What to do when you have soreness?

Hello ladies - I just joined the site and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

I start my program tomorrow that bigstew laid out for me (thank you stew!) and I was wondering what should I do when I get the soreness? How is the easiest way to deal with it?

Do I just have to work through it?

Thanks

appreciate it. IT WONT BE LONG and you will have to nearly kill yourself to get sore. if you stay with your program...

I'm not a lady either, but I find that when I'm sore after a new routine, there isn't anytihng I can do about it to make it ago away accept wait a day or two.

Stretching may feel good, but it only lasts while you stretch, massages are expensive, and don't like stretching I think are only temporary reliefs. (Once I got a massage, and was sore the next day from it...)

Your best bet is "active recovery" which basically means that you choose either a specific movement related to your soreness (light dumbbell presses for 20-30 reps if your chest is sore, light leg presses for 20-30 reps if your quads/glutes are sore, etc, etc) or general movements such as dynamic stretching, light cardio, etc, etc. This will increase blood flow to the areas that are sore and decrease DOMS (post-workout soreness). In addition, you can try to lightly stretch, use self-myofascial release with a foam roller, or take contrast baths, each of which can help to reduce DOMS as well :)
