I am going to try to fit everyone in if at all possible. But I am going to give priority to those who've been around longer b/c they are far less likely to drop out as many newbies tend to do. So don't fret--even if I have to increase the teams to 13 people each, I am willing to do that.

There are currently 39 people signed up. I am happy to make 3 teams of 13 people. Two of the 39 have 1 and 5 posts respectively. So there is room for 2 people with more than 20 posts if they want to join. I'll draw teams in about 7 hours, so you've got until then to join. I'll be posting teams around 10pm EST (GMT -5hrs) tonight (Wednesday).

How do you go about choosing teams? Any thought to choosing teams by spreading weight equally? For example, a few light weights plus a few heavies plus a few in-betweens? I dunno, just a thought.

That's a great idea, because someone with a lot of weight to lose could typically expect to lose a lot more than someone nearing the end of their weight loss 'journey'!!

I know the teams were initially to be randomly chosen, but this sounds like a better plan!

Wooo, so excited...I'm off to pack my bag for the gym tomorrow! Is weigh in tomorrow or Friday?
Is anyone else anxious about stepping on the scales after the holiday season? :-/

I may be a newbie..but you won't have to worry about me dropping out...I live for contests!! I'm very competitive..so they are great motivation for me!

I'm so ready for this challenge to start. I really packed on the lbs over the holidays, yikes. The challenge will be a good means of getting me back on track.

Will you be giving us a heads up tomorrow on what the first week's bonus will be just in case we have to prepare for it in advance?

I'm not going to make teams with even weights because then you'd all have to post your weights before I could make teams--meaning I couldn't make teams until tomorrow at the very earliest. Besides, I've found that weight doesn't make that much differece in how much you're going to lose. I've seen people who started at 150lbs lose more weight than people starting at 200lbs+. There are plenty of ways to get points besides weight loss in this challenge. The bulk of the pts come from exercise and doing the bonuses.

The contest starts on Friday, so you need to weigh yourselves on Thursday or Friday and post that weight in your stats. Once I randomly form teams tonight, I'll start team threads and from there you'll see how to copy and paste the form for logging your stats.

That's cool Star, I'm not that competitive anyway. I just wanna stay in the challenge as long as possible because honestly the last one motivated me into exercising or counting calories or doing other "good" things many many times that I wouldve just blown off. I'm not very hopeful that my weight loss will help much but like you said, I can still get all my points elsewhere. I'm just glad there are a few fellow plateauers joining!

Not to disagree with my ace girl BB, but when you get within 10 lbs of your goal, see if end up losing steadily every week. Of course I hope you do but I'm here to say it becomes ever harder to shed that fat!

BB- I'm really sorry that I dropped out of the last challenge. I had some major complications in my life. I can't really explain, but I have time for this one. I swear. I've never dropped out of a challenge before. Forgive me.

Hey girl--life happens. Don't sweat it. I just wondered what happened to you b/c it was unlike you to go MIA. :)

Cita--in the last challenge some of the biggest losers lbs wise were under 200lbs. Yes, those with more to lose do have a slight advantage, but like I said, the vast majority of your pts come from exercise and bonuses. If you look at the spreadsheet from the last challenge, there really wasn't much difference in the week to week weight loss when you compared size. I will try to spread the men around though, as the last challenge had 3 of them on one team, while a few teams were all female. The men are usually heavier and tend to lose more lbs and more steadily. However, I think that only a few men have signed up. Also, as there are 13 people per team this time, they will probably be pretty even weight-wise.

All in all, it should be a pretty interesting challenge. I can't wait to see how the teams end up, and how the eliminating goes. :D

i dont even know if im in the challenge but just thought i'd ask anyway :)
are you going to do points based on percent of weight lost, i saw it was discussed in another thread but never knew what the outcome was ;)

As best as I can tell, it's a boy-girl thing. There's no correlation (r=-0.08) between sex and non-weight points in the last challenge. But there's a pretty big correlation (r=-0.30) between sex and total pounds lost, with men losing more points than women. Men were slightly more likely to have lost a higher percentage of their beginning body weight (r=-0.13).

Initial weight did matter, both to pounds lost (r=0.39) and to total points(r=0.21). I don't have the software handy to separate out the effects of higher initial start weight from the effects of sex. But I suspect that if you allocate the men more or less evenly, there's not a huge additional advantage to balancing weight as well.
