I'd like to suggest perhaps that no more than two challenges be run at any given time... i think there are 6 currently running and it's overwhelming to look at... and particpate in..

perhaps maybe a challenge could be started every 2 weeks for those who might have joined the forum after the challenge began.

I'd also suggest a minimum number lf posts before aperson can join a challenge as there seems to be a very high drop out rate of people with a handful of posts joining then leaving.

If you want to join a challenge-- commit to the entire length of the challenge.. or don't join.

i think that is a good idea, Mal. However, I think we should let u decide what challenges are going at one time. I kno i dropped out of the halloween challenge :( but lots were goin on here. But ANWAYS umm, so, yea, are we gonna do the November challenge? And if so, what will it be? any suggestions? Oh, i just remembered, if only 2 challenges are goin at one time, then there is already one for Christmas "Under The Christmas Tree" or somethin like that, and i dont know if another is goin on, but if there is, I guess that would count this challenge out? Im confused, lol. lemme kno, thanks~!

I do agree that we all need to calm down on the challenges. It gets to the point where they are no fun anymore b/c there is always a few going on. Once the first challenge was "created" we'd only have one every other month or something, and it was real exciting when we'd have one..but now w/ so many all the time, its just not the same.

BUt i dont' think we should have one person to say if we are allowed to have a challenge or not. I think that might cause problems...but like i said, we all do need to calm down about it.

yea newbride, i see where that could cause a BIG problem....and yea, when I first a challenge it was awesome, then I got way too caught up, I think people just want more because they help keep them motivated if they lose motivation in another one?maybe? I dunno~

also Mal, is there anyway the old challenges, like September 10 lb challenge and such could be deleted? it may help clean out some of the confusion.
again, just a suggestion, if u dont think it would be a good idea, thats cool too:)

we can close them-- to prevent new posts from being added to them... or perhaps like we had the challenges forum created, we could have an archived challenges forum created so that they could be read.. because there are some interesting ideas in them - so i'd hate to see them deleted...

oh ok. well, hey by the way, I deleted one of my old diaries, and I have a new one if yall wanna check it out, its titled

"Starting Over....AGAIN.*Emily's Diary*

Hope to see yall there!! :)

I agree their are a lot of challenges going on, but if ya just join one it anin't so bad and you can choose the one ya like..........but i can see the point you all have too, keeping it to one or two at a time may be better:confused: :p

Ok so when I was addicted to a Harry Potter site I was in charge of the Contest Approval Committee. Basically any person that wanted to start a contest had to get permission first. They would submit a form that gave the title, the rules etc.... and then someone from the CAC would approve the contest or not. Maybe we can have a Challenge Approval Committee, this way the number of challenges could be tamed down (a lot!) and they would still have a special significance because there aren't a zillion of them.

Sample form:

Challenge Name:
Duration:
Goal:
Detailed Description:

I don't know...all I do know is that there are too many challenges going on. :)

OH! and the most important thing was the person who wanted to start a challenge had to have over 200 posts. (this way we knew they were serious about it.)

I think my biggest frustration with challenges... is the amount of challengers that don't finish the challenge...

Whomever has setup the challenge.. has put forth some time and effort into it.. and they get lots of people joining because it seems like a good idea... then ... as the challenge procedes.. people get bored, distracted, real life gets int he way, they leave.. but they don't finish the challenge...

I'd love to see a challenge where everyone who said they wanted to play... actually finished the game... Or I'd love to hear the reasons why they dropped out...

The challenges are supposed to be fun.. and keep a person motivated... so I think i'd like to ask the question to the members here..
What makes a challenge fun?
What would keep you in the challenge?
What's the ideal length of a challenge?
Etc

Though I do like Kaitie's idea...

What makes a challenge fun?
I like the challenges because it makes me feel like I'm not alone in this struggle. I can turn to my team-mates and find strength when I feel like a blob. I can be motivated by their joy and success. (ok enough sappy crap)

What would keep you in the challenge?
The people keep me in the challenge...M2M has been a super motivator for the Vamps and really checks in to make sure we're all trying our hardest. I also liked the variety of the Halloween Challenge, it wasn't just about losing weight. I liked the 6 week challenge b/c dari and I had a fun little bet going on--who ever lost 2 pounds first, the other person had to post a picture of themselves...fun as heck and really kept me from shoving food down my throat.

What's the ideal length of a challenge?
Hmm....I do think that some of the challenges are really long. By the 4th week of the 6 week challenge I was pooped, and I'm ready for the Halloween Challenge to be over--there not bad, just a long time to keep up with posting. I liked the Lindsay Lohan Challenge, it was 2 weeks. I'm afraid the Under the Xmas Tree one might be too long but I see it as a club not a challenge. Maybe we need to define challenge and club. Challenge = competitors going againt one another and a club = a group of people trying to obtain a certain goal by a certain date. I don't know.

I enjoy the challenges and clubs in moderation. I was hoping for a Thanksgiving challenge though, maybe something to do with posting funny pictures like the one dari and I did...that was fun.

I'm rambling. Thanks for all your hard work! And hey, how do you become a moderator?

What makes a challenge fun?

I love a good challenge! It brings out the competative spirit in me :D

What would keep you in the challenge?

Again, support is a must, I really like challenges where a prize of some sort is awarded...ex..postcards or some banner to post in your sig.

What's the ideal length of a challenge?

For me, 2-4 wks is great, I've found I really do get "worn out" or loose focus after a few weeks (maybe thats my problem to work on, but hey, i'm answering the question!) lol!!

I agree, a challenge should include a prize for the winners and/or a penalty for the losers. It just makes things more interesting.

What makes a challenge fun?

For me the competitiveness of it is fun in and of itself...but most importantly the enthusiasm and consistency of the other team members. Being able to come into the thread and see that more than two people are there encouraging and cheering people on and participating.

What would keep you in the challenge?

I don't neccessarily need a prize, because I gotta tell you seeing the scale go down is prize enough. What I REALLY like is the mini challenges within the overall challenge like in the Halloween Challenge. It kept me motivated. On the other challenge I was in, I got disappointed and didn't report in consistenty because I wasn't loosing every week and I felt bad...even though I was really trying to loose. Having more than one thing to strive for has kept me in this challenge. It's more in line with what my goal is, to be healthier not just about my scale number.

What's the ideal length of a challenge?

I'd say 4-5 weeks. I typically never see results in the first week, so for me if it ended in two weeks my results would suck...and maybe pull the team down and I don't want to do that so I just wouldn't join that one.

<~~I think there should be a reward for the winners, but not a penalty for the losers, b/c halfway through the challenge, everybody would drop out if they were losing, b/c of the penalty, or they would just lie...

what kind of rewards would you lke to see - remember that there is no budget for this forum :D

The halloween challenge the "reward" there is that the winning team gets postcards sent to them by the less winning team...

we tried that in a previous challenge and got little cooperation so i'm hoping this time will be better.

but what kinds of prizes would you propose?

yea, i agree, a penalty would definately discourage players...

I really enjoyed getting postcards from earlier challenges...we'd each mail a postcard from the state we lived in. But I understand that money can be tight, esp. with christmas comming up. I think it would be neat to have a challenge where everyone mails the biggest winner a dollar, that way he/she could get a nice top or something.

Also, I think its a good idea to get some kind of challenge board. what i mean is maybe a mod or two and a member or two can decide what challenges to "allow" or ask it to be held off till X date..you know? that way is less of a 1 sided street.

I really do like that idea...
