What Are Your Favorite Books?

Marion Zimmer Bradley~ Mists of Avalon is a beautiful telling of King Arthur

I loved that book, too. I like the feminist take on Camelot. :)

I rarely indulge my love of fiction...but on the few occasions I have in the last year or two:

'A Song of Ice and Fire' series by George RR Martin. He's the best. Period. A Storm of Swords might be the best book I've ever read.
'The Malazan: Book of the Fallen' series by Stephen Erikson. Close second. He is an erudite writer. The military conflicts are described brilliantly.

Non-Fiction:

'Philosophy of Science' Alex Rosenberg. The most important foundation for analyzing an increasingly scientific/empirical world is to understand science itself.
'Monadology' G.W. Liebniz. An example of what happens when geniuses ignore the premises of their epistemological devices.
'The Concept of Mind' Gilbert Ryle. Materialism at its finest.
'The Unauthorized Version' Robin Lane Fox. It's never pedantic...it's truth speaks volumes.
'Law and Revolution: The Formation of the Western Legal Tradition' Berman. For good or ill, this book is really a tour de force. I've never really read anything quite like it.
