Cloverfield

There is alot of philosophy in the matrix. Your all just blind to it.

Open your mind.

LMAO, we all know it's there, it's just that it's very basic stuff and thrust into your face like a philosophical lapdance, it touches a few bases but lacks any depth and is instantly forgettable

Apparently here are the 4 tennants of Matrixism.

" The Four Tenets of Matrixism---

1. Belief in the Prophecy of the One.

2. Recognition of the semi-subjective multi-layered nature of reality.

3. Acceptance of the use of psychedelics* as sacrament.

4. Adherance to the principles of one or more of the world's religions until such time as the One returns. "

Sooooo...pick a religion to believe in, take some drugs to induce a trip to the other side until the One comes back. Awesome...so let's all be hippies and embrace Matrixism.

Point out these "basic" philosophies you talk about.

And if your thinking the only kind of philosophy there is has to do with the real/fake world, and red/blue pill then you need to pay closer attention.

There's alot of philosophy that had to with Rene Descartes, Plato's republic (platos 4 lines of reality ), there are dozens of platonic overtures in the first movie alone. The story has alot of buddhist ideas as well, such as "there is no spoon" and how it exists only relative to everything else. Seriously, each character represents so much meaning that you can write dozens of papers ( trinity and the mother of God )

I have always loved the matrix, just because i am fascinated by the idea that machines will one day reach self awareness. If you watch the animatrix, it explains the prequel the matrix, and how the matrix was created and the events leading up to the robot - human war.

It is one of the best sci fi movies ever created because it is so debatle, it is filled with so much religious meaning, so much thought. The story is so complex and long, that there can be a matrix 10000 and it would still be amazing.

As for Matrixism, it's like any other religion, and actually makes sense.

What you posted about Matrixism seems incorrect Evo, i've never read anything about a prophey of the one. Matrixism is basically believing the reality we perceive to be real, might not be real and that "God" has created this reality to test us, etc.

Phate, what you dont understand is all the concepts you just listed aer things you learn on the first day of a good philosophy and religion class. It's basically religion for dummies.

Well, i love that stuff. I love philosophy, so thats probably a reason why I am so addicted with the Matrix plot and story. Looking forward to the day i can take some philosophy classes.

As for the four principles, its plastered all over every matrixism site i can find.

You don't need a philosophy class to study philosophy. Get some good nature of reality books, check out some plato, some aristotle, some nietzsche. just go educate yerself!

done that....:p

some nietzsche.[/QUOUTE]

Please...no...Nietzshe. If I never have to read/study him again it'll be too soon. Between literary criticism class, literary theory class, and the study of literary authors class I've had my fill.

It's kind of like when you're an education major and you have to study Pavlov, Freud, and Skinner every semester for 2 years you just want to die when their names are mentioned again. However, I suppose it makes for good comprehension. :)

you like the matrix because of philosophy
you cant' wait to take philosophy classes to learn about real philosophy
i suggested some reading
you said "been there done that"
i said "and you like the matrix better?"

what's to misunderstand?

What part of the matrix does not have REAL philosophy?

Wtf is fake philosophy then?

lol...The Matrix looked at an interesting concept. The "philosophy" parallels zen buddhism principles. And by "parallels", I mean "takes" or "borrows".

Original thinkers are hard to come by. If you want to watch a movie with a lot of things you probably haven't thought of, I suggest "Waking Life".

I look forward to the World of warcraft movie :)

are you thinking of the Dungeon Siege movie: In the name of the king....that's about to come out in a week or two?

hadn't heard about a WoW movie yet. you'd be surprised though...there are a lot of Warcraft novels...they've developed the whole storyline pretty deeply at this point.

Also, I've heard from numerous sources now that Cloverfield is teh suck. over use of 'shakey cam' because the effects all suck for a major motion picture. the characters are all 1-dimensional to the point you have no concerns about who lives or dies.

had this been a student film for college, people were giving it a B+

as for the Matrix...I minor'd in philosophy. the Matrix is definitely full of philosophical ideas, interwoven with science fiction. The fact that it deals with concepts of 'what is humanity' and 'what is our existence' force it to be a philosophical movie...which is exactly why you can easily compare it to religion/religous movements.

I heard alot of people say this was pretty good. and alot of people say this was movie was ****

so 50/50

If you liked the blair witch movie, with a shaky camera and not a developed plot. This movie is for you.

Just looked it up, sounds like a good movie. Will check it out sometime, thanks.

I didn't really like it. The shaky camera wasn't that bad, it's really annoying for like ten minutes then you start to ignore it. But I just thought the movie was...I don't know, I guess poorly written is the best way to put it. There were things that they made a big deal out of that ended up just not mattering at all to the movie. I mean, it was creepy, and it held my interest. I guess I just don't like movies that are nothing more than the emotion they're meant to invoke.

Oh! And when the Statue of Liberty's head is in the street...yeah there is no WAY it's that small. I mean, people go up in the hat!

Sounds like they should've spend more money making a better movie and less on the nonstop advertising. I haven't seen it, but I'm pretty sure I want all the characters to die.

Is it better then I Am Legend at least? Cant believe I wasted money to see that.
