice, but today am unsure if i should join now or after christmas, then i think maybe i should join now, and just battle through christmas functions and christmas !!! very unsure !! Missys-mum very sorry to hear of your news my thoughts are with you and your family.
Will keep you all posted on what i decide to do. have a good day- Casey.

kaseysmum

:D Hi to everyone! Becky you are going great Ive heard it can be quite hard to get through all the food on the refeed you must be on cloud nine and not long til your holiday away. Casey just think it could be 8 weeks until you start as they shut the clinics over xmas and Dr Cohen stops for xmas for a couple of weeks too,I know this because I joined in December and had to wait til early January for my program so just think how much weight you could have lost in 8 weeks between 15 to 20kg for sure, really xmas is just another day if that is worrying you for one day dont weigh your food eat a small piece of something you really want and then the next day get back into it,im not telling you what to do as its better to keep your body in ketosis mode to stop the cravings and fast weightloss. Its really up to you the longer you leave it the harder it can be to start something thats the way i see it. Keep up the losses. Until next time:cool:

Hi Everyone, hope you are all going well. I am now on day 43 and have list 14.75 kgs and can really see and feel it now.
MYSHY: you have me puzzled, what do you have on your meal option 3 that takes you so long to eat.
Look forward to reading your posting.

Hi everyone and welcome to the newcomers.

rjm, sounds like you had a great time shopping! I've got a week off work in early December because we're getting a puppy, so I think I'll put one day aside to do a big shop. I literally have no clothes at the moment and it's really frustrating! Glad the refeed is going so well. When do you leave for your holiday?

I'm very excited that one week today I pick up my refeed. I'm a little disappointed with my weight loss the past few weeks. I've only lost 2.2kg in three weeks. I was hoping to be closer to the big 60, but I'm 64 so I'm guessing I'll be around 63 this time next week. But I'm feeling fabulous and am looking forward to getting through the festive season and then I'll attack the last few kilos.

Myshy, sounds like you are going really well. 3.5kgs in 5 weeks is fantastic! I'm curious like Joysey - what do you have to eat for meal 3???

Speak to you soon. :)

Hi everyone,
Great to see everyone is going well. I have managed to stay on track the last few days and I already can feel the difference. Trying to drink the water and I'm sure the extra exercise running back and forwards to the bathroom also helps. ;) Still a long way to go but you are all motivating. I'm going to do this this time.

It must be exciting to go shopping and get new clothes or when people don't recognise you. Just can't imagine what it's like. One day.......

To Missys-mum I am thinking of you and your family and pray that all goes well. It's a very tough time for all of you.

Till next time, everyone keep losing and have have a good night. :)

Hi Everyone,
I can't tell you all enough how much I enjoy reading through all of your postings.

Missys Mum - thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

RJM- I was staggered reading through your post! I can barely eat what I have now,let alone have to include more. I was looking forward to refeed but I am a little worried now. Is it more relaxed or harder to maintain?

Amber Kate - I usually have cheese for lunch, but find if I have it with salad I get hungry - but not so if I steam my vegies and grill the cheese over the top.

LMR- Good luck with your results. I sat exams last week myself. Normally exam period is a lolly feast - but I managed not to break once.

LMR & Joysey - My meal options for meal 3 are :115g meat & 105 vegies.(really struggle with this amount)
I don't eat fish so that wipes out another 2 options.
105g chicken & 95g vegetable. Again I struggle with this amount. I find it managable if I crumb the chicken and have some mayo and sweet chilli, but sometimes struggle with the salad component. Went ok tonight though, and I know I can't live on that!

My consultant told me she ate chicken for her entire program apart from one day. She had a similiar amount of weight to lose and says there isnt really any harm, but I know from experience I am more likely to suceed if there is variety.

So far I am only missing beetroot and red capsicum.
I am sleeping really well even during the past week when I was sitting exams. Normally I am so stressed I get to my exams being overtired and foggy. It was a nice change to be alert.

Popped one of the kids M&M's in my mouth today - couldn't believe how sweet it was. Didn't eat it!!!

I can't remember who made the point about crisbreads. I am going to give mine a break too. I was not eating them because I was hungry - more habit, but will monitor the scales over the next few days to see if it makes a difference to me.

Anyway - hope everyones scale drops down a notch tommorow.

Myshy:)

Hi Everyone, great to read the threads,
MYSHY: Yes, I was the one to let you know about the chrisp breads, if you cut them out you will see a quicker weight loss as they contain flour. I think they give us this option of having them bacause if you don't and only eat the food it works out to around 350 - 380 cals per day which is extremely low, so be careful you don't get dizzy or fell sick when cutting them out. I did it slow, 5 for 4 days, 4 for 4 days etc. and now none at all. If it is any assistance at all I actually have red capsicum sometimes and it has not effected my wight loss at all. Also with the chicken get some of the masterfoods chicken seasoning and sprinkle it over when you are cooking it, it is just beautiful, I also sprinkle the garlic and herb seasoning on too. Just make sure you drink at least 3 litres of water a day and it will all flush out and not stay in your body. Just wondering how much do you have to loose, I know that is a personal question so if you don't want to answer it please don't.
IMR: Can't wait to see how you go on the re-feed, really looking forward to reading your posting.
RAJAH: Great to hear you are back on track, how long have you been on the diet for?
CASEY: I totally agree with what Kaseymum said about starting now because I have lost 15.25kgs in 6 weeks. But it is only 5 weeks + a bit now until xmas so you will probably have functions to attend and parties, I would wait, enjoy yourself to the MAX, because when you go on it you won't want to break it and Xmas will be over and done with. You also have to remember that the weight you will put on in the next 5 weeks is only surplus weight (which means it hasn't been there for ever) so it will drop off just as quick as it went on. Yes, wait, enjoy your festive season and then start, because like I said, it is a super strict diet, but it works.......
RMJ: How are you going on your re-feed, I'd love to know.....
MISSY MUM: I guess I can say this on behalf of everyone here. "HERE IS A GREAT BIG HUG, FROM ALL OF US" , you take care of yourself and don't worry about anything, things have a strange way of sorting themsleves out.
Well everyone I hope you all have a good Cohen's day and I hope you all tip in on those scales tomorrow (if you are a weighting fanatic) just a bit less.
JOY

Im soooooooooo happy to finally find a support network for Dr Cohen's.

I have been on it for 6 weeks now and I have lost 11kgs and 31.5cms.

Im finding it easy overall but sometimes I do find it hard. Like when I had a work dinner to attend.

I broke totally that night.

My starting weight was 106 and today I am 94.5.

I look forward to talking to you all and bouncing off you.

Just a question about the re-feed and onwards. Do you have to continue to weigh your food forever???
