work in progress...

I just wrote a huge thing out and something didn’t work and I lost it so this is a shorter version than I planned: I turned 16 the 23rd and school gets out tomorrow, I’m 5’5”, 134 lbs. My goal is 125 and 25 good pushups in a row. Right now I’m not too concerned with the weight, I know I am healthy. I tend to eat a lot when stressed, but I don’t ever throw up. Sometimes I will catch myself eating to stall …cleaning my room for example! This morning I fit a (guessing) 4 ½-5 mile jog into the daily grind along with my paper route. It felt great, especially since I hadn’t done hard exercise for 4 days. I saw a hawk and the air was great. Nothing hurt during the jog, but I felt it in my calves walking around school. It took me 42 minutes.
For the school year I took a Gym class, v-ball (my fave sport), and a new sport for me, tennis. Next year I think I might try B-ball. My tennis coach and math teacher (also b-ball coach) just announced he was leaving. Some people were talking about how they wouldn’t like it, blablabla, and they are gonna quit. So I think I might join the team after not going out for 2 years. (It’s a small town, you can do that) After practicing 100 minutes or so in a couple periods, I have discovered I am terrible, I need a lot more practice, and C squad doesn’t sound too bad.
My meals:
Bfast: orange before jog, cup of oatmeal, milk, an apple
Lunch: mac n cheese w/peas and tuna on top of spinach, and a piece of cake
(snack): orange and 2 servings rhubarb cobbler
supper: stir fry on rice (white), an apple, milk, and ½ rice crispy.
I ate the stir fry stuff w/chopsticks, which proved to be a fun challenge, and I should stay farther away from desert. Did I get enough fiber today? I am so excited to be done with school tomorrow!

Today I started my first real job. I worked 12 hours and got up at 5 am:eek: I just ran w/my cool, skinny friend for about 2 miles. didn't stop, didn't push super hard. At the school (I'm a janitor there) I prolly burned some calories, including my mouth muscle:rolleyes: but the oreos, wheat thins, and chicken in a biscuit probably didn't help. Tomorrow I will bring my own, healthier, snack. I love my job and like being useful and my coworkers are friendly and hardworking. The weekend didn't go well for me. I overate the bread and some muffins made me feel sick. On Saturday I didn't wkout at all(besides 3 sets of 10 pushups). But I did ride a mule named Molly chasing cows and my thighs were sore the next couple days. Sunday I just did a 10 minute jump rope/pushup wkout. Last night I did 15 pushups in a row. Any tips on eating 1 piece of bread instead of 5 would be oh so helpful! One time I ate 9 nutrigrain bars in the same day, so ya see i have an overeating problem.

Hi Tabi, Nice to have you on the site! This is a great place and support for overall health. I like your goals too ;) Any questions you have will surely be met by great advice!

HTH

thanks for the advice-I'll have eggs in my breakfast tomorrow. I didn't pay much attention to my diet but I had a fun, active, day. After eating a big breakfast I tried to go on a jog. It was probably 3 miles. I had to walk after getting there. My one of my brothers went with me and ran at my pace (slow). On the way back a canadian goose honked at us before I saw it and ran into my brother...For about 4 hrs I trimmed hedges, the first couple by myself w/an electric trimmer and it was pretty tiring. A different bro helped me after lunch w/a gas one and it went a lot faster. I just went swimming for an hour and a 1/2-first time this summer:) and i just realized i left out my only other goal: a 6:20 mile. I am a terrible swimmer but I love it. I have a 3 day v-ball camp next week, that'll be cool.

Tabi,

What I love about keeping an online journal is that it really makes you feel accountable to someone for your eating and exercising! Congratulations on your first "real job". It does add to your self esteem when you know you are doing something important and if you can have fun doing it, it's even better!

Earlier you asked about the bread and not over eating it. What kind of bread is it? How many grams of fiber does it have? What are you eating with it? All of these would be questions I would ask myself. Unfortunately, if it is high fiber, whole grain bread and you are eating it with an equal portion of protien, you may have to search out a non wheat alternative. Sometimes we crave the foods we are slightly allergic too or have an intolerance to.

As for the granola bars, usually they have quite a bit of sugar and carbs with no protien, so that could leave you craving more.

I ate a fried egg w/salsa, an orange, and a small bowl of oatmeal and milk for breakfast, it filled me up. Where I went wrong was eating when I wasn't hungry in hopes that I would get some energy. I took an hour nap and was sleepy and lazy afer and I had to mow my dad's office lawn. Eating didn't help. As for the bread, my mom makes half wheat/white. I usually eat it plain or w/margarine. Anyway I did mow it. I went on a long walk w/my sister after that. Luckily we don't have granola bars at my house, I had those just because I bought them. I did 2 sets of 10 pushups around lunch time. I hope to start eating better so I'm not ashamed to write all that I ate. (I'll admit I had 5 small pieces of bread when I was full)

Tabi,
Don't feel ashamed! You're only human and the great thing is that you are deciding to improve!! Feelings of guilt or shame will only get in your way, try and focus on all the things you did right! You did a tremendous amout of physical labor yesturday-mowing and hiking. You learned that you want to pay more attention to your body and to eat only when you are truly hungry and you are learning to choose the most nutritious foods available. You also learned that eating when you are not hungry in hopes of having more energy later backfires! Progress, not perfection will win the race every time!!

Good job!
Sandy

Thanks for the optimism! I felt better after I went swimming last night for 1 hr and 45 minutes. I just did something right at lunch (I hope) by having a fruit jello serving instead of rhubarb cobbler. here's what else I had: a banana, slice of bread plain, about a cup of green beans, a slice of roast the size of my fist, and a generous spoonful of mashed potatoes-probably a big meal, but not bad for skipping breakfast. No worries, I only do it once a month for religious reasons-I love breakfast. I found that eating my bread slowly w/o anything helped me want to eat something else. Thanks again for your help, I'll keep working on the small things:)

adding to the food stuff: a snack of a 1/2 c dried fruit, for supper-1/2 banana, a bowl of grapenuts, and 1/2 a c of greenbeans (I hope i guessed right)

This stinkin thing was a stinker and wouldn't let me post the last reply I just wrote so I am trying again. The v-ball camp was awesome and I am out of shape pretty much sums up what I said and I don't have enough enthusiasm anymore to retype everything.

This past week has been a little rough but now my weekend begins. I didn't get enough sleep with 2 volleyball things in different towns and a meeting out of town. Turns out v-ball is hard to play when you've been up since 5 and only got 6 hrs of sleep the night before (I usually sleep 8) The good news is my family might go on a float trip Saturday! Next week I will add about 50 customers to my route since my brother is leaving for college. I hope I can juggle that and my 40hrs a week well. It's also looking like I won't do basketball. I realized I love having time to do 4H and jobs, have a clean room, wkout (ya , I know b-ball is a wkot, but it is not at my pace!) Tonight I still have things to do-I'm buying a planner today so I can manage my time well enough to fit everything I want in-so there's hope for working out in the future.

Good luck with all you have to do this summer. Don't worry about falling off the wagon. It happens to the best of us. Just get back up and go again.

I need to get on that wagon again right away-So I weighed myself this morning after not for awhile, yikes! I weighed 139-the most I have weighed in my life! Sometimes I just don't know what to do w/myself. I'm worried about my weight now. I have an older sister who used to be skinny and then thru high school gained a lot and at 23 weighs probably 170 at 5'6". She battled it too-worked out, counted calories, all that jazz, she was bulemic her junior or senior yr and luckily stopped after that. Pretty much I don't want to deal w/all that crap and am trying to prevent the weight in the first place. Right now I am not succeeding! Today I ate smarter than I have been.
bfast: grapenuts, fruit & granola crunch, an apple, skim milk in a bowl
snack: banana and a tortilla chip (cals so far=about 521)
lunch: how do I describe it? cheese, carrots, craisins, and tuna fish on top of iceberg lettuce. for desert: 3 strawberries fresh from the garden:)
and so I don't lie, the float trip is not happening due to muddy roads:(
hopefully next saturday I can pay $30 bucks to walk 18 miles for a fundraiser for a new pool. Sounds kinda dumb, but I think it would be fun.

For yesterday: had a capri sun and yogos(never had them before) for a snack
and spaggheti (can't spell), and 2 peices of bread w/marg.and jelly for supper. I probably shouldn't have eaten the bread, but I am okay w/it cuz I didn't have rootbeer floats @ the sock hop i went to. I also went roller blading for 45 minutes. My friend and I won the jitterbugging contest! (that's not much cuz hardly anyone competed:)
today's stuff
b-grapenuts, a banana, 3 strawberries, skim milk
s-big fugi apple
l-That weird salad I described earlier in a tortilla and a cup of skim milk

How am I doing? Too much? Too little? This morning I earned $30 taking tickets and I think I earned more per hour doing that than scrubbing desks! I'm pretty excited...I am sure glad I am not in my food addiction mode anymore! and was am also happy that I got "most improved" in tennis.

for supper (no snack) I ate 1/2 c green beans, lettuce, 3 deer steak strips, and 2 peices of bread w/marg.
I did a seated aeobic workout for over a 1/2 hr. And this isn't related, but I made a paper mache in the shape of a tin can and lid for a 4H project. Next up: Carpeting!

Mom and I got about 7 steps done on out stairs and then it was her bedtime:) Happy Father's day everyone! I gave the old man some salad dressing(hehe) it's also for me...anyhow, I jogged for around 45 min this morning going to the grainbins, about 4 miles. For breakfast: grapenuts, a banana, and skim milk. snack-a big fugi apple. I am loving those apples! My sis, SM, is making crock pot chicken dumplings or something like that, so I hope I don't screw this up.
