Cate's Diary

BF this morning was 1 multi-grain toast with homemade hommus & fresh tomato & another with 1/4 of an avocado, a little mayo & rhubarb chutney. Drinking straight black espresso coffee at the moment.
Sounds so delicious!!
Yes wonderful to be in agreement about not ready for a move quite yet. I'm sure you two will know when (or if ever) the time is right.

Thanks, Liza & Llama ( & Bunny, Floater & Tru) :grouphug:
It really does feel like Spring is just around the corner. It's time to really think about wearing layers that can be removed & still leave me feeling that I look OK. We do feel relieved that we have decided to put a hold on thinking about moving. We were trying to talk ourselves into it, but it was causing stress.
We visited G's sister, L & we both love her new place. We agreed that we could happily live in it. It has wonderful outside fenced areas, under shelter & great little nooks & crannies. The house/unit is well planned with the main bedroom on one side of the living area & the spare bedrooms & 2nd bathroom on the other side. I love it.
L looked horrified when we said that we were going to stop looking for a place in town. She looked at me in shock & said what if I am left on my own & have to do everything myself? Her husband died last year & she has had so much stress. Having to sell up their large house as well was very stressful & still is. I know she's right, but we're not ready. Both his sisters & his brother's wife think we should downsize & move in near them.
Coming home from town is always lovely. I will cope much better with living here when I buy myself a small car & can scoot around easier. I had a great sleep last night.
We has sushi for lunch yesterday & chicken & veg for dinner. No wine.
BF this morning was 2 slices of multigrain, gf toast with some good quality leg ham, hot mustard & 2 eggs.

Food sounds delicious again! Maybe having one more person you know adapting happily to town living will help you guys the next time the topic comes up but I hope it won't be for the next couple of years.

Lunch was especially delicious, Llama. We had braised Italian-style(in a tomato sauce with lots of flavour) lamb chops(the last of our own) with baked potato, pumpkin, mushroom & parsnips, some steamed kale, Brussel sprouts, broccoli & cauliflower. It was so good 😋
Spring has definitely sprung. There are birds everywhere & I have the urge to garden.
Took Arch for 2 walks (1 longish one this morning). Chatted to the neighbour way up the end. I think we'll have Xmas drinks this year & invite most of the street. I'll drop in invites close to the time & stress the fragrance-free. They can BYO drinks & we will provide nibblies. I won't ask everyone on the street, but I will ask most of them. I think about doing it every year, but this year I will. I'll make it about 2 pm so lunch won't be expected.
Having a bubbly right now.
Dinner I think will just be crackers, cheese, hommus, snow peas, celery etc.

That sounds so nice! We are slowly creeping into fall which I am ready for...all the change of seasons always so lovely!

Sounds super nice. One of my favorite Christmas songs that I heard for the first time last year is an Australian guy Tim Minchin, with White Wine in the Sun...so different than my idea of christmas where it's all hot chocolates and sledding and things!

Sounds like a lovely neighborhood Christmas idea!
I think so, Llama. I just have to not chicken out.

I really love the change in seasons too. We have distinct ones here.

Tim Minchin is wonderfully crazy. We still have winter decorations with snowmen etc & usually a hot Christmas lunch, but It's usually a very hot day. I have only started looking forward to Christmas again the last few years. I'm not sure why that is, but I'm busting to get out our tree & start decorating!

My laptop's battery is dying so I'll come back later xoxo

I think regarding the house move - it will happen when it's meant to happen. Don't feel forced into it yet. Do things in your own time. Everyone has opinions left, right and centre about what 'must be done'. It's your life. You only get one.

Whenever we get so much pressure I feel a bit stressed I must admit. I know they mean well. We’re just not ready yet.

My mom just heard that one of her sisters has bought a smaller house in a larger town and it's really shaken her. Everyone is on their own schedule and you don't have to conform just because it's more comfortable to the others.

That's true, Llama. It's hard not to get sucked into the logic of it though, but moving before you're ready to would most likely be a cause of major regret.
G played golf again yesterday at the local club & quite a few people asked after me, including some from another club. One of my favourite golfing women, K actually played in G's group, along with a lovely couple from another club who we have played with before. The women never used to play on Saturdays. I still don't feel the urge to go back & play with the women. I am going to play with our social group in September as the game is at our local club. I'll see how I go. It will be my first game for 2 years. If I love it I'll start playing again. I'll have to leave Archie home in the house.

I did fairly well yesterday with my food with G being gone for most of the day again. It was a dreary, mizzly day, but I got one walk in at 4.15 pm. I had some cashews in the afternoon while I was ironing as I was actually hungry. My protein was still way under what it should be. I just had a look at my protein report for the last 30 days & I did not reach it once. Food for thought (pun intended). Maybe I'll get a referral to see a nutritionist when I see my GP next week.

I did some gardening yesterday until the rain drove me back inside. I'm going to get out & finish what I was doing then. I moved all of the strawberries into a different bed & I'm going to empty a raised bed & move it. A blue-tongued lizard got into the bed last summer & I reckon it climbed up the fence & got in that way. It was too close to the fence. I also rearranged all the stuff on our decking & it looks a lot tidier. I now have a potting corner, rather than everything being visible from our kitchen window.

At this point I no longer feel like you'd get sucked into club drama so I hope you love the golf and your knee is ok with it as well!

Your gardening sounds lovely and you'll get such big strawberries the season after moving them.

You’re right, Llama. There is no way known I would get sucked into any club drama. I hope my knee holds up too 🤞

I did a little more today. I want to try building a fine mesh cage over the top of the strawberries.
I’m a bit tired this afternoon & just had a nap 😴

I had some more energy after the nap & moved a raised garden bed. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I have refilled it with the beautiful rich soil that was in it & will think about what I put in there.
I just took Arch for his second walk of the day & am having a sparkling burgundy with G. What a lovely day. Spring! 🌼☀️😍

HI Cate! So glad you and G decided to stay at your place and make it more easily maintainable. I agree with everyone about you knowing when it will be time to think about moving. Your gardening projects sound lovely. We are going to make chicken-wire cloches to protect some plants, too - too many deer here. I really really love your plan for losing a kilo a month. I just gained again, and will join you in doing that. It's so hard with the post-menopausal slowing down of the metabolism - it was so, so much easier to lose weight before that happened!

Loving the sound of the coming spring and all the garden work!

I will have to google that guy. Does he ruin gardens? You have so many interesting creatures to work around there! My biggest on-going creature concern is the cats lol. (in my on-going attempt to keep the neighborhood cats out of my food sections!)

Thanks, Marsia. I will appease my SIL a little by getting some things organised soon, like a new will, power of enduring attorney etc so I'm better prepared for the future & if she continues to nag me about moving I will ask her to ease off. It unsettles me.
I'm going to "officially" start on the 1 kg a month plan on the 1st of Sept.

I just adore Spring. I might buy some seed potting mix today & try growing more things from seed, rather than seedlings.
Blue-tongued lizards love strawberries. They are very cute.

BF this morning was 2 slices of multi-grain toast with some tuna in olive oil, 1 boiled egg & 1/4 avo.
We're heading to the tip today so will walk Arch in town. I didn't get a great night's sleep last night after the afternoon nap so feel a tad out of sorts. I'll be ok later I'm sure. I'm going to make September a really good decluttering month, including some of my fat. Yay for Spring!
