5/3/1 I Smell a Kilted One

I'm going to play with Wendler's 5/3/1 program that he sent to me after a phone conversation talking some training and what the best color would be that would accentuate my eyes.

Evo, where does the bar sit on your midsection on Z-squats? I always feel like I can't breathe due to the bar crushing my diaphram

For me it sits about an inch or two below my pecs. It'll prob be a bit different for you as you're about 3 inches taller than me (5'8" vs your 5'11"). And it can be uncomfortable in the full squat position, but then again...the z squat isn't really a comfy lift. I, however, really like them a lot more than back squatting, and I have an issue with front squats with anything over 365 due to a left clavicle that's partially missing. That and I get those wonderful dots and everything starts to fade out=passing out.

But, I inhale on the way down and tend to hold my breath on the way up...I likes intrathoracic pressure.

That’s some damn heavy Zerchers, I feel a little put to shame there, I’d never really thought of going heavy with them

Good journal

It's my squat of choice for going heavy on. One of my idols-Craig Smith hits some singles in the 600s. I'd like to be in the late 400s before the year is up.

No worries. As long as you accept you're a wimp, there's no issues. :yelrotflmao: JK

I already know I'm a wimp ... that's not exactly news to me :yelrotflmao:

Is there any way around that diaphragm-atic squashing sensation with Zerchers? The boobs also get in the way and the weight of the bar really hurts my forearms/elbows.

Not really. It's never been an issue with me, and I really don't notice it much.
My suggestion-start with just the bar and work on some reps with it. With frequency, you'll start to get used to the feeling and it won't be nearly as bad as when you started out.

The boobs also get in the way and the weight of the bar really hurts my forearms/elbows.

I can't really see your breasts getting in the way. But then again, I'm not of the female persuasion. As far as the elbows-wrap a towel around the bar or wear elbow sleeves.

I really love the zercher spot. I only do back squat to test it on occasion. And I have a clavicle problem that I'm trying to deal with that gets in the way of really going heavy on front squats.

Thanks for the tips, Evo :)
