Don't eat anything you're holding in your hand! (even just for one day)
It's amazingly easy to eat a hand-held anything, almost without noticing - a sandwich, an icecream, hot chips, a quick slice of bread-and-butter folded over whatever's handy... and without even noticing there's a meal'sworth of eating gone.
So the aim of this tactic is to slow down the eating and make me a bit more conscious of it. How am I going to tackle the apple that's there waiting for lunchtime? By slicing it with a sharp knife, and then delicately picking up the slices with a cake fork!
