Any info what type of weight loss group you recommend.
There are so many out there for example weight watchers, Jenny craig
just to name a few. Can you tell me your experience and sucess?
Thanks for your input

I personally haven't tried any of them - too expensive for me, but I guess in both, weight watchers and Jenny Craig it depends on the rep that you get and in other weight loss groups it depends on the other people that are in your group. Most important is that you feel comfortable with the one you choose.

The only weight loss program that I belonged to was called "TOPS". I found that when I belonged to this program it was very helpful and it was not expensive. We didn't have to purchase the program and the food to go with it. I am sure that if people are interested you may be able to find this program in your community directory.

I've never heard of "TOPS"! Can you tell us a bit more about it?
I am always interested in ways to lose weight in a group that don't cost a fortune. I couldn't afford to go to i.e. Jenny Craig and buy all the food from there.

"TOPS" is a weight loss group which teaches you how to eat right. When I attended this group I didn't seem to loss pounds I lost inches instead.

I believe that "TOPS" means Take Off Pounds Sensibly

I'm currently on weight watchers. I don't attend the meetings or anything. I eat my daily points that I'm allowed. I don't think that you need to attend the meetings. I'm doing it with a group of friends and we encourage each other and make sure that we're staying on top of things and we also workout together. I've been on the counting the food program now for 6 months and I've lost 35lbs and still losing :)

catwomen ... very impressive. The TOPS sounds like a pretty smart plan, since I believe that too many people are concerned with the scale as apposed to the way they look. Numbers don't really mean anything when it comes to a scale, especially for me. As a guy, I do a fair bit of weight training (to build muscle, but also because muscle is very efficient at burning fat) in addition to some cardio. I have hardly swayed from my current weight in the last 3 years, even though I have gone from being in great shape (oh, i miss my early 20's when my metabolism was still in really high gear), to having quite a bit of a spare tire, and now to my current shape - which still needs improvement, but is getting a lot closer to where I'm confortable - and still not fluctuating more than 5 lbs.

catwoman,

i never went to an actual weight-loss group, but how can you be on weight watchers without the meeting. I always thought that they put together your meal plan and even sell you the foods - do I have the wrong info?

Your thinking of Jenny Craig, they are way too expensive. I myself have never joined a weightloss group, but alot of my co-workers have. They are all doing weight-watchers. They are seeing incredible results. You don't have to buy any food, and once you reach your goal weight (which doesn't have to be very high) your meetings are free. You can even do the meetings on-line if you want. You should check out there web-site, it just might inspire you.
Hope that helped, and good luck!!

they opened two locations near me, I don't see how it is beneficial you are on each machine for only like 3 minutes, I have 3 friends who joined and have been going regularly for several months....I can't say that I see any changes in them.

I went in for a consultation at Jenny Craigs but once they told me how much it will cost for the foods i have to say I haven't been back since.....

About Weight Watchers

I'm mad when I see this stuff. Currently I am trying Weight Watchers and have been so for over a year now and I don't like it. I've been gaining like crazy. I lost about 25lbs total and THAT'S IT. I have been gaining and then losing then gaining again...it's frustrating. I've went to the instructors and they've told me that I need to eat more! EAT MORE? I eat all my points and my activity points and I still gain.....then they tell me that maybe it's just muscle and that I shouldn't be weight lifting so much (I only do so like 3 times a week and not with much weight either). I never get a straight answer from them and I'm frustrated at having to count points all my life. I don't know if this can happen but I think my body type is the type that is able to gain more muscle instead of scale weight. I am at a loss for what I need to do. I'm like 190lbs right now and am a size 14 almost 12!!!!!!!! Not bulky at all and I look so much better than I ever have in a 14!! Help me if anyone has advice! I was thinking of just eating healthy and exercising...but even that is confusing to me:confused:

Any help would be great!

HI Annie
eating healthy and exercising sounds like a very good idea. Make sure to get the right mix of protein, fat and carbs...it takes a little getting used to, but after a while it is pretty simple to follow this rule. The one I use is 1x fat, 2x protein and 4x carbs. Example: 7gr fat, 14gr protein, 28gr carbohydrate would be ideal. I try to get my food as close to that as possible. Also try to eat the 'good' carbs from fruit and veggies, rather than bread and pasta. Hope this helps:) You said it yourself, you look so much better now, that's the best motivation to keep going.

Hey Annie80, I totally understand where you are coming from. I am 5’7 and weigh 190lbs. I think I am able to ‘hide’ my weight well. People say I look great, but I know that when I was 40 lbs lighter, I looked and felt amazing! I need to ‘get back to that happy place’ again.

Regarding Weight Watchers, my story begins with me losing 40 lbs on a starvation type diet. I slowly gained the weight back and I found myself in a PANIC a couple of months ago. I joined this forum and I had decided to try the Atkins Diet to see if I could lose weight on a high protein diet. It didn't work. It was too difficult to count carbs and protein. My mom convinced me to start Weight Watchers. So we joined together. I being away at school went to different meetings than my mom. She lost 15 lbs in one month, and I didn’t lose a pound. I had registered for one month and didn't go back after the month was up. I felt totally out of control with my eating and I didn’t know what to do. I forgot how to eat properly and I forgot how to diet. (If that makes sense) I think this had to do with a minor depression related to school and personal stress. So once I was ready to commit I decided to follow the WW program again. (I haven’t posted this recent news yet) I feel so good right now. I began exercising again (after my slight despair at not losing weight with Atkins) and I haven’t weighed myself since I began following the WW Point System. (I have the tendency to fixate and obsess over the numbers the scale reads. So I’ve made a long term commitment to follow this way of eating and see how it works.) I figure that if it works for my mom it will work for me. I know the Point System can be annoying at times and it has become a running joke at home with my dad and brother. I have to say that I’ve become use to counting points and I don’t mind them as much as counting calories, carbs, protein etc….Weight Watchers is a balanced approach, slow but does not deprive you of anything. As you’ve witnessed in the past year, moderation is the key to success.

My advice to you is to consider if you are really counting all your points, drinking water, exercising, eating late at night and eating your meals proportionally. I truly believe that I didn’t lose weight while I attended meetings because I wasn't drinking enough water, I wasn't exercising enough, I wasn’t balancing my meals, I was eating late at night and I wasn’t being ‘serious’ about my commitment.

Some advice:

1. Weight Watchers provides a ‘low carb’ option menu that you can follow that tends to ‘boost’ weight loss.
2. It provides a pre-planned one week menu that kicks starts a regime that is easy to follow if you find yourself unable to decipher the point’s method.

It sounds like you are ‘re-shaping’ your body through weight lifting and I think that as long as you feel confident in your clothes you shouldn’t be so worried. What is your goal weight? Are you still attending meetings? Sometimes your body plateaus as it ‘gets accustomed’ to a new weight. I suggest you stick with it and you’ll see results.

Good luck and keep me updated. (Perhaps we can overcome this plateau together.) My goal is to lose 40lbs by November 1st. (I should really start posting my food diary!)

well, if you are following the Diet, then don't change how much you are eating. But, it is often true that by eating more you will lose weight because you will put your motabilism into high gear. It also matters WHEN you eat. If you take in all your "points" in only one sitting then that's bad. If you take it over 6, you will find better results. Besides, you've lost 25lbs, and that's really good. It's easier to keep 25 off by losing it in a year than it is to lose it in a month. Weight training will make you put on weight and, if you are going 3 times a week, you will certainly gain muscle (you don't necessarily become bulky). If you are overly concerned about that, I would switch to a maintenance cycle of just going twice a week. Your progress should be measured by a tape then by a scale, especially when weight training. You will be building muscle, even if you can't see it, and it weighs twice as much as fat.

I have lost 0 pounds using the a diet and online training from a stupid spammy place
I have tried WW and was not impressed with their program. Some of it is good but a high protein diet is getting me much better results. I am not cutting all of my carbs either, so I have energy and I don't have to worry about gaining back three times as much weight.

Have you seen a doctor lately? Had a physical? There are medical issues, like an underactive thyroid for example, which can mess with your metabolism. Also, do you take any medications? Some cause lots of weight gain, particularly anti-depressants.

Good luck.
