Calling everyone from the UK

Welcome to all the UK newcomers to the forum.

I am Margaret and I am originally from Newcastle upon Tyne. I have lived over twenty years fairly near Heathrow.

Hi, I'm Amy and I'm following the slimming world plan alongside working in the gym and have lost 1st 9.5lb so far :)

Hi Amy - well done on your weight loss so far. Exercise certainly really helps us to lose weight.

I joined Slimming World when I had already lost quite a lot of weight - but was a member for the final year of losing weight. I like their food plan (Extra Easy overlays directly on what I was already doing) and they are very supportive.

I am a target member now. My leader presented my with the awards covering my entire weight loss when I got to target.

My avatar is my SW book with the award stickers on from 5 stone to 12 stone and target... The other side of the book has my other awards on...

hi everyone!
I'm not technically in the uk, i'm in ireland, but this is the closest and most things are the same!

i'm 23 and have 7stone to lose to get to my healthy weight of 12 stone! doing it with a combination of weight watchers, resistance weights and cardio.

Just joined up - i'm up in Scotland. aiming to lose about two stone, following ww on my own and doing cardio and weights at the gym.

Welcome Josha, Bonnie, Maursie and Brandnewme.

WW has a good program too. I think that I preferred their old "core" plan to their current "discover" plan which is basically a rebranding of their old "points" plan.

I am in shock because I have heard that they are going to stop doing their butterscotch and rhubarb and custard sweets in the near future. I adore their butterscotch sweets...

Good luck to everyone in their projects.

Hey, im from the uk too, sort of inbetween london and cambridge. Also on weight watchers, overweight to the point i havent acctually sorted my target weight yet, i just thought starting was the main issue :p

Hi i'm new to this, i'm sorry if i make a few mistakes. :) Has anyone got any motivation tips? xx

Believe that whatever you are trying to do is actually possible. I cannot tell you how often I googled the name "Charlie Walduck" after he was on the This Morning tv show in order to look at his before / after pictures. Looking at that always made me believe that something that I had grown to think of as impossible - was actually possible.

Lots and lots of milestones. You want a fresh milestone every few pounds.

Know your weight in pounds - also stones/pounds.
Set up in your mind milestones:
- weight at every half stone boundary
- weight at every 10 pound boundary
- every time you lose a multiple of half a stone or 10 pounds
- every BMI boundary (5 units) that you notch through
- under 30 I think that I celebrated every single unit of BMI
- every clothes size change
- anything else that means something special - be it big or little.

enormous milestones for me (going from 21 stone to 9 stone) were
- under 20 stone (becoming a teen girl!!!)
- under 14 stone (lost a third of my start weight)
- under 13 stone (stopping being a teen girl)
- BMI under 30 (becoming overweight)
- under 10.5 stone (lost a half of my start weight)
- BMI under 25 (becoming normal)
- being able to wear my wedding ring for the first time in 22 years.
- getting to goal

I swear I had so many milestones and so many forum friends giving me support that my diary turned into one long forum party as I seemed to hit milestone after milestone every few pounds. Most people do not set nearly enough milestone. The celebration carries you forward to the next milestone...

Well done for starting out. Very few people know what their final target should be if they have a fair bit to lose. In my opinion start off trying to get to the next milestone and worry about whatever lies under BMI 30 when you get there. Then start to think whether you should be shooting for BMI 25 and see where that takes you.

I know that Weight Watchers like people to be aiming for BMI of 25 or under. Slimming World allow you to set your target where-ever you like. Both encourage people to shoot for a loss of 10% of their start weight to be going on with...

Depending on your age people can be left with a fair amount of loose skin after any large weight loss. I carry a fair bit of loose skin so it means that I am thinner than I was when I was this weight on the way up...

Also people here tend to do a fair bit of exercise. This can mean that people are more toned than they were on the way up. This can mean that their clothes fiit better than the last time they were the same weight.

This all means that a lot of people have difficulty being sure what they will look like at any given low weight - so have to keep a level of flexability. The main thing is to become fitter and healthier than we were.

Hi all
I just joined today. My paln is Herbalife and I have been following this plan since 2nd week in July this year.

Quick hello

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new, but have posted a few times in the surgical section, as I had a gastric balloon fitted approx 6 weeks ago - losing quite good weight, but have felt pretty rough at times (slowly improving, I think!).

Anyway, just thought I'd drop by here, as I'm from the UK (originally from Yorkshire, but now living in Scotland - and I have relatives all over the UK!)

I know most people on here are using more traditional weight loss methods (not surgical) but if anyone ever wants to chat, I'd be happy to chat back!

Best wishes to you all on your weight loss journeys! :waving:
