Tactic of the Day

Don't eat anything you're holding in your hand! (even just for one day)
It's amazingly easy to eat a hand-held anything, almost without noticing - a sandwich, an icecream, hot chips, a quick slice of bread-and-butter folded over whatever's handy... and without even noticing there's a meal'sworth of eating gone.
So the aim of this tactic is to slow down the eating and make me a bit more conscious of it. How am I going to tackle the apple that's there waiting for lunchtime? By slicing it with a sharp knife, and then delicately picking up the slices with a cake fork! :p

Tactic of the Day

Put a mirror either on or right next to the fridge,
so that you see it when you're heading in to look for something to eat.

To see myself just as I'm opening the fridge will remind me of the person I'm doing this for - i.e. me! I'm not where I want to be (i.e. the other end of the 160s Club!) but I do like how I look right now, and I don't want to wreck it - to undo my achievements so far - by mindlessly eating.

That´s a sneaky one! Although I just realized I DO have little mirrors on my fridge - and the kitchen cupboards as well - but they´re all at heights that don´t let me look into them naturally :p

amateur... :)

Challenge accepted!
I had a half-apple chopped up into my porridge this morning, along with the last half-banana. I'll chop the second half for lunch, and will flourish triumphant chopsticks at you after downing the lot!

:hurray: Apple successfully eaten with chopsticks! :hurray:

:p

Tactic of the Day

Before giving in to an apparently irresistible urge to eat something silly,
drink a large cup of hot water with a squeeze of lemon in it!

The idea here is to not deny myself whatever it is that seems for a minute to be so astoundingly desirable, (Arnotts Malt Sticks, for example) but to say "Okay, I'll indulge myself, because why the heck not! But first I'll have a warming, wholesome hot lemon drink."
And then maybe by the time I've finished the drink I won't especially want the "treat", but if not, no harm done, and water's a good thing, and it'll fill me up a bit anyway. :)

I like that one! Think I´ll try it tomorrow.
Hooray! :hurray: Let me know how it seems to work out.

Tactic of the Day

Engage the nose!

The plan here is to stop, close my eyes and really savour the fragrance of whatever it is that I'm about to eat, before I actually get down to eating it!
My hope is that more sensory engagement will --> more appreciation (in the broadest sense) of what I'm eating will --> make the food more satisfying, so that I'm less likely to want a snack in the next little while.

I thought I'd better nip in, as there is a strong possibility I'll be booted out of here at tomorrow's weigh-in. Very funny stuff with the 'Tactic of the Day' Amy - some lovely ideas. :)

No? Okay, it's wild suggestions from my flagging brain again...

Tactic of the Day

All hands to work - but not near food!

A weekend-specific suggestion, or lockdown-specific, maybe - at any rate, not suited for a work-day. This has been great for me in the past - the idea is to get engaged in something which uses my hands, and which cannot possibly in the nature of things be anywhere near food. Like getinto some delicate embroidery, or re-potting water-lilies, or fine woodworking, or really complex origami or (as I will be doing this weekend) knitting. Anything that you don't want to get crumbs of chocolate biscuit (etc) on.

Sorry, I got booted out. :smilielol5:

Hmm... what can I suggest? How about a 'water only' day? Sometimes I start drinking too many soft drinks, milky coffees, etc. so it could be a good one?

Oh, that's a goodie! :) Do you want to put in the colour and centre it, or should I?

(And I can't imagine who booted you out! As far as the committee knows, you're a member in extremely good standing!)

Tactic of the Day

Have a water only day!

Sometimes it's good to take a break from all the teas, coffees, juices, and stick to what we know is amazing for our bodies - water!

Great tactic, Em! I'm (genuinely) swigging water as I type! :)

Lovely to see you here. LaMa, though only a fleeting visit! :seeya:

I don't want to weigh myself this morning but there's no doubt I belong in this club now. And I don't want to! To be quite honest I'd like to get to the 150s club at some point. And since admitting you have a problem is said to be the first step towards solving it I did just weigh myself. 79.6 kg  Admittedly that's after drinking half a liter of water. But still: 8 kg more than in early December. And I'd promised myself to pull the brakes if I'd ever get over 75 kg again...
