Question

I'm asking in general. I understand vegetables are important, but I cannot eat plain broccoli, lettuce, bell peppers, etc. by themselves. How do you guys eat your veggies? Do you use some kind of dip? I looked around the nutrition section for the answer but no real answer to my question :)

I typically eat my cucumber, carrots, and bell pepper plain. There's the option of FF ranch dip. If you get the powder to make your own, then you can dictate what goes into it.

Humus is excellent to mix with veggies.

There's always the option cheese. Just watch how much you consume at one sitting, typically 1-2 ounces is sufficient before the fat starts adding up.

I would never touch a vegetable about 4 years ago. It's a process of getting used to eating them.

OK, I have to put one thing at rest. The question I have argues with my brother for quite some time. He tells me that the milk I drink(skim) and any other dairy product causes a layer of fat right under the skin of the stomach. Is this true? I keep not believing it and he keeps trying to back-up his statement that any dairy product causes a layer of fat under the skin. Who's right, and can anyone back this up?

Im not gonna answer your question on the fat and skim milk cuz I dont know....but I will say this....your doing great aiming, im very impressed how these guys have took you in and even more impressed how you have followed their lead. Just wanted to say kudos bro, and listen to your body if you feel extra energy utilize it and push yourself harder. And as far as the tips on how to eat veggies I get romaine lettuce instead of iceburg and I love lean turkey sandwiches and use whole wheat bread but to even go a step further you can overdo your bread intake which can be fattening so I will use a big leaf of romaine lettuce and make a sandwich out of the lettuce instead of bread....a lettuce wrap if you will. Also you should check out flax seed if you have not already...if you grind flax seed up in a coffee grinder (about a tablespoon) and mix this with some bottled water then this will help your bowel movements (help you poop) which may help you loose weight in itself....many ppl have built up toxins in their intestines from the junk food that doesnt process as good in your intestines. The oatmeal you have been eating may start helping your bowel movements as well. Aim for the stars brother and keep up your good attitude....it encourages more ppl than you are aware of :D

I think a good, simple rule of thumb is this: Each of your 6 meals should contain a carbohydrate and a protein.

On that foundation you will also want several of your meals/snacks to contain vegetables and fruit, and also some fats.

For carbs you usually want slow burning ones like oatmeal, brown rice, etc. For protein, chicken breast, whey powder, egg whites, etc. are all good. For fats there's peanut butter/nuts/olive oil etc. Fruits and vegetables there are obviously many choices - eating a wide variety of both is a good bet.

Then how you combine it all is up to you and depends on your schedule/taste/available food/caloric needs/etc. You can experiment.

So, for example, oatmeal made with whey protein powder is simple and fast and meets your requirements(carb+pro), throw in a few almonds and some raspberries and now you've also got fat and fruit in your meal. Compare this to oatmeal made with just water - it's lacking(only carb).

Good nutrition and serious exercise effort and you WILL see results.

Raw is probably the best, but sometimes I like to boil up about 300 grams of frozen mixed vegs, drain, stir in half tablespoon of olive oil, and some spices(indian spices or black pepper or sesame seeds). This goes great with a grilled chicken breast.

Good work Aiming. The key to losing your weight is to be consistent. Keep your diet and training program going every day. Post progress pictures after you lose about 15 pounds.

Taking measurements will also help your motivation. Measure your waistline at the bellybutton. After about a month of good diet and training measure it again. You should notice a big difference.

Heres a good article you should read.
John Berardi - 7 Habits

Also consider taking a vitamin/mineral pill if your not getting enough fruits and vegetables. "One A Day" is good and easy on the stomach.

"I think a good, simple rule of thumb is this: Each of your 6 meals should contain a carbohydrate and a protein."

why? each meal should contain a source of complete protein. If anything, its a rule of thumb that you shuold not eat fat and carbs together, but group your meals into protein and carb meals and fat and protein meals.
veggies and fruit can still be eaten with the fat meals..

If you want to know why, go to TESTOSTERONE NATION and search for "massive eating" you will find a series of articles on the subject.

Wow, I learned something new here. Thanks for that article.

Right, this is an excerpt from that article:

• Eat protein in every meal and eat about six meals a day.

• Don't eat meals high in carbs alone.

• Don't eat fat and carbs together in substantial amounts.

• In some meals, eat protein with carbs, but very little fat (less than 5 grams).

• In other meals, eat protein with fat, but very little carbs (less than 10 grams).

I don't disagree. I was trying to put it very simply and point out that you shouldn't eat just carbs alone or just carbs and fat(which is what the average person tends to do very frequently).

Anyway, very interesting article.

Uhh, yeah, I tried flax seeds(grinded) mixed with water, Its not my thing. Its my first and last time trying flax...:) I will stick to oatmeal, but thanx for the suggestion.

I think it is much better mixed into oatmeal (a Tbsp or 2).
I also like mixed into yogurt (1 Tbsp).

...

Why does it feel like my chest(boobs) are bigger? At the moment, I can see them through my shirt when I look down, and I feel as if they are twice as large :( I've been doing light incline bench press(3 sets of 85 lbs. 10 reps each) and pushups lately. Are these exercises doing that?

This is one solution I DO NOT want:

dude, dont worry about it. you are not getting bigger.
are you eating under your maintenance?
if so, there is no way you can be getting larger. if anything your getting grudually smaller.

incline bench and pushups work the pectorals... you want large pectorals. you dont want the fat. so keep doing these exercises.

just give your body time, and as long as your diet is on, you will make progress.

and, lets save another confusion:

When you lift there's a significant amount of blood that enters the muscle underneath any surface tissue, and the muscle tissue swells (you know the pump), and this might as well be one of the stimulations your feeling or experiencing.

Thanx, guys. You're probably right. Chillen what you said makes perfect sense. I will keep at my goal. 1 month Progerss pics soon to come! :)
