Sport Vegetable Free Diet

you've tried all the vegetables, and you just can't eat them? Cucumber, paprika.. all of it? Have you tried preparing them in different ways?

I find it seriously strange, as I can eat veggies no problem, but I'm not gonna judge, there are stuff I wouldn't eat that others would.

What is it that bothers you? BEcause a lot of veggies don't really taste that much.. could it be the form of them? Some of them are a bit soft and squishy, etc.. could that be it? Like you put them in your mouth and freak out because of the way they feel?

Since I started the 'grow a pair/suck it up' slew of comments, I'll step back in and tone it down.

You've literally tried EVERY vegetable that's easy to come by? And you've tried them raw, and cooked?

There are indeed veggies I won't touch...cucumbers for example...the smell makes them totally unappealing to me.
However other 'squash' veggies I can do, especially if cooked.

But I rarely touched cooked spinach...I prefer it raw, unless its in this roasted red pepper lazagna my wife makes (yum!).

Broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots are all things I eat raw or steamed/stir fried.

Point is: method of delivery matters a lot. There HAS to be a couple veggies out there that don't make you gag when they are prepared accordingly. Taht might mean "heavily seasoned, and buried in a cassarole" or "pureed and hidden as a topping".

But I do sincerely feel that you're doing yourself a dis-service.

Also, medical doctors are NOT educated to be that savvy on food choices, and having a familiy history of diabeties is all the more reason you want to watch your starchy and sugary carb intake, and get plenty of fiberous veggies in.

I find it comical that everyone has the same reasoning for me to change my ways.

"I like vegetables. you should too".

It's a piss poor reasoning to go with. I can't help it. And trust me, I am NOT spoiled. At all. I come from a poor family. I haven't gone out or paid anything but rent in over 4 years. Sad but true. It's just something I have learned to deal with.

Now no I haven't tried EVERY single veggie of course. But everything you can find in a grocery store in the produce isle, I have tried. Cooked many ( but not all ) ways. Growing up, my mom found it annoying to try to cook for me. It's hard cooking for 3 growing boys, and then yourself, only to find that one kid doesn't like anything you made, and wants something new. After she tried to make me sit there until I ate, she learned that no. I dont like them. I've sat at the table for over 10 hours as a kid. I was adamant about really sincerely not likeing them.

However, basketlady showed me a link to a site that shows you how to "hide" veggies in foods that are quite tasty or I can tolerate just fine. I'll be experiementing once I get my OSAP payment some time near the middle/end of September. Trust me. If I could be like you guys, normal, and eat veggies ... I would. I'd give ANYTHING to be able to eat whatever I wanted. You really have no idea how embarassing it is to go to a restraunt with a woman. Sit down and have them order something great and then me pipe up and say " I'll have a burger. Plain with cheese" It's just .... childish.

Malkore, I'll try the "as a topping" or " in a casserole" method. Sounds doable atleast. I know that I'll be getting myself a blender and some protein shakes as a jumpstart in the morning. Gym class is at 7:30AM for 2 hours so, I'll need it. I'll slip some veggies in there and see if I can disguise them with a pile of berries and yogurt.

Also ... What about V8 Splash? Says there's a whole serving of veggies and fruit, but all you taste is fruit. Would it be ok to drink 1-2 of those a day? Or would that still not give me the nutrients I'll be lacking?

It's not the texture. I have eaten some weird stuff in my lifetime. I'm a guy. It's inevitable. However, it's the flavors. I just really dont like them, and when I try to force myself to swallow it, I'll gag every time. I take a bite of a burger, and catch a pickle or onion and it's *blech* out on the wrapper. It's just a reflex.

Perhaps you're all right. Maybe I was spoiled. Maybe my mother should have forced me to stay at the table until I ate the veggies. Maybe 10+ hours a night at a dinner table wasn't enough ( I blame that for me being a night hawk lol ) but, when you see a 7 year old boy looking anorexic because he stops eating, you give in. So she did. I eat my pasta and what not plain. It's actually easier to prepare if you think about it. It just looks terrible on a plate, and then the tomoatos ( I still dont see how it's a fruit ) and whatever else you add to the sauce get left behind. But Im working on it. I can handle very little ammounts of Sauce on it. I stopped putting butter/margerine on it because it's like plastic. Now Sauce is that =)

Sweet drinks including fruit juice can cause you to take in a lot of sugar calories if you are not careful. And fruit and vegetable juices have less fiber than the whole fruits and vegetables.

Drink V8 (the original kind with just vegetables, preferably low sodium) as a substitute for sweet drinks, not as a substitute for vegetables.

Now, as per wreaking havoc on my body, my doctor would tell you otherwise. Aside from now being somewhat sluggish from gaining 50 pounds in 10 months, I'm healthy. Only illness in my family that is "kinda" common, is Diabetes. I however, don't have it (yet).

Gaining 50 pounds (presumably with a considerable amount of fat, since you say you are sluggish and you gained it quite rapidly) is definitely not a good thing with a family history of diabetes. With diabetes-prone genetics, high body fat and lack of exercise will put you at high risk of getting diabetes. Perhaps not now, but eventually. And diabetes has a lot of consequences, like increased risk of heart disease, increased risk of blindness, poor wound healing, etc..

In addition, you usually want to avoid sugars and fast digesting carbohydrates most of the time (during and just after intense exercise are sometimes exceptions). Vegetables tend to be slower digesting and have a high amount of fiber for the amount of calories that they have. Eating a lot of them (not fried potatoes!) tends to be helpful in losing excess body fat, as they will help fill you up without a lot of calories.

Who has said that? A lot of people on here have said they eat things they don't like but nobody has said that you shoul dlike things because they do.

I do seriously think though that your problem is mental. Maybe that 10 hours at the dinner table as your mum tried forcing you to eat veggies had a long term effect on you.

A phobia of vegetables isn't uncommon, a popular cure for it is gradual exposure. Try take one vegetable at a time, say a carrott, and cut off a tiny slice. Then try taking just one nibble of that slice and try and hold it down.
Next day, try and take two nibbles or even a whole slice if you can stop yourself from puking.
Over time you should be able to train your body to overcome these issues

All very good advice. The Straight up V8 juice I can't stand though. It's god awful stuff.

As per this all being mental, I agree. It's just not easy to overcome something you've had since you were just a little guy. I'm not looking for a long term fix that'll keep me from ever needing to eat them, I'm looking for a quick fix that'll keep me healthy, and strong enough, along with give me the proper nutrients and what not for my training. Police Academy is no joke. I need all the energy I can get

i too would say avoid v-8 splash because its a lot of sugar carbs, and the fiber content gets reduced too.

take baby steps like you're planning, and try 'hiding' things like a few of us suggested.

Well, I am going to be going through for the R.C.M.P. Since it's a Provincal, Municipal, and Federal force, Im guessing it's a lot harder to get into with more rigorous training requirements.

To be honest, my fitness goals aren't JUST for this course. I used to be ripped. Every muscle in my body was visible. However, I was also very skinny :p I just want to get back to having a great looking body. It's 60% work related, and 40% personal image. It's a sad thing but, when you look like poop, you feel like poop.

Spent 7 years as a cop. Make a lifestyle change now. Depending on where you work the academy will seem like a joke when you get on the street. My last 5 years were midnights in the projects,.

yeah I plan on becoming an athlete again. I used to love running, and Basketball/Hockey/volleyball ( women dig a guy who can spike a ball ). I'm sure it'll help when I get stuck on a probationary 1-3 years in ****ty areas.

It's like telling a lactose intolerate person to deal with the symptoms. Milk is healthy. Suck it up.

Hmm no not really. An intolerance and and a psycho-sematic reaction are not the same thing, unless you can get it medically certified, and probably please a lot of pressured children in the process.

Whether this thread has been aggressive towards you or not, the problem remains. Not eating vegetables means you lack the opportunity to take in vital nutrients; the fibre, vitamins and minerals in veg are key to fat loss, muscle gain, fitness, health, well being and whatever other reason you have to be on here.

There is no quick fix or replacement - you need to consciously be thinking 'i am going to like this' or 'this is good' to retrain that anti-veg reflex. There has to be at least one veg you like - there's tonnes of types, flavours and textures. Hide them in sauces or burgers and gradually change your eating habits.

You've acknowledged you have an odd problem, for the sake of your training ,appearance and health you know you need to find a solution to it, but its going to take time whatever that is.

For what its worth, your family's diabeties history should be your biggest motivation in this. And definitely no quick fix high energy drinks.

Check out the book Men's Health PowerTraining. (Amazon) Very good routine for athletes and cops alike. :) The author Robert Dos Remedios is a college athletic and conditioning coach.

look at recipies and how to make them on youtube. Vegetables are really tastey, its just the way you cook them Tofu is a great vegetable where in if you cook it nicely, its super good.

I experienced something similar yesterday.Apparently i was eating tomatoes, raisins, omlets, fish and other veggies for the last few weeks.Yesterday my parent bought 4 packs of chicken nuggets since she was going to leave for a long time and i would have to make food for myself.

So i thought what the CENSORED,i`m not gonna jog or do anymore situps today,i guess i could have a few. After eating a few,i felt kind of ill.It just didn`t taste good and i resulted to throwing most of them away. They sure tasted good before i changed what i ate a few weeks ago.

This got me thinking and i remembered that i had seen some nutritionist expert guy on tv once and he was telling a vegetarian family that if you avoid specific food,be it good for you or not,you will develope an intolerance for it and will be unable to eat a larger ammount of it.

I guess that`s what you have.

It seems that instead of trying to get used to this food when your mother introduced it to you,you were actually getting used to avoiding it.Can`t blame you for it because you were only a child back then.

I guess the best solution to this is,as someone here recommended it to you, hiding the veggies in the food and slowly increasing the ammount of them untill you can actually eat them raw.Alternatively you could do what someone else recommended too-eating it in small ammounts and gradually eating more as you get more used to it.

I think those 2 options are fairly good ones.

im 24 and didnt like veggies till a few months ago. like some said start small hide it in stuff. another thing you could try is grilling some salad with a little seasoning. that i found to kill most the taste i disliked. doing that lead to me eating veggies with just about everything and realizing that they take the flavor of anything that they are prepared with.

good luck man.
