Cohen's Lifestyle BIGjim's (Soon to be SLIMjim's) Diary!

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Well i got my blood test results today and it seems ok... The doctor was ok with it and i didnt need to see him i just picked it up from reception. It does say there is 1 unexpected result to do with my red blood cells.... but i dont really know what the jargon means on the results! Any way i have sent them now and so i should get my diet in the next week!! WOOP WOOP!!

I have decided to cancel a few social things i had planned! I have a few dates where i was due to go out, but i am going to cancel!! I think until i have been on the diet a while and am ok with how every thing works then i will go out but until then i think its best not to tempt myself, or get in a situation where i cant eat my diet food!!! But this isnt for ever and well worth it!!

Very excited now!
Jim

Hello All,
The last few days i have been drinking my 2 - 3 lts of water every day and have been enjoying it! I have always really liked water but i never drink enough of it. I have only been doing this about 5 days so far and already i feel like its 2nd nature. I am constantly going for the bottle... of water that is!! Its like i have turned my a switch on that now tells me when i need a drink! I am feeling thirsty more than normal! Which is good as it should make it easier for me getting it all down!

I have also been thinking alot about what life will be like skinny, and i just cant wait! Waiting for my diet to come through is agony! I am probably the most impatient person i know! I just cant wait for any thing and this is no exception.

I hope to get the plan by next week end so i can go get all my foods and bags, so i can make a start next monday! I'm slightly anxious as well, hoping that i dont fail and that i can get down to my goal weight by this time next year! GOD i hope so!!!

This is really a lot of rambling as i dont have too much to say but just felt i should update my diary!! I am addicted to this site and cant wait to start adjusting my ticker and recording my daily highs and lows!!
You will all be sick of me 3 months in....lol

Hope your doing well on your diets or maintenance!!!
Jim

Hi Jim,

Just thought that you could do a pre-Cohen as you wait for your programme to arrive. You might want to set your body 'ready' for it.

1) Start by cutting down sugar and carbo intake as much as you can - reduces the horrible detoxification effects that happens to some.
2) Drink more water - which you've started...that's good.
3) Switch to white meat and cut back on red meat.
4) Cut down your food portions.

Hopefully this will help you - some have actually started to lose weight by doing a pre-Cohen programme :) All the BEST.

Oh btw, PATIENCE is one HUGE value you need to have on this programme. ;)

Hey FlaMie
Thanks for the tips!
I think it would be good if i make a start now! Cutting out sugar and carbs i will start today! Meal size would be good as well, but one step at a time...lol... I think i might even start trying some of the recipes that are posted her.. Try a few Cohen meals! I wont worry too much about the amount till i get the diet but i wont do big meals!!

Unfortunately the patients is some thing i need to work on, i just dont have any! lol.
Especially when i am looking forward to some thing! Although i am not looking forward to the "Diet" its self its more the effects of the diet and your right i can start that now! !

Thanks for stopping by!!
Jim

Hi Jim, You will learn patience as you see the results. Sometimes I think the longer the journey takes the more you learn along the way and the more likely it will be that the lessons learned will be life-long lessons. It's fun to see how excited you are about starting. I was similar. I could also talk about very little else when the weight started to melt off me. Don't suppress it or keep it to yourself. Excitement is to be shared. It is also very infectious. You will love this & we will love reading all about it. I can't imagine getting sick of reading your posts. It will also be good for you to be able to go back & see how you felt at different stages. That's another reason to put your feelings down. It may be hard at the time but will help you in the long run & it also helps you to articulate & clarify your feelings. Anyhow..that's enough from me. Soon you'll have that program & may have some questions. Mostly if it's not in the program, you can't have it. It's fairly black & white but don't be afraid to ask anything! Cheers, Cate.

Thanks Cate.

Well believe it or not i have the diet now! I got it this morning after only sending the blood test late of friday!!! Must not be too busy! I doubt that Dr Cohen looks at EVERY SINGLE blood work. There is more than likely some computer that looks at the results and prints the diet out!! Which is no different than him doing it him self except its probably faster!!

I was a bit disappointed on how few meal choices i have in each section. 2 of the meals are the same except one has more chicken and one has more veg!! But i am still very excited about starting! So it looks like day one for me will be Friday!!!! Really looking forward to it now..... I am sure i will have questions but first i will be reading the plan over and over!!!

Can i post a copy of my plan on here or is that not allowed???

Hi Jim, That's great that you have your plan! It is covered by copyright so you can't post it I'm afraid. I'm really tired tonight so will catch up properly tomorrow. Cheers, Cate

It's great that you have your plan so soon Jim. I was also so excited to start. I feel like this is it! I can do this.

I want to say, get prepared, it makes it easier, but I feel like I have no right to be dispensing advice when I have only been on the plan for one week! But it really makes it easier when you have pre-weighed meat or chicken and already cut up veggies. Check out the pic of Cate's fridge! Inspirational!

Good luck! We are all in this together (I sound like High School Musical) but really we are here to support each other. It's great to have the facility available.

Sue

Thanks Cate........ I thought it might be a problem!!!

Sue, all the advice you have to give will be great!
You just completed your first week which i will be starting soon so any thing you have found out or discovered i would love to hear!!!

I cant wait to update my ticker with my first weeks weight loss!! Really excited!!

Jim

Fantastic!!!!

Wow Jim you got your program back SO fast! I know it's so exciting when your close to starting- it's like someone has given you the magic forumla to use to change your life FOREVER! I know when I started Cohen's I was really at my end in regards to diets and I could eat really well and excersise like crazy but loose nothing, so getting the program and following it was just SO easy. Even now after months and months on the program I am sitting here and thinking "Wow is that all that it takes to loose weight, this is just so easy". I think it has a lot to do with your thinking though but for me trying so many things and having no results was enough to keep me going on this program. I acctually cant wait to maintain my new weight and eat very similarly to what I am now as I just feel so good on the program. The only problem I have is that I feel weak when I move too much as I live in London catching the tube, walking to the shops (and carrying all those vegies and DC-Diet Coke home) is like a workout. Not many people have cars so busses and the tube are what I have to deal with on a daily basis (you probably already know that though as you like in the UK).

Just remember that this program is a real journey and it is just amazing how much you will learn about yourself and your thinking. To make this journey the best my advice would be to make food you really enjoy and WANT to eat. I was coming home from work and thinking about the yummy chilli, ginger beef stir-fry I was going to eat and how much I love it followed by my Honeydew Melon on crackers.... he he he I think it is vital to find your "stables" the meals you can enjoy on a daily basis. I would be really intereted to have a look at your plan if you dont mind sending me it through this forum as a Private message (I am sure you can attach files). As I have purchsed my program I dont see that there would be any copright violation and I promise not to show anyone else- being that you dont mind i I have a look? I just would like to see what they give you when you sign-up online and I can tell you the difference in the clinic program if you like? If your not comfortable in sharing just let me know and I am fine with that too, I am just curious :)

Anyway this has become a MEGA post lol (more like a diary entry) so I will stop taking up space in your diary and let you get back to sharing your thoughts :)

Take care Jim, and I am just SO excited for you starting the program this week! Remeber not to weight everyday as this will be very confusing and could even be demotivating if you loose 1 kg in a day and then nothing for a week. The best way to do it is to take a monthly average of your weightloss as your body looses weight in cycles.

:) nicole

Jim it's funny but I was going to suggest the same thing about pm'ing me your program but decided not to. I'm also happy to have a look & compare but I think yours will be quite different to mine just because you're male. One thing our meal plan does is force you to become creative with the limited choices. You may think that is too big of a challenge if, like me, you have never been much of a cook but you will soon learn how to make your meals interesting as well as healthy & that will be helpful throughout your life. I did not weigh for my first month. Getting on the scales after 4 weeks & seeing a 10kg loss was the greatest incentive ever to stick with Cohen's. Be very wary of weighing even once a week. You don't lose every single week & what might that do to your determination? Personally I don't think it's worth the risk. C'mon Friday Jim!!!
Cheers (with water of course!), Cate.
PS I bet you will have lost weight by Friday just because you have been subtly changing your diet & drinking extra water.

Good luck for Friday Jim. It's good to nominate a "start day" because you can psyche yourself into it, and know that when the day comes, you've thought everything through, know exactly what you are going to do, got rid of junk food around the house etc. Having a well stocked and organised fridge is one of the keys (yes, I did get to mine last night!).

Hey Nicole,
Thanks for your support! Its so helpful to be reading others on the diet and seeing what they do, and how they cope with things. Just reading your last post makes me want to do this even more!! I am looking forward to getting to the stage you are at where i have lost loads and really believe that i can do this, and so easily!!!

Cate, Thanks for the advice!! I think i will follow what you said and not weigh myself until the end of the first 4 weeks..... I dont own a set of scales yet and so i may hold off getting them until the end of the 4 weeks!! Not sure if i could not have a quick peek if they was in my bathroom!!! lol - I dont know how much i can expect to loose so i am trying not to think so it will be great when i finally see the results after 4 weeks!!

I will send you both a copy of my diet! I would love to see how different it is to your diets!!

Niyah - I thought best to have a "Start Date", like you said i can prepare for the big day this way!! I have already started to sort things out in the kitchen! I have to do a big shop on Thursday to be ready! I also have some beer i need to get rid off as well.... Think i may drink them tonight rather than throw them!! lol But apart from that its rather empty! I dont often have much food in any way as i dont often cook! Looks like that will be changing!!

I must say that i have been doing well with my water intake, at least 3ltrs a day at the moment! Getting a bit sick of it but also feeling more thirsty than normal! Think its my body realising when i am thirsty rather than being more thirsty!! If you get what i mean!
I have also joined the "official" 1PD forum and have been looking on there to see what info i can find, and in the "Before & After" section there is a guy who had more than me to loose and it had taken him 7 1/2 months!!!! I was gob smacked! I could not believe it and he looks good for it! I know that i need to loose soooo much and have never in the past felt this was possible! I have never been skinny!!! So its hard to imagine that i can be skinny after this diet!!! I just cant get my head around it!!! But i know i have to do this, and if others can do it then so can i!!!

Role on FRIDAY!!!!!!!

Jim

Hi Jim, I have replied to your pm. Check 'Your notifications', top right. Cheers, cate.

I did my big shop today already for my start tomorrow!!! I am very excited and nervous at the same time! I have made all my portions in to freezer bags and i am all ready to go!!
I just need to cook some chicken for my salad, and boil an egg for my breakfast and then i am done!!

Wish me luck! I will let you know how my first day goes!!

Jim

And they're off!!!!
Go Jim!!!
We're barracking for you.
Niyah's saying "Fail to plan & you plan to fail" is a good one!
You're planning will stand you in good stead. Always have your next meal planned so you are never caught out.
Cheers Cate.
PS Re the not having a meat meal 3 option, if you wanted to have meat one night then you could switch the order of your meals & have a meal 3 option for lunch & a meal 2 option at night. Just a thought.

Well Jim, it's Friday Oz time and you'll be starting in a few hours. You are going to wake up to the start of your new life. How fantastic! It's such a motivating thing knowing that you have the power in your hands to change your life for the better. You're all organised and that's great.

No matter what the next few days throw at you, just get through them. Your body will object big time, but having a plan and sticking to it is the key for the first week. After that, it all gets easier. If you feel rotten, get some rest, drink some water, and let time pass. Keep your mind busy, chill out, and once you're through the first week, you'll be into adjustment and coping phase. Once two weeks pass, you'll drop into "Cohen zone" where it all gets easier, you start feeling better, and you feel you can do anything!

Keep up a good multi vitamin - this is important.

Don't listen to all the multitudes of well-intentioned people who have better ideas about how you SHOULD be doing your life. I find it best to be just a bit mysterious with people who don't have a "gold pass" into my life. It's my business how I sort out my life! I have people who support me, and they are the ones I trust with information, and to comfort me, and that's what's important. And we'll all be on here too.

Have a great day. This journey will truly take you on a self discovery tour and introduce you to a new world of possibilities. I hope your journey is great!

Morning All,
Thanks for the support!!
So i have now started, i can finally say i am on the Cohens diet!! I have been looking forward to this for 2 weeks now!
I did SOOO much prep last night with weighing all my food and bagging it all up!
I weighed my self this morning, and i have lost 7lb in the last week so i have updated my ticker!!

Cate: I have taken your advice and will be having meal 3 chicken for lunch most days and having the meat in meal 2 for dinner! I can eat chicken cold at work but not meat! So i think this will be the way i work it! Thanks for the tips!!

Niyah: Thanks for your post! I am not going to let people tell me how i should be doing things.... If they was in my shoes then maybe they would change their mind!! My diet is a secret for now, as i dont need people to know. When people start to notice the weight going i will say i am dieting but i wont say how!!

Today is the birthday of a very good friend of mine. She has invited me to TGI Fridays for a birthday meal! I hate to not go as she is looking forward to me going! But i dont want her to know i am on a diet! So i am thinking i may say i have a bad stomach and can not eat, but will go and celebrate with her! I think i might feel silly sitting in a restaurant and not eating any thing! But i know if i do go there is no way i would i deviate! Its only day one, it would be rather pathetic if i cheated today! lol

Jim

Hey Jim

A HUGE BIG WELLDONE for starting the program. Starting is for sure the hardest part and seeing that your so motivated and focused is fantastic! You will need this motivation to get through the first week then you will be cruising :) Go Jim, Go Jim, Go Jim- I am singing a little song for you!

Good work will already loosing 7lbs before starting- what an effort! Now put your seatbelt on and get really for the first month.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Woooo hooooo
:) Nicole

Thanks Nicole & Cate

Well day one is over (almost)

For breakfast i had an egg with salad and a cracker! Was very strange having a salad for breakfast! I did struggle a bit as i normally dont have breakfast! Some days if i am at work i wont eat till 1 or 2pm.... But i did it and it was OK!

For lunch i had a chicken salad! I made a salad dressing with mayo and balsamic vinegar! It was nice! Small but nice!! lol

Then for my dinner i had onion, garlic, mushroom and beef! It was tasty and didn't take long to cook as it was all weighed out ready!!!

Had an apple for a snack!!

I have to admit i have found it hard not to eat until bursting point......... Normally i would eat until i am full... and then some!! So this is a bit of a shock!! But well worth it in the end!!!

Looking forward to day 2!!
Jim
