Chris's diary

MIght be time to up the intensity of my cardio a bit. Did my full hour as usual, same intensity as usual but, found it almost too easy. I mean, sure I broke a sweat and my heart rate was up but, I didn't really feel like I'd pushed myself. Maybe I'll introduce some HIIT although I've never been much of a fan.

I enjoyed yesterdays workout. Deadlifts were good, upped the weight by 10kg and had no problems with grip. I'm suffering a serious imbalance between the strength in my left and right biceps so, i'm going to do some barbell excercises for a couple of weeks instead of dumbells to see if I can balance things out a bit.

Skipped fasted cardio this morning, first time this year! Felt guilty so did an extra 20mins in the gym tonight.

Was going to start swimming but, the pool was closed and will be for a few days apparently - just my luck.

Cutting out evening carbs next week (apart from veggies of course :) )

Did a full 45mins this morning before breakfast and the last 15 mins were at a slightly higher intensity than usual. I must admit, I felt pretty good and could have continued for a while if I hadn't had to get to work.

Legs and shoulders later and I'm hoping to increase squat weight a bit. Won't have time for any cardio as I have people coming to stay for the weekend.

All in all, feeling very focussed and enthusiastic. I don't plan on taking another BF% reading for a month or so as I would like to let the mirror do the talking :)

Been a few days since I've updated this. 2 weights workouts since then on Saturday and Monday. Very pleased with both of them - weights seem to be going up and up and, I'm now back on the creatine so, things can only improve :)

Been doing plenty of cardio as usual. No fasted cardio on Sunday but, other than that, been doing it every day. Did 45mins on Saturday.

Its not often I enjoy cardio as much as I did today. 30mins on the stepper and then 40mins hill intervals on the X-trainer. Really pushed it on the intervals and was ready to drop at the end but, in a good way.

Feeling good today- looking forward to back and biceps tomorrow.

Yesterdays workout wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Gym was just way too busy - had to wait for pretty much every station, plate or dumbell and just couldn't get any momentum going. Cardio was okay but, my heart wasn't really in it by then.

Did my 30mins fasted this morning. Having a break from cardio at the gym tonight but, may do 25mins HIIT at home instead (including warmup & cooldown, obviously ;) )

2 weeks hard training and I've made practically no progress!! I know that nutrition is the culprit. As I suspected I am below a healthy deficit and this has stopped me from dropping any fat.

Very frustrated by this tbh so, I've worked it all out and will be adding another meal and eating every 2 hrs rather than 3 to fit it in.

On the upside, I get to eat more often and eating is one of my favourite passtimes :)

Hi chris.
dont beat yourself up for not shedding any bf,u are 15.4% ,and its hard to lose fats when u are so close to your goal ,or what your body thinks is neccessary for survival,u already know that:)
u are doing great hansome..just keep going:)

Hey miss_christi, hey Sadie. Thank you both for taking the time to post, its during these little slips we all need a few words of encouragement :)

I know I'll get there, its my own fault really. I just assumed that I would be making progress at the same rate as I did last year without bothering to work out all my macros. I truly hate counting calories and whatnot but, I know thats what I have to do to get to where I want to be.

Did my 30mins fasted this morning but, struggled as I think I may have a cold coming. Been having some issues with the ex too so, my mind has been elsewhere!

Gym was good today, legs and shoulders. Felt pretty strong and my grip issues are completely gone. Was doing shrugs with 40kg dumbells and, while it was an effort to keep hold of them for the entire set, I never felt in danger of dropping them. All progress can only be a good thing :D

Question is fasted cardio the only cardio you are doing right now?

No. I'm doing the fasted cardio maybe 5 days a week and I usually do about 30mins aftyer each weights session. Then twice a week I'll do 60min cardio sessions. Now and then I'll do HIIT but, probably not as often as I should be doing. If I count rest days aswell, I am probably averaging about an hour a day.

enjoyed yesterdays workout. Managed to increase weights on the first 2 sets of bench press. First time in a long time I've managed it and I've got good pains acorss my pecs today :) Felt pretty strong overall which will hopefully spill over to back and biceps tomorrow. Deadlifts and cable curls are currently the 2 excercises I'm not doing well at.

In a couple of weeks, if improvements continue, I'm going to try adding in an initial set of 12 for most excercises on a slightly lower weight to fatigue the muscles a bit before hitting them hard - see if I can't shock the system a little bit.

Due for a full workout change in about a month or so.

Fasted cardio today and yesterday as usual. Did no excercise at all on Sunday. Going to do a 60min cardio session this afternoon but, take this evening off.

Went to do cardio yesterday afternoon and, felt a bit weird. Strange as I'd fuelled up about an hour before I went down but, had to quit after 40mins as I felt like I might pass out!

No fasted cardio today.

Feeling a bit low today actually (emotionally rather than physically) so, may not go to the gym later either. I need to be in the right mindset or, I simply won't enjoy myself.

Didn't go to the gym and didn't do any fasted cardio this morning either. But, I'm feeling a lot more positive today. Much more like my old self. I refuse to let all the hard work I've done over the last month go to waste so, back to the gym tonight - back and biceps.

I have hopefully reached creatine saturation by now and so I'm hoping for a good session.

Not a bad workout last night. Was very disapointed with deadlifts - I'm sure that my technique is awful and I was really aching in my lower back after the first set. I think I either need an alternative or I need to learn proper form. Other than that, I felt pretty strong. Increased a few weights too.

Did my fasted cardio again this morning.

calories yesterday: 2194

Legs and shoulders yesterday went very well - again, I felt pretty strong. Dropped weights slightly on squats for the first 2 sets to concentrate on form. It was a good plan as I definitely managed to get the squat in deeper and, the 3rd set was back up to normal weight. Will try the same as with deadlifts next week. Personal best on arnie presses :) and, I also tried a few reverse flyes (v low weight). Anyone following this diary for some time will know I had shoulder issues last year and had to discontinue this excercise. Hopefully, I can now re-implement it.

Fasted cardio again this morning.

yesterdays calories: 2073. Bit less than I'd hoped but, enough not to 'starve'. No chance of too few calories today, I'm going to my Mum's for dinner ;)

Forgot to mention - bf% was at 15% this morning so, it looks like the extra calories have sufficiently stoked the fire :D

Going to start swimming next week to add a little variety and hopefully speed things up a little.

Well, I was pretty much overcome by lethargy at the weekend and, I was away from home so, had no opportunity to do any excercise. I did 30mins HIIT yesterday (including 5 mins warmup & 5 mins cooldown) and 30mins fasted steady-state this morning. Can't go to the gym tonight either as I'm being taken out for dinner.

Chest & tris tomorrow night, 2 days overdue but, will switch things around so I only need to use the squat rack when the gym is quiet (thats the theory anyway)

Didn't make it to the gym until yesterday in the end but, considering it had been 9 days since my last chest and triceps day, I felt surprisingly strong and even increased some weights! I skipped cardio afterwards as I'm going to test the theory of not mixing weights and cardio in the same session. I will still be doing fasted cardio 5-6 times a week but, my overall cardio will be reduced by 90mins. To compensate for this, I'm going to start swimming after my cardio sessiosn (starting tonight)
