Yay for California!

Who do you have more faith in ?

The writings of founding fathers like Wahsington and Jefferson.......or David W. New, Esq. ?

Obviously the former LOL

But my original point was that this country was founded and its laws influenced by religon. I was never arguing that the US was a theocracy.

How did we get here anyway?

Perhaps it's an issue of semantics then.

My position is that your Constitution and the legal framework isn't founded on religious principles - which a theocracy clearly is.

But I would concede that the laws and the government policies of the U.S. have been influenced greatly by religious interests - i.e the fundamental religious right, the jewish lobby etc.

Wow, this thread took off like a rocket. I do have one request, could some of you, I won't name names, stop spewing the bigotry against gays. Just because you're not gay, it doesn't give you the right to spread hate messages about it. It IS natural and it IS beautiful if two people are in love with each other and want to express that love. To call it disgusting, unnatural, deviant or whatever is very wrong. Love is not a detriment to society nor is it harmful to our children. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Just like hair color and skin color are not a choice. Deal with it. There are other people who are different in this world, and just because you can't understand it, it doesn't make it wrong.

Some of you guys are pretty ignorant.

Whether you believe being gay is immoral and unatural is up to you, but no one has a right to tell someone else how they should be living their life and who or who they can not marry.

If you think they are going to hell, fine, but don't judge and persecute them in this life, and rather let God deal with them in the hereafter.

I haven't seen anyone blankently state that they hate gay people. Plenty of people have voiced their opinion against gay marriage and plenty of people have voiced their opinion pro gay marriage. However, if you start a thread that perhaps contains somewhat controversial issues, then be prepared for people to state opinions that might not be in line with yours. If people think it's unnatural...so be it. If some think it's wonderful...so be it.

Actually the gov't does that, and we give 'em the power to do so. This happens in all facets of our life from no dating under-age people to teachers not being allowed to have Bibles on their desk less they face getting fired.

I guess it boils down to the question of
"do you want your kids exposed to that crap?"

Sexual orientation is a choice

If it is a choice, why would anyone choose to be gay in a society that is generally unfriendly to people who are gay?

As far as the kids go, surely there are plenty of worse things than gay people that they will encounter as they grow up. Addictive recreational drugs (including popular legal ones), sexual recklessness resulting in sexually transmitted disease and/or unwanted pregnancy, bullies / violent criminals, scammers / non-violent criminals, fast food, soda, television advertising, etc.. Better to worry about things that are actually harmful or dangerous to them, as opposed to the mere presence of gay people.

I definitely agree with this. Who you choose to make love to, whatever their gender may be, is honestly not that big of a deal. Like you said there are a lot of bad things in society that our children are not being protected from.

mind boggling ain't it?

yeah better........I'm sure they enjoyed being enslaved, or hung by rope? ....hmmm....or maybe being put in concentration camps, or imprisoned because of race?

or maybe the poor gay guy in Alabama who died, and his funeral was being protested...wanted the attention?

yeah, sure if they just wouldn't fight for their rights they would all be better off......

So every race, religion and group that has EVER been oppressed should be paid back in the form of tax breaks, scholarships, and television channels until the end of time?? The government has gone beyond granting equal civil rights...

This post is awful.

Sorry??

I don't think you're referring to me in this post, because I haven't said anything hateful towards gays... But I do want to point out that it is your opinion that it's "natural and beautiful", and that its a choice... however, I think it crosses the line when students are no longer allowed to be exposed to the idea of a "mom" and a "dad" at school. lifting this marriage ban has potential to move us further in the direction that it's "wierd" for someone to have male and female parents that are still married.

I see no reason why kids shouldn't be made aware that some families - in fact, most - consist of a " mom " and a " dad".

But, kids should also be made aware of the fact that some families may also consist of a " mom " & " mom ", or a " dad " & " dad ", or a " mom " alone or a " dad " alone etc.

lifting this marriage ban has potential to move us further in the direction that it's "wierd" for someone to have male and female parents that are still married.

Too funny !

Sorry, but that's just another example of slippery slope reasoning.

However, if you are a big fan of slippery slope reasoning, I'd say that the prevalence of divorce has a much greater potential to move people to think that it " weird " to have " male and female parents that are still married " than simply acknowledging that same sex marriage is a legal right.

While it is true that caucasians don't need to feel an inherent guilt towards other races, it is not true that "other races are better off than they ever would be" That's bull^^^^. Colonization and enslavery are not means to a better end.

Im not even reading your little arguments. All you are doing is throwing opinions at each other, wasting your time. Because after it all, nothing will have changed including your views etc.

Lets talk about gay sheep.

You're absolutely right. That was just a quickly typed to response to the notion that we're still in debt to all the people that have been opressed in the past.

However, it's fair to say that decendants of slaves in the US have better lives and opportunities than much of the population in Africa. That DOES NOT mean I am saying that slavery was right and we did them a favor.

(Sorry for getting so far off topic)

I know someone who farms Sheep, he says that if they get in a strop or don't want to do something like change field when it's raining they fall on the floor and pretend to be dead

That's Sheep fact number 1 for the thread

I think everyone should be allowed to suffer through the "joys" of marriage. On a more serious note I would never allow the government to define my relationship. The piece of paper they issue is nothing more than a tax write off. If you need the supreme court to tell you that what you are doing is "ok" then you have other issues. I am neutral to the issue, but I just don't think anyone (straight or gay/lesbian) needs the church or government to validate their love/commitment to another person.

LMAO, is that true?
