Whey protein is great, bun gnc (unless you get an employee discount) is a rip off.. try bodybuilding.com and look for whey there, ON is good along with many other brands people will reccomend.

Yes you can use protein and creatine, and protein is taken whenever it's needed. Creatine is taken either 30-40 minutes before a workout, or 30-40 min after a workout (this is debated, but in the end they both work; actually you're idea would be good. if you were planning on taking 5g total, you could take 2.5 before, and 2.5 after)
