women and weightlifting

I agree you need to stick what your happy with and what works with you. The smae programs are not going to work for everyone. Sometimes you just have to try a few different things until you find what is right and what is going to be your fit.

I think you would have to work very very hard to look "unfeminine". Most of the "scary" women we see in fitness magazines probably take steroids.

Besides, muscle is sexy. Look at Madonna's arms!

If you are really worried, do sets with higher reps, like 15 or 20.

Higher-reps pump-up the arms with fluid. They promote sarcoplasmic hypertrphy (increase in the intracellular liquid, not muscle) and make your muslces look puffy.

If you lift weights and don't want big muscles, limit your sets and reps AND limit your calories. A 3*3 set/rep scheme with moderate weights will not build muscle.

I agree with Jaho, stick with what works for you, I also agree with roadrunnerrita a lot of the ladies you see in in the mags are probably taking steroids but also they have super low bodyfat levels and are often dehydrated for the photo shoot to get the muscle definition to show more and they don't look like that all of the time.

I lift heavy, my current lifts include

Squat 90 kilograms = 198.4 pounds
Deadlift 110 kilograms = 242.5 pounds
Bench Press 55 kilograms = 121.2 pounds

and improving all the time but at my last fitness assesment (Yesterday) all of my measurments were down following the trend for the last 12 months.

Trusylver, fantastic results!!
How much do you weigh/what's your height?

It is awesome to see ladies that are focused in the gym!

Cheers!

Weight Lifting for Women

If you are worried about gaining muscle making you look bulking than don't give it another thought. Female bodybuilders train intensly and use supplements to build muscle. For you to burn the most fat and just lean and tone out your body than focus on reps from 12-15, and superset between exercises. Also, the best time to do cardio for maximum fat burn is in the morning before breakfast and right after each workout with weights.

Trusylver,

are there weightclasses in this meet?

Cause if you drop to sth like 15-18% bf, you'll sweep the floor with your competitors.

I myself am just getting into lifting heavy. Yesterday I lifted 150kg DL and 100kg BP @ 83kg/6ft
