WorkInProgress's Diary

Hello!

I've decided to give keeping a diary a shot in hopes that it will help to keep me on track.

My Stats

Age:
20

Sex:
Female

Height:
5'4

Highest weight:
220 lbs

Current weight:
210 lbs

My Goals

August 1st:
199 lbs

September:
185 lbs in time for my birthday (it's the best birthday gift I can think of! ;))

January 1st:
165 lbs

May 1st:
150 lbs

I'm aiming for 150 lbs as a final goal weight, though that number may change as I near it. I took an online test that suggested my ideal body weight is somewhere between 134 and 151 lbs based on height, bone structure, etc. and that sounds about right to me. I'm not looking to be thin - a few extra pounds is fine by me. (Just not sixty extra pounds!!) My primary concern is being healthy and having more confidence.

Link to the test:

I'm not terribly diligent about updating things like this, but will try to make a real effort to check in daily, or at least a few times a week. I think it will really help.

Good luck to everyone else who has a goal to reach!

This post is mostly a reminder to myself, for those days when I feel like giving up on the weight loss plan and just "settling."

I don't know if you guys have days like that too, where you decide you may as well just accept that you'll always be overweight and get used to it? Well I do, which is the main reason why I'm still so heavy. When I feel bad about myself, I desperately want to lose weight. When I'm feeling good, though, I don't worry so much about it (which usually leads to weight gain).

But not anymore.

The main reason I want to lose weight is to be healthy. Even though I'm considered "obese," I've been blessed with good health my whole life. I know the risks associated with excess weight, though, and realize that I won't always have age on my side. The older I get, the more likely I am to develop health problems due to being overweight. That, first and foremost, is what I hope to prevent.

Secondly, I want to lose weight to feel better about myself. I've always been self-conscious of being overweight, and I'd like to be more confident. I think that losing weight will help me to achieve that.

I feel like this is the perfect time to take control and lose the weight, because of where my life is at. This coming April, I'll get my first degree. Then, I hope, I'll be off to study at a new university where I'll meet new people and have to make a new life for myself.

I'd love to go into that stage of my life feeling and looking great. (Okay, that's a pretty "duh" thing to say, I guess, because who wouldn't, right? :p)

Anyway! If all that isn't motivation enough, then I don't know what will be! I have every reason to lose this weight, and no reason WHATSOEVER to fail.

So no more excuses.

Welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you decided to start a diary. That post is going to be great motivation for you to go back and read down the road when you feel like giving up. But, if you stay here, we won't let you give up either! ;) Good luck and I look forward to getting to know you better! :D

Hey wip! Its great you are wanting to be healthy. I know exactly what you mean when you said just settling, I have told myself those same things many times. Anyway, I know everyone here will be there for you. Keep up your positive attitude and good luck. :)

Thanks for the link to the weight calculator. Welcome to the forum! You will find all the support in the world here.

Oh, I can't tell you how many times I've "settled" for the weight I'm at. I would simply tell myself I'm happy with who I am, I have a great family and wonderful friends who love me for WHO I am - not what size I wear.

And they do.

But I'm not happy with my size. Losing weight, must truly about wanting to do it for ourself and it sounds like that's right where you are :D

You've set up very realistic and attainable goals and I'm glad you joined the forum!

:)

Day 1

Hi! Thanks for the nice comments! I know I'm going to love it here. :)

Breakfast
A cup (or maybe a cup and a half?) of raison bran with skim milk

Lunch
A container of fresh fruit pieces (strawberries, melon, and grapes)

Supper
One piece of salmon, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, rice (1/2 - 1 cup?), tomato juice

Dessert (oops)
A cinnamon bun with margerine and half a glass of skim milk

Water
Only 4 cups so far...I'm going to make sure to have at least another 2 before bed

Exercise
A half hour on the Gazelle (I wonder if it's actually effective? I guess it's better than nothing!)

Goals for tomorrow:

1) Drink minimum 8 glasses of water

2) Get minimum 1 hour of exercise

3) CLEAN!!! That's not really related, but it's on my to-do list, and NEEDS to be done! But maybe it'll burn a few extra calories!

I don't work tomorrow (I worked 9 hours today), so there will be plenty of time to do all of that. Exercise is my biggest challenge..I'm pretty lazy, so seem to be good at finding excuses to avoid it! :( BUT NOT ANYMORE!!

OK Girl,
I'll be waiting to read that you got your excercise tomorrow!

You know you can do it :)

I'm glad you are going to give yourself the 15 min goal. This time I decided I was going to start very small since I've quit about a million times before (and thats not that big of an exaggeration  ). Keep up the good work, we all know you can do it!

Day 2

Thanks for the encouragement! I think it helps me to feel that I have to be "accountable" for what I do/don't do when I logon here at night!

I don't think I'm going to bother doing the food diary every single day, but I'll try to keep it up for a week or so just to get an idea of what I need to change.

Breakfast
Nothing...I know that's bad, but I decided to sleep late today instead.

Lunch
Leftovers: salmon, cauliflower and broccoli with a craft low fat cheese slice, rice with soya sauce, & sweet potatoes

Snack
Cinnamon bun & a glass of frozen lemonade

Supper
Homemade veggie soup, a turkey and pickle bun (no butter)

Dessert
A 100 calorie fudgesicle (sp?)

In retrospect, I should have skipped the cinnamon bun and chosen something healthier like a fruit for dessert. And I should have had one more serving of dairy. But overall, I think I did alright today. (Oh, and I got some cleaning done, haha!)

Water
8 glasses! Yay!

Exercise
An hour on the Gazelle. I wasn't going very fast; it said I burned 400 calories.

Goals for Tomorrow

1) Drink 8 glasses of water
2) Exercise at least 1 hour

Sounds like its still going good. Great to see you got your hour in! Hope to see you back on here soon. You can do it, keep up the good work! :)

I'll admit right now that I'm pretty bad about updating this thing!

I've more or less been staying on track though. I'm going to try to exercise for LONGER - I tend to get bored and quit before I should.

Anyway, I'm off to bed now. If I don't go soon, I'll probably be falling asleep at work tomorrow, lol!

I use the gazelle machine too for my cardio, currtenly I can only do 50mins a day, 25 morning and 25 evening.... I hope it's effective too. Let me know when you do your next weigh in.

I used to have a gazelle. I hated it! And it felt so awkward. :( I hope you are having better luck than I did with it. :D

And I don't even know what the gazelle machine is!

Anyway, get some sleep and have a good day tomorrow :)

Here's what the gazelle machine looks like.
