Work at Home

geez, who needs actual human interaction at all? Let's just eliminate it altogether, then we won't have to worry about what we actually look like, how we dress, what we drive, what our yards look like, or how we act - since no one would ever actually venture outside and see houses, drive cars, or talk to people in person. Hell, we wouldn't even have to bother with working out anymore, lol.

Why wait around for the aliens to come and take over? Let's just create our own "Matrix" now and get it over with.

LMAO....:yelrotflmao:

I actually have a horse sitting biz. I have had 1 client so far. And no other takers. I had a great first experience and my client was very pleased. I just wish people left more often. LOL

That sounds like a good idea. There are lots of people who have horses and need someone to help out while they are out of town or whatever.

Now you're talking!:)

Yeah, and we could all get ergonomically correct computer chairs that double as toilets, and put mini fridges under our computer desks. Throw in some baby wipes for cleaning up, and we wouldn't even have to leave the computer at all!!

wooohoo! sign me up!

So, gooch, how did you become a stay at home dad?

We always wanted one of us to stay at home if we ever had kids. My wife is more ambitious than I. She's a corporate big shot (a black belt if you are familiar with what that is in the business world) and I just had a regular ol' job which I hated. Being a stay at home parent is actually more work than I've ever done, but I like it much better than anything I have ever done. I get to be with my kids all day, don't have to deal with people I don't like and I can be a complete workout fanatic.

I definitely respect the decision to have someone stay at home with the kids. That's how dh and I always felt about it - that when we had kids, I would stay home, even if it was hard. When our son was born, I cut back on training clients to almost none at all (maybe an hour here and there). It was hard money wise, but that was the choice we made. Fortunately, he ended up getting a much better job and it became a lot easier for me to stay home. I'm glad that worked out the way it did, b/c we would've had a much harder time financially otherwise.

So, tell me gooch, if it's not too personal...

Have you experienced any negativity with the shift in gender roles? Do other men ever treat you differently etc?

I sort of expected negative reactions when I first decided to do it, but I have yet to experience a single incidence of it.

I live in the Cincinnati area, which isn't necessarily the most open-minded place in the world yet I always get positive responses when I tell someone what I "do"

The funny thing is, I get the most enthusiastically positive reactions from where you would least expect it: blue collar "redneck" type guys. They always seem to think it's the coolest thing ever...go figure.

Whenever I go somewhere and people see a man with his 3 year old boy and 1 1/2 year old girl, fully calm and capable I get a lot of those "awww" looks LOL:yelrotflmao:

Calm and capable? Hmm...perhaps I should take lessons from you!!! LOL Sometimes I feel so incapable it's not funny. And calm?? Let's not go there.

Did I mention I meditate regularly? :) LOL

It does wonders for your sanity and blood pressure
I have GOT to do that more. Even my therapist said to take 10-15 minutes out of my day and just reflect and FEEL. Not think of anything really, but just BE.

today was a perfect example of a not calm or in control mommy. My son had an appt and while we were waiting the kids were HORRIBLE!!! Being loud, messing around....I don't know how many times I said, "Shhh!!! Quiet!!!" and "Sit in your seat and find a book to read". Honestly, I wonder how anyone does this job.... LOL

It dropped my blood pressure by about 15 points (top and bottom) If I go more than a few days without meditating it starts to creep back up and I can feel things bothering me more.

I'd love to meditate, but I don't know how. Really I don't.

I try to sit and just BE - but then I can't stop thinking of stuff and my mind wanders. I think I have meditative ADD. lol How do I "train" my mind not to do that?

I have anxiety and anger issues. Well, before everything was a "disorder" or "issue" I would basically be considered A.) a worry wart and B.) short fuse. So, I figure meditation would help, but I just don't know how to start.

Deschain, I, too have a short fuse. It's terrible.

As far as the meditation thing goes, I tried this a couple of times and here's what I did:

After the kids have all gone to bed, I let them know that I am now "off duty". Assuming, of course, that hubby is home. I go up to my bedroom and shut and lock the door. I turn on my bedside lamp, light a candle and just sit. I focus on my breathing and relaxing everything. Once I have done that, I just let go and just try to be.

Hope that helps.

Check out this:

I even emailed the guy back and forth a few times and he was really helpful

I like the "inner light" meditation. Take whatever spiritual content you find there or leave it, but it will calm your mind.
