I dont see what the big deal is.

Vulgarness all the way!!!!

VULGAR VULGR VULGAR VULGAR VULGAR

The ' big deal ' is that the vulgarity on this forum...especially the ' gratuitous ' vulgarity IMO ......is getting out of hand......that is the point......

I am inclined to agree with her on the language that's being used. A little laxity is cool, but the forum seems to have pushed it way beyond bad taste.

But I think for general purposes, it's gotten a bit too far.

Would I want my 12 year old coming on this forum? The answer is no. It needs to be tamed down, and I won't apologize for this.

Therein lies the point IMO....in theory, lurking in and of itself shouldn't represent a ' problem ' to any forum.

In my view, the access to all areas of a forum should be completely unrestricted.

Such that, the content and dialog of members within a forum is open and transparent for all members / lurkers - children, pre-teens, teens and adults alike - to see and, accordingly, should be considered members of equal status ( i.e where passwords or post counts might make some members more equal than others ;) )

You enjoy arguments way too much.

Would you agree that the sky is actually blue?

Actually BLUE AND WHITE ( if you assume some clouds :) ) - proof that God is really a Toronto Maple Leaf fan.;)

As far as arguments go, I'm simply weighing in with my opinion on this topic / debate ....as others have.

And, I simply happen to agree with evolution.

That being, in terms of ' vulgarity ', " the forum seems to have pushed it way beyond bad taste. "

I agree with that and I'm guilty of posting some off color stuff myself. But I think it could have been handled differently like maybe a pm saying
"Hey Kraken chill out you ticked this person off". Or maybe if the person who actually was offended by my post could have sent me something saying dude that wasn't cool.

Instead not knowing that any of my posts were upsetting people I kept pushing the envelope. Until the lynch mob took over on a thread in the lounge. Not trying to beat a dead horse but those are my feelings.

What I think is funny is that since the issue with complains about the language and off colour posts the site seems to have gone dead. It seems that all the easily offended people are the ones that don't post much, and that includes the coward who hid behind the name Gas

The idea of a free-for-all for BigTomW and the gang, would scare the more than 50,000 members of the site and would be a guaranteed way to drive the forum to ground (bar switching off the electricity on the forum computer). If you have any doubts look at the sexual odors thread.

Its funny how BigTomW and CCR seem to be complementing each other except that BigTomW appears to be a fall-guy version of CCR. BigTomW, many posters have kids your age and they do not come here for your theatricals. It would be easier for them to get kids/grandkids to horse around.

That's ( i.e a PM ) a good idea actually.

I would hope whoever got a PM from another member requesting they ' tone down ' the vulgarity of their posts would take the request in good faith and clean up their act accordingly.

Luckily, there are only a very select few members on this forum who tend to be the almost regular on-going ' gutter mouths ' ( not you ) when posting IMO.

Unfortunately, I think they would completely ignore such requests from other members to clean up their act.

If someone has a problem with what someone else is saying, then a PM sounds like a good idea. If it is something that is really bad and needs editing right away, report the post or imail one of the sub forum moderators.

Yup. This is what started my announcement in the first place. There was open complaining, and then I received a PM from a member complaining about the language.

Any thoughts?

If this were my website. (it's not) I would not think this is a good idea. The goal of this site is not to provide forum space for people who want to have locker room talk. There are plenty of forums where that is accepted and can be done. (look at the bb.com forum, which I do not think is something any of us want for this forum)

As I see it, this is a forum where anyone can come for advice, to talk training, and to "net socialize" with people from around the world without having to deal with or put up with the more vulgar side of the internet.

I believe this site will be more successful in the long run if the use of vulgar and "offensive" language is not tolerated.

Sure there will be people who are jerks. (I am sure that I have fit into that category a time or two) But, there is a big difference between being a jerk and using vulgar and offensive language for no purpose.

My 2 cents.

Well said.

Those are 4 really great points goergen1 - couldn't agree more !

Especially your last point regarding.." vulgar and offensive language for no purpose ".

It's this form of what I earlier called " gratuitous vulgarity " that has no place on this forum IMO.

Very well said. I am against the idea of a "locker room talk" because it reminds me of the "misc" at bb.com. And if that happens here, it would seriously degrade the forum and drive away members.

I guess the "locker room section/vulgarity" motion has been defeated. :luxlove:

Nothing has been defeated.

Your mind needs to be re-heated.

Then you will become wise and realize our members are undefeated.

They cannot be beat.

So take a seat.

Embrace the heat.

The best to all on the forum! :)

It was never up for members to decide dumbass, it get rejected long ago but people like you who just won't let things drop keep banging on about it

Oh, yeah, and why just tell us what your other account is? Keeping it a secret just makes you seem even more spineless and pointless
