What programs work for you?

No only is the advice bad, but it's DANGEROUS:

morning: oat meal with a raw egg--don't worry about salmonella, all you need to do is wash the egg off with soap and water (crazy i know) for about 10 sec.
That is the most ignorant, dangerous, stupid thing I've seen posted on this forum yet.

When someone with an immune suppressed system takes your advice and dies because you told them washing an egg will get rid of salmonella, I hope you get your ass sued off.

And I'm deadly serious.

Kara - I wonder how much of the 25 pounds allegedly lost in a month was down to food poisoning...

Drastic results

I started off with Dr. Cohen’s first personal diet; I lost 45kg in 4 months, there after I needed to build some muscle. I started going to gym and increased my protein intake. I dropped my Carbohydrate intake to the bare minimum in order for my Glycogen levels never to exceed its maximum. I also started doing my favourite sport – Mountain Biking. Thus in a very short time I dropped from 114kg to 69 kg and I am back up to 78kg. My fat percentage at the moment is 7.6%. :hurray:

Hi thehermanator

I dont know whether you have noticed it - but we have a great Cohens section here. My friend Cate is very active (and successful) with that plan (in maintenance now).

If you havent already been in there - I suggest that you pop in and introduce yourself. I know that they would love to meet you.

step one:

tony robbins says... set yourself up to win

make it as easy as possible, the last thing you want is to fall off the routine and hate yourself and end up gaining more weight (hey it happens).

step 2:

even 5 minutes of cardio a day is better than 45mins every other day (believe me).

the reason is because the main thing is what you eat.

step three:

you probably have medical problems due to the weight, and if not now then you will, and then life will really suck, so you need a diet that is not only gonna make you look good, but make you feel good too.

when i lost 25 lbs in a month, i didn't do any excersise. all i did was follow the following meal plan.

morning: oat meal with a raw egg--don't worry about salmonella, all you need to do is wash the egg off with soap and water (crazy i know) for about 10 sec.

don't add hot water, instaed add cold water, and eat a filling a amount, you will eventually find a consistent amount.

lunch:

huge salad (what fun) with sardines (they taste good) and add olive oil adn lemon juice, or in the begining add your favorite dressing. (no bread, or meat or cheese) but eat all the nuts you want (no peanuts, or green peppers).

you can eat as much of these as you want of these things, and you can even grill them for all i care.

supper:

same as lunch

you will skinny and super healthy ( all of your diseases will be removed) in 6 months top.

I've tried some crazy diets in my time but that is one of the craziest I have come across. That is down right dangerous if you ask me.

You can play with words all day long, but it will always be named a DIET anyway and your food intake has to be under control for the rest of your life, want it or not. It is like minivans that have a bad press and people created cross-over vehicle... avoiding the minivan nametag, this is ridiculous.

I suggest to check on my page what made the difference for me;

I now weight less than I did at 15yo.

I've found that running a few times a week and drinking water instead of everything else, does a pretty good job of keeping me where I want to be. But then, I don't have a lot of weight to lose.

I normally jump start my weight loss program with a 1 week 1000 calorie diet plan, and progressively adding calorie to my diet.

I am on a low fat diet, abt 20% fat and 20% on protein and the rest carbs.

also, i insist to exercise 60 min a day, moderate.

i manage to lose 2.5 lbs 1 week and now i am targeting to reach my 10 lbs target this week.

The vast majority of people could never hit their nutritional targets based on 1000 calories per day. It is possible that someone who was very petite to start with could manage it - because some are based on lean body weight. I am 5ft 3 and exercise and need 100g of protein in my nutrition. I know that I could never hit my nutritional targets on 1000 calories. Fortunately - people do not need to cut their calories as low as that and can still lose weight.

I faithfully tried Body For Life for over a year but had little success. Maybe it was the cheat day or maybe the eyeballing of portions for my six meals were the culprit or maybe it was the fact that I was only doing 20 minutes of HIIT , 3 times a week as per the guidelines.... I just ended up losing hope ( and not weight) after doing everything I could.

Finally reading Burn the fat , feed the muscle by Tom Venuto, the light bulb came on ! Using some of the advice from his book , I finally started seeing success.

The #1 tip from the book that helped me was " Do as much or as little cardio as you can until you see results".

I did not have much success with the six meals a day. So I have so far followed an intuition based approach which has been successful.
I just listen to my body. If I am hungry, I eat. If I am not, I skip the meal until I am hungry later. I no longer follow the clock to tell me when its time to eat.

So typically, I have a breakfast, then a small snack, then lunch and then dinner. I mostly eat low fat meals except when I am splurging and/or out with friends or family for a "nice" dinner.

I also follow the carb cycling ( which I have only recently started experimenting with ) from Tom's book with great success.

And last but not the least is cardio. I have fallen in love with running. I used to be a treadmill junkie until I tried running outdoors. After the first few disastrous runs, I was able to start running and now cannot imagine stepping on the treadmill again and running in place.

For me, the best weight loss has come as a result of the low-fat diet and slow/steady-state cardio. Instead of running all out ( as in HIIT ) if you run slowly, you will not only run much longer but you will enjoy your run as well.
For e.g. I can run at 9mph for 3 miles but my heart rate is above 85% and I am totally pooped and the run is not an easy one.
But if I run at 11mph - 12 mph, I can run 5-6 miles ( at 65 - 80% HR ) and actually enjoy it.

The higher your heart rate is , the longer it will take your body to recover. So a modest heart rate can allow you to recover quickly and go for another run the next day.

I noticed my waist shrinking with regular runs of an hour at least 3-4 times a week.

Finally, the changes I have made to lose weight are more of a lifestyle instead of being on a diet because I still indulge in foods that I like ( just not everyday ) so I no longer need a cheat day. If I crave something I will just eat it ( albeit in moderation )...and sometimes I do go overboard ( second or third helping etc). But as long as I am exercising and only eating when hungry I do not fear such transgressions.

I have noticed a lot of my fit friends follow a common pattern of eating based on how hungry they are. If they have had a big lunch , they might have a small dinner or skip dinner if they still feel stuffed.
In my past life, this was unheard of. I would have dinner/lunch regardless how much I had stuffed myself earlier and regardless of whether I was hungry or not.

HTH,
Harsh

Harsh - why do you find running at 9mph more exhausting than running at 12mph?

i go to admit to you all. there's a lot of diet's program out there. but.... to find the good and what really work out is difficult. some of the product just not meet our expectation. i know sometimes it's hard for us to accept that sometimes we spent our hard cold cash, and at the end doesn't not delivered the result that we always wanted.

There is no need to buy a program. Just eat in moderation and exercise daily! There are no secrets to weight loss. If you are buying a program that somehow "reveals the secrets to weight loss", you are just looking for an easy way to lose weight without doing the work. The secret is that there is no secret.
