thnx wishes, u just did me a huuuuge favor!
the reason i usually quit dieting and working out is becoz i usually start off with everything all together, changing everything at the same time when in fact THIS is what i need, taking things one step at a time...so yeah i'll try that =)

Thanks for the welcome

I want to know how I can use this site to help me get thinner fitter and stay that way

I'm new to the forum as well!

I'm in my second year at university and want to try to negate the freshman 15... or maybe 20 of last year. I'm making lots of positive changes, but I want to make sure that I stay on track this time. Has everyone here found this site to be helpful?

Just joined this morning... no motivation

I've been on Sparkpeople.com... it's a GREAT site.

I go through periods of great motivation and periods of complete laziness. I'm in the LAZINESS phase right now and I'm about to bust the zippers on all my pants! I know I can lose weight and get in shape... I just can't make myself do it.

My cholesterol was high at my last lab check and I'm avoiding having it rechecked like my doctor recommended because I know it will be worse. It's almost like a black cloud I can't get out of. I know what to do, I just can't make myself do it.

I hate feeling this way. The other problem is that I'M SO HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. I pack healthy lunches and snacks, but I have no willpower around the junk food at the office. Then I just give up and eat anything and everything.

Is anyone else going through this?
Anyone willing to give me a HUGE kick in my HUGE butt???

Hi,

Look, it's hard to get motivated but it's also pretty depressing when you don't have any pants that fit.

You have to use your willpower. U know, just do it one time, pass up the snack, start w/ one and go from there. Also, don't beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon, get back on. Drink the water, at least 64 ozs. The good thing is if u can make it thru one day and drink the water, by the next day u might have dropped 1 - 4 lbs depending on how much water you r storing. Kind of nice to see the wt drop, even if it is just water wt.

Make some goals, start a journal/diary, write down everything and yes I mean everything u eat, write down your emotions when you ate it.

Make a plan. Soooooo many times I said I am going to lose wt, but really had no plan except maybe go to the gym. But my food habits sucked!

I've only just started, but by writing stuff down, I see where my problem times, when I get home from work.

write your goals in your online diary:
how much u want to lose?
by when?
How much each month? (make it sensible, 20lbs in a month ain't gonna happen unless u r extremely overwt and retaining a ton of water and even then, seems unreasonable and cutting off your head ain't an option)
How often do u want to workout?
what type of workout do u want to do?
wts. & some form of interval cardio trainiing?
now detail thiis and write what days u plan on working out.

Hope this helps.

My advice, dont wait for motivation, you could be waiting a very long time.

Motivation comes AFTER you loose the weight so i found.

traceyfin,
I am new as well...and I am totally understanding where you are...desperate....scared...wondering "what's wrong with me that I can't DO THIS?" Thinking "If I try again...nothing is going to change...I will fail again"...this is how I feel. But, that is why I joined this forum...I am looking for support, answers, tips, pushing and shoving from people who have been through or are going through what I am going through. Hopefully, we can support eachother.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and was wanting to start a diary to keep myself accountable. I'm having a little trouble, though, figuring out how to do so. Can anyone help me? thanks.

Hi, I just joined here tonight. I am a mom of 3 children and have been married for almost 9 years. I own my own business and I love to cook, bake, make candles etc.

I have never been really overweight in high school i was 5'10 120lbs. When I turned 21 I gained like 40lbs in a year. I really contribute this to moving out of my parents home, eating fast food everyday and drinking lots of beer everynight. Anyways, when i got married I was 150lbs. Then had my 1st baby 2 babies later I still have not seen 150 on a scale. I really haven't tried that hard though. Now, that I am almost 185 I think its time to slim back down and start looking good and feeling good again.

My issues are that I eat because I am bored or upset. Of course, owning a store that carries all the goodies does not help either. I am a big pop-a-holic and I love chocolate.

My goal is to lose 45-50lbs by cutting out pop, sugar, potatoes (gonna be tough with that one) and most breads. Plus, I am going to try some exercises and my ball with some weights.

I would like to lose as much as I can by March-April for my high school reunion. I think most people would crap thier pants if they could see me now.

Anyways, if anyone has any good advice as to how to jump start the weight loss I certainly would appreciate it. Also, if there are any moms here that now how to battle the pouch left from babies let me know how this can be done. I have had 3 babies over 9lbs each and I really need to tighten this problem area. So that being said my problem areas seem to be my mid-section thighs, stomach, hips.

Thanks to all and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

smward,
I just joined too & I can relate! I weighed 125lbs from 11yo til I started having kids. I never really lost the baby weight & over the last several years I've been slowly putting on the pounds. Around Halloween I weighed 183! I've lost about ten ponds since then & want to lose 30-40 more.
Good Luck to both of us!

BrandyW's Intro

Hi!

I've been lurking here for a couple months & finally decided to join. All of your stories, advice & especially the before & after pics are so inspiring- I've been reading the posts here every morning to keep myself motivated. Seeing many of you losing 100+ lbs really puts the 30 lbs that I want to lose in a different perspective!

About my weight loss issues-
I never really struggled with my weight, I was always pretty thin until I had my 1st child. I gained a whopping 60lbs due to my own overeating and laziness during my pregnancy & didn't lose any of it, even breastfeeding. When we wanted to have another baby I decided to drop some weight so I wouldn't start another pregnancy so heavy. I managed to lose 30lbs in 3 months pretty easily, just eating a lot of salad and working out at home. I looked good after the birth of my 2nd baby, I weighed around 155lbs, but over the last 9 yrs the weight has crept back on and I'm finding it much more difficult to lose.
My body seems to be fighting to stay 180 lbs!
Around Halloween I put batteries in my scale (I hadn't weighed myself in over a year) and found out I was up to 183- my highest weight & what I weighed when I was 9mos pregnant!
Since then I've been counting calories and trying to stay within a range of 1200-1500 a day, but I haven't been working out like I should.
I've lost 11lbs & now weigh 172.
I've decided 2008 is going to be my year to lose all of it & get back down to somewhere around 145.. 135 would be nice, but I'm not sure if it's a realistic goal.

About me-
I'm a sahm in GA, I've been happily married to my highschool sweetheart for 13 yrs & we have 2 kids. I read a lot, like to go camping & the outdoors in general, hang out/entertain w/ friends, hate housework & play Oblivion when my dh or son aren't hogging the xbox.

Hello everyone. I am wanting to start losing weight. I don't know where to start. I have no will power. How should I get started and how do I stay motivated? Any help is welcomed. Thanks!

New to the site

Hi all. I am new to this web site. I signed up because I need to "hang out" with like minded people and those with a similar goal as myself. I used to be in great shape, and it just got away from me. I keep telling myself I need to eat healthy and exercise, but I have a serious lack of motivation. So motivation is one of the big elements I am going to be looking for here. That and accountability. See, where I fall short is I binge when no one is looking. I am really looking forward to being able to focus on improving my health and seeing what everyone else is doing and what struggles you all might have as well.

First Timer

Hi, everyone, this is my first post and I'm really new to all of this. I have been trying for years to lose weight ans have failed miserably. I hope by communicating with others I can be sucessfull.

What I recommend before you start anything is do a colon cleanse before you diet. You can get like a psyllum husk powder and take it for about a week. You will get rid of at least 2 of more pounds in excess from this alone. When that is finished, you can start your diet regimen. Trust me it would make it a lot easier on you if you do the cleanse first.

thanks for your post

Hey, Thanks for the advice you pointed out one of my biggest problems and thats emotional eating. I have lost 24 pounds since august of 2007 but I always get thrown of track and can never seem to find my way back to the healthy eating and exercising.. its like a rollercoster ride for me.

colon diets are silly and pointless. Your body cleans itself out perfectly without the help of silly gimmicky diets designed to line the pockets of the people who create them.

i need to start this....
