bluehats diary

went to an in person medical appt. today
for one of my health conditions
and i broached the subject of foods
to eat while my mouth heals
i was horrified to hear the suggestions
there was no limit to the sugar foods
for a DIABETIC person
i will be ignoring that part

they did my weight
i didnt look as it mainly freaks me out

it was suggested to eat every 4 hours
which i know i cant do for a few reasons
1 is cost
2 is it will put my weight horribly up

another shocker for me
was the suggestion to use diabetic boosts
these are 190 calories
x 3 a day???
i can only surmise that i wasnt being heard
or the person didnt know they were so low
in calories

they were really nice though

i dont do well with a food plan
as readers can see
ive said i will do this plan or that plan
but never stick to any
and id quit with the idea
if i ever did not feel hungry
so it seems i need some sort
of outside plan not one that
relies on inside
such as hunger or fullness

i just cant find THE plan
that i can live with

when i lived alone i only brought food in to eat
that i absolutely needed
now with limited shopping trips
i have to bring in foods to last
til next shopping day
and all that food stares at me
screams at me
and it does not help that i have to balance it
with insulin and weight
that feeds into the food obseesion

is this my whole life?
looking and never finding a plan i can do
im sooo tired
it makes me tired

I know the feeling (or at least a pale reflection of it as my situation is so much easier than yours). Sometimes it seems like there's nothing I can do to make it work and it's so frustrating! But if I'm consistent long enough... things are at least better than when I'm not. Medical experts not being able to adapt their advice to my needs (mostly allergies) is also discouraging. It sucks but in the end we all have to find our own way.

one thing i found helpful (?)
in sticking to a plan
is that if i decide there is not going to be
any variations not one
not even 1 tiny one
because sometimes i end up
saying o i wrecked that i guess
that doesnt work
i cant stick to a thing
so say i decided it would be
1200 calories a day or 2 cans of something or whatever
i couldnt vary from that
meaning not 1300 one day 1200 the next 1400 another day
it would be strictly 1200 every single time
or whatever plan
i dont know if i explained that well
it would have to be sort of to an
obssession on exactly what i decided
because i end up giving in too much off the plans

Makes sense to me, I struggle with this too. Either I stick to a plan (but no one can do that indefinitely), or I shrug it off and go chaotic for a while. It really isn't easy and I'm so sorry that your health situations require you to think so thoroughly about everything you eat. And also that the doctor didn't take your situation truly into account. I swear some doctors treat people like car mechanics treat cars, twist this and everything should go vroom.

:grouphug:

I agree that all or nothing can often feel easier than moderation. Little exceptions become big ones and before I know it I'm halfway through a bucket of icecream.

i tried my very first poutine on the 1st
it was a pulled pork one
i managed it well on my gums
except for the few harder chips
but not too bad
it has to be a treat food as it was very dear in cost
but was nice to have something
other than soups
:)

today i put a peameal roast in the crockpot
im hoping by cooking it til tomorrow
afternoon it can be soft enuf
and the pulled pork didnt bother me
so maybe this wont either
we were able to get the peameal at only 2.99 a pound

today was a can of chicken with rice soup
a tim hortons one
that walmart sells here for
4/10
not bad considering most other soup prices
go over 4 bucks a can

4 dollars for a can of soup? That's daylight robbery. Glad you got to have treat and enjoyed it without too much gum trouble! Is peameal just ground up split peas?

the peameal that we have sold where i am is
cured ham
with a cornmeal topping
so why its called peameal i dont know

back from a horrendous family visit
so now trying to recover from the events i saw
and that happened to me

sunday food 1 cup of canned beefaroni

monday food i cant remember
trama night

tuesday food shredded cheese

todays food carrot soup

sooo
looking at ways to save money
of course
arent we all?
since soups gone up so much
thinking of switching to canned veggies
they all run less than 2$ a can at supermarkets
but not at our dollar stores
the can size is 398ml which is a bit more than 1 cup if
u consider 250ml to be a cup
less calories less salt less sugar
no other junk added
just need to find some sort of protein
to go with it

been too scared to see if im keeping that weight off
i usually dont so i think its safe to assume
its back

i used to wonder why so many poor people were overweight
now i know y
i live it everyday
its when u have to choose very high calorie cheap junk food
over healthier costlier foods

Needing transportation to get to the nearest grocery store is such a limiting factor, too, if you don't drive. I pass by several stores on my way to work and back and probably top up my fresh fruit/veggie stores every other day. I can't imagine having to rely on shelf stable foods for the most part. And having several stores within walking distance means I can pick special offers from all of them and can buy my staples in whichever store happens to have better deals on each specific item. Not having that option would probably cost me an extra 10+€ a week.

Does your nearest supermarket have a regular discount on ground turkey or beef, Blue? I can't remember if you have a freezer. I think it's sad that junk food is so cheap. Is there a local food bank?

yes we recently managed to get a nice inexpensive used small freezer
its great
sometimes the nearest store will have reduced sausages for sale
i havent figured out how to eat them yet
its the only meat thats been reduced in price there tho

i had a family member talk to the food bank and ask if they could
just give me soups as i have no teeth
they responded positvely but a few days ago when i used it after many months
of not
i only got 2 small cans of soup so the rest went to my family
or in the garbage as alot of food given is old and moudy
so its kind of useless for me to take the food
i guess to use the food bank you must have money
i say this because if i could pay for false teeth i could eat the food bank stuff
