This book will help you a lot "Fitness for dummies". It answers all the main questions and helps you understand first hand what is happening when training and dieting.

I don't know what 11 stone is, but you say you are not fat, so I will give you a bit of advice on starting to run.

Get some good shoes

drink a gallon of water a day

unless you are running 60-90 minutes, or longer, nutrition prior to running is a personal preference. I find I feel better when I have lil to nothing. BUT, I typically run much further than healthy

Running first thing in the morning, or at night and all that is dependant on your schedule, how much you sweat, and what works for you.

If you are intending to run races, we can talk about those later.

Good luck.

oh, and we have lots of info in the sections of this forum- ie: nutriton 101, and body building info for young athletes and such.

Welcome to the forum.

to answer your questionn - I make most of my runs in the middle of the day, for heat training purposes.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I am thinking about getting up earlier than i usually do about 6.45am which then gives me about an hour for exercise.

I was thinking of going for a run and maybe some weights?

What sort of breakfast would I need after the exercise. I work in IT so I will be sat down at a comp until lunch.

Any advice guys :)

As long as you hydrate properly during the day, it shouldn't be a problem. Remember though, you'll b in a state of fasting, not that flexible, and sometimes tired. Listen to your body, and if it's telling you to leave it for a day then leave it. Slow jog for 5 minutes, stretching and then u r good to go mate.

go for a 3-4 egg omelet with ham, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. The fat and the protein will keep you full until lunch and your insulin levels will stay low as well

Prior to running, I recommend eating a banana.

You should also know that after you eat, blood is down in your stomach to aid in digestion. Given this, cramping can become easy and in some cases life threatening - like going for a swim and suddenly you get a muscle cramp in the middle of the water.

If you want to eat, allow yourself at least 45 minutes of rest before running to prevent cramping.

About twice a week for about an hour. Try to do full body exercises. I recommend body weight. Pull ups, push ups, sit ups, flutter kicks, etc. As for barbell and dumbbells, you can do all sorts of stuff. Squats, lunge, deadlifts, military bench press (if you don't have a station), cleans, etc.

I usually do banana before, then run, then eat breakfast. It's easier that way. Of course, you can test it out yourself and see which one you like better.

don't eat anything before the run, it won't make any difference, it will only upset your stomach, your run will be long finished before u can use that banana. Go for a couple of zips of gatorade instead

x2.

I run on an empty stomach. Last time i ate something before my run i felt the food bouncing around in my stomach and half-way home i had to sprint home in hopes of reaching the toilet on time.

I do not not eat for about 90 minutes before running. If you are just trying to maintain the status quo + add just a little muscle I think 4-5 60 minute workouts will do for you. I am your height, but have 10 lbs more to carry (but I am older, too). I workout 6 times a week for 45-50 minutes + try to squeeze in some extra walks here and there.

I train early in the morning. I can train on an empty stomach. When I wake up all I can think about it food until I have eaten. Sometimes I eat and cant remember it because I was still half asleep. The only way I know is that my dirty plate is on the dish rack. Yes thats right no dishwasher here.

there are some great advice in here... Also remember to Diet properly and make sure your calorie BURN >> calorie Eaten. Bananas + lots of water = reducing chances of cramps. Stretch a little before the run, more once you are warmed up, and a little more afterward. Also don't forget to shower before you go to work.

I would alternate between light weight and running to start off with Sunday to rest and do chores around the house. For weight training, try doing: push ups, sit-ups, squats, Burpee, pull ups, dips (just with your chair), etc.... try to do "weight" training for at least 30 minutes also.

to maximize your weight loss, one should always work out beginning at 1:34 pm On Tuesdays / Thursdays, 4:16 am Wednesdays / Fridays and 7:51am Monday/Saturday/Sunday.

All routines should last between 51 and 74 minutes, except for Tuesdays, which should be between 35 and 66 minutes.

It will burn 1.6x the calories during these times, as proven HERE.
