Encouragement for M2M

Hey M2M, I kind of know how you feel. I had an idea, though...

Set aside some money for a REALLY great outfit for Christmas. Set aside some more money for a fabulous haircut, some new makeup, maybe a pedicure. The works.

Don't tell anybody about your weight loss progress. If anyone notices, be coy and just say thank you and move on. Hold onto your patience, because you will reveal your incredible SECRET IDENTITY at a big family gathering or other Christmas party in mid-December!

It will be like one of those makeover shows, where you walk in transformed, and the eyes that have not noticed your hard work over the next six months will pop out of their sockets as you glide into the room. You will be slimmer, more toned, and more full of confidence than they have ever seen you before. They will wonder why they didn't notice before, but YOU will know that it was because you chose to conceal your SECRET IDENTITY until the time was just right to knock their socks off!

BTW - this is my plan for my in-laws' big Christmas gathering. :D :D :D

heh. i better start typing out your full names or i'm gonna start confusing twinmom2791 with twinsmom22. ;) is everyone having twins? ;)

M2M - thanx for the cheer. *blush* I'm very excited cause my mini-goal of 35 pounds is so close now. and yeah. a pound a week is very realistic and a very good do-able. plus it's much better on your body that you don't lose the weight that fast. the way I see it is we all put the weight on gradually, so we can't expect it to magically disappear like that. plus your skin will be uber-thankful. it gives it time to shrink. although you see people lose alot of weight on tv like Biggest Loser, I'm pretty sure they have alot of saggy skin. body needs time to adapt. As for hiking... You can just make a rough estimate. You don't need to be that thorough. Remember, this is just a way to help you get motivated. :)

twinmom2791 - Mmm. Tomatoes! they're one of my favourite veggies. Yummy. and... LOL. I LOVE your idea about the secret identity thing. sadly, I've already exposed myself to my friends and family.

It looks like alot of us has Christmas in mind as a mini-due date (both twinsmom22 and twinmom2791), it's about 6 months away. I think... by Christmas, I'd like to be 240 which is about 30 pounds from now (a conservative but realistic goal). Come on guys... We can do it you guys! p'-'q

Twinmom2791, the secret identy is a fabulous plan and it would be very fun to pull off!

I wouldn't be able to spring my new self on anyone, since the people I'll see at Christmas are the people I see every day though!

Initial_C, you are so close to your mini goal! Even if your mom hasn't noticed, I'm sure you must feel it in your clothes! I know I do after 19 lbs!

If a pound a week is doable, then is it possible to lose 5-7 a month without radical excercising? (I'm just not up to that yet!) I did walk a mile tonight with my daughter, but that's not what I call radical ;) I planned out my whole goal list based on 5-7 pounds a month. I hope it's realistic.

Oh, and is it you who are keeping track of the km? I'm a USAmerican who missed the metric system somewhere along the way, so I would have to google the info if you need it!

Count me in for a Christmas mini due date!

It's closer to 7 months (30 weeks) away since it's near the end of December ;)

I would like to be at 195 for Christmas, that's close to 45 pounds. At 1.5 pounds a week, that *should* be do-able.

Of course, that doesn't account for the month of November, my official holiday baking month

Wow ladies it sure has been busy in here.

Welcome all. Feel free to talk about whatever you want while you are he. I pretty much started it for those of us who have a long way to go before they are out of the 200's

Speaking of support my mom is really supportive and we walk together a lot. My mother-in-law on the ohter hand is horrible. She is kinda nuts to put it nicely.

When I was pregnant I was wearing some new maternity clothing she had not seen and she said to me and I do not lie. "Oh Jenn you don't look so fat in that outfit" My husband was appauled and said "you mean pregnant." She said "oh".

Another time we were out on the boat and it was so very hot my husband jumped in to cool off but "I didn't have a bathing suit so I didn't. So hubby said" why don't you sit at the back and put your feet in. His mom said "she won't fit she's too big" Can you believe the balls on this lady? There are so many more stories I could go on for days.

No wonder I can't stand her. Since I've had the baby she watches what I eat and if I say no to a second helping or dessert she says oh are you on a diet? You aren't eating very much. It takes all of my strenght not to tell this woman where to go. She constantly looks me up and down.

Oh and the real kicker was when I had my baby she told me that when she had her son she could put her jeans on and leave the hospital in her regular size clothes. Bla Bla Bla. Cruel woman.

I just thought I would share that little tid bit. My best friend and I have always been yo yo dieters and always really support eachother which is really nice. But I find so much encouragement and support here it has been really helping me eventhough I have not lost anyting in like a week and a half. Very frustrating but I have you guys.

About clocking your distance as initial c said it's just for fun to motivate. I use a pedometer to track my distance. They aren't that expensive I think anywhere from 12 -30 dollars at Canadian Tire if your Canadian, if not then Walmart, or Target may have them. I use the pedomether because I kind of like knowing how far I have moved in a day.

Gee I rambled on and on

At any rate Welcome to the fourm!

Hey we should have a graduation ceremony of some kind as we move out of the 200's

My December goal is to be 200lbs by Christmas. That is pretty steep because I have to lose 10lbs a month.

Oh Jennifuffa! You're MIL needs a muzzle! I hope your husband says more to her than just correcting the pregnancy comment. He should seriously considering laying down some ground rules for common decency since she isn't able to do it herself :(

Urghghgh...

Just thinking of her comments is enough to make me want to say something to her ;)

I'm glad to hear your mother is so supportive!

Up until the last post, I had never actually believed I could be out of the 200's by Christmas. Thinking of what I need to lose per week, really brought home how possible it is.

We CAN do this!

M2M

Oh he puts her in her place. But there is something wrong with her for real. Her mother had dimensia and I am thinking that she has the first stages I have a feeling that may be the source of her meanness.

Your goal is totally doable. Mine is a little far fetched unless I get my butski in gear.

My shorter term goal is to be 240 by September which is 7.5lbs a month. That was my pre-pregnancy weight. I gained soooooooooooooo much when I was pregnant because I used my pregnancy as a licence to eat everything.

conversion

The conversion for miles to km is 1.6X. Take whatever number of miles you walked and multiply that times 1.6 and you have km. (It is actually 1.609... but I very much prefer to round it to the tenths place. I have been rounding all of my distances to the tenths place.) Here are some helpful numbers...

1 mile = 1.6 km
1.5 miles = 2.4 km
2 miles = 3.2 km
3 miles = 4.8 km
If you walk further than that you have enough energy to do your own math!

Oh yeah, and BTW - I can't wait to reach a point where I have lost 19 pounds, or 35 pounds... you guys are doing great! My goal is to average about a pound a week over the next two years. If I do that, I will reach my goal weight right after I turn 36. If it comes any faster, that is just a bonus!

Jenn - I feel your pain about in-laws. Mine are horrid, too. I try to tune them out, and remember that they are an ignorant bunch of jerks, but I am stuck with them in my life whether I like it or not. You hang in there and try hard not to let your mother-in-law have any more of your thoughts than you have to. She is not worth it.

Twinmom2791, thank you for the conversion! And your weight goal sounds teriffic, healthy and attainable! You'll be hitting the 19 and 35 pound mark in no time!

When I first started losing 1 pound a week, and I would look at hoooowww many I still had to lose, I felt overwhelmed! However, I was able to lose 1 pound a week without a HUGE change in my diet/life style and 19 weeks flew past! It's not so daunting anymore!

Jenn, your September goal sounds ideal! That you can definitely do :)

As for me, pregnancy was just the opposite, I gained 13 pounds while pregnant and lost 16 when I had my daughter. I was *so* excited. My pre pregnancy weight was 219 and I walked out of the hospital at 216 - but after a short while, I had to go on a strict non allergenic, non irritant diet, and when I went off of that, I shot up to 230 in no time. I've spent the last 10 years going from there to 250-255. So I really can't blame ANY of this on baby weight ;)

I walked in the heat. Not as hot as TO but warm just the same it was 24 Celcius with 56% humidity which feels like 28C. This was at 10am. Maybe I sweated off a little extra.

I went 2.6kms

whic leaves us with

510.08 kms

Bad night!

I ate too much pizza last night for dinner, and on top of that I ate way too late in the evening. I knew I was eating too much when I did it, but I just could not seem to stop. I have got to really limit how often we order pizza, because it is a huge weakness for me.

Warning - the next part is gross...

Anyway, my body punished me in the middle of the night. Around 5:30 this morning, I woke up sputtering with acid in my throat and even coming up my nose. I ran choking to the bathroom and finally got my throat clear and it took nearly half an hour to quit coughing up stuff that was running back out of my nose. It burned and hurt so bad. I have experienced acid reflux on occassion - maybe once every couple of months - but this was the worst. I woke up thinking I was actually choking to death!

I got back to sleep and when I woke up this morning I still had a sore throat, but I feel like this was my body telling me to not be stupid. I love pizza. I just don't want pizza to kill me, either slowly over time or quickly like a marauder in the night!

Oh yeah, and I sneaked some miles in on you yesterday, Jenn. With your 2.6 km we are actually down to...

506.8

A Ticker For Me :)

OK, I finally got a ticker to work! I've been working on it (and doing it wrong repeatedly) for two days now. I had no idea that the site would insert the ticker in every post I've already made! LOL!

Anyway, I try to only get on the scale on Friday. I tend to eat better through out the week, so I'm generally at my lowest come Friday morning ;) However, I'm a bit frustrated, I started my cycle yesterday and I went and stepped on the scale. Up 2 pounds! I had no idea I gain that much during this time. I'm just going to ignore it and wait (weight?) until Friday and see what the scale says then. That's when I'll post any gains or losses.

Twinmom2791, I do the same thing with pizza. My husband and I can sit down and eat a large between us. Not Good! I hope you're feeling better today :)

BTW, does the 506.8 km include my 3.2 km from this week? Am I supposed to add that to the total when I post or did someone else do it?

M2M's miles

I got one of your miles in an earlier post - with your second mile that brings us to...

505.2 km!

You can subtract your total from here on. :)

Oh pizza. Pizza is to me, as Pork Chops are to Homer Simpson. My weakness too. I don't know how to stop either. My favourite is Pizza Hut's super greasy deep dish.

Have you ever though of making your own dough and adding your own healthier topings and controling the amount of cheese you use? I make my own dough in my bread maker and honestly the pizza tastes super. Of course I don't always make my pizza either.... I'm no angel.

Yes I think it would just be easiest to subtract our own totals from the most recent total that way nobody gets missed.

Snacking While Cooking...

Speaking of pizza (I'm fixing dinner right now)...I snack while I cook. A lot. In fact, that is probably where I tend to over eat the most. So, tonight, I put a huge bowl of grapes on the counter while I'm fixing dinner and I haven't made a grilled cheese sandwich yet ;)

Someone tell me it IS progress!

Tonight I walked a mile - and after it was said and done, I figured out how to set my new pedometer! Starting tomorrow, I will have better numbers!

BTW, do you guys who use a pedometer tally up the distance for the whole day or just when you "go for a Walk"?

503.6 km!
