Xena's Weight Loss Journal

Thanks LaMaria... sometimes I get so upset I don't care about anything except losing weight.
I understand that. Society puts a lot of pressure on people where weight is concerned and we can end up internalizing those messages even if they're a lot more unhealthy than a couple of extra kilos. Taking good care of your body (regular, pleasant exercise, fresh air, tasty food with a good mix of nutrients, drinking enough water, getting solid sleep) is what matters. A healthy weight should be the natural result of doing those things but even if someone never quite makes it into the healthy bmi range that way they're going to be healthier than with extreme diets or yoyoing.

Hey Xena, just trying to catch up. I can second what the others have said, weight is more than fat, we are made up of a lot of other things, mostly water. So small changes in our water content can make a real difference in our weight. But that is not fat, and long term will not matter. You are losing fat, every day you are in calorie deficit you have to be. Its basic thermodynamics, you cannot live without burning calories and if you burn more than you eat the fat has to be going down.

Stick with it and your weight will follow, I know from experience it always does. In my year and 3 months of weight loss I was very consistent in what I ate, and yet some weeks I lost nothing or gained, other weeks I lost as much as 7 pounds. In the end it all worked out, as it will for you! Sticking with it is what matters, a whole lot more than day to day weight. I know that can be a hard concept to adapt, it has been for me, but it's true.

You are doing great! Keep it up.

I think it might be water. I was noticing some edema of my legs today and the scale went down again to 280.2 meaning I only gained one pound this week.

Aww thank you alligatorob. Your post means a lot to me. I think it could be water weight I'm swollen a little bit... Which probably means I need to drink more water. Thank you for sharing your experiences, it's encouraging. . I have a lot of catching up to do on diaries/journals.

I always retain water before my period. Drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding very salty foods (as well as artificial sweeteners for some reason) helps but since the water goes away after a couple of days anyway it´s not a big deal as long as you know what´s happening.

It's always nice to see the drop post-period too!...or even when you're retaining water for other reasons....

Hello, Xena. :seeya: I've just been reading through - thank you for sharing your story. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of your approach, and the strategies you use - like adding olives and things to your salads, for extra punch without calories - I'm all for that - and keeping the good food accessible. Great to see the weight loss, too! :)

Thank you so much for your post aiminglow you made me feel a lot better.

Well I have been eating like crazy because of no results but keeping calories low for the most part. I have been keeping up with my salads. The scale keeps moving between 284 and 280 and it is driving me crazy. I decided to go back to my raw vegan thing with the allowance of crackers. They help when I'm feeling sick.

I ate like 50/50 today raw foods/cooked foods. I thought I was going to do better but I found the MorningStar farms chick'n nuggets and corn dogs. I was really wanting those. I like the chick'n nuggets more than real chicken nuggets. The crackers were a lovely addition, pizza goldfish crackers. Epic fail with 2 and a half donuts. I think I need to be put on some other weight loss medicine, I still get out of control on these.

The veggie chick'n nuggets don't taste like they used to. They are less salty and taste more like chicken. A disappointment but still much better than the other nuggets.

The only "fake" meats I remember enjoying were mushroom-based sausages and pulled jackfruit, neither of which has enough protein to justify eating regularly. Anything that tries to replicate "real" meat tends to taste/feel off to me - but then chicken nuggets don't taste or feel like meat anyway, so I can see meatless alternatives being an improvement. Do you know what they're made of?

The main ingredients were wheat and soy flour but I can check it later and put a better list here. Pulled jackfruit sounds delicious.

It is, and ridiculously easy to make if your grocery store has canned green jackfruit (around here most do now).

The other main ingredient be on the chick'n nuggets was vegetable oil... everything else was less than two percent which accounts for the poor seasoning. Before they used to taste like chicken and broth, so delicious.

Ty Trusylver and LaMaria. I am down again to 280.4...had to be water weight. Eating has been very good. I found the salads at Publix and they are inexpensive and good.
