Sport Two cans of Tuna a day?

Sport Fitness
hello,

is it ok to have 2 full cans of tuna a day? I would have one in the morning at around 11, and another at 4-5 for my post workout meal.

I know about the mercury and stuff, but im lacking on calories and if i could have 2 tuna cans a day that would help me out alot.
Please let me know.

Two cans per day is a definite no no. I think a can every second day is okay. This will give time for the mercury to pass-by your system. I highly recommend you find another source for protein.

alright that makes sense. Lol 1 every 2 days. I was like WHAT. Anywyas I eat 1 can a day for 5 days. So now im having 5 cans.

i was hoping if its SAFE to increase it to 2 a day. so 10 cans total for 1 week.

I need more input, as to is this ok? 10 cans?

Methyl mercury is not filtered out by the body. Ethyl mercury is, however. I would not advise eating two cans of albacore a day, as it has a higher methyl mercury content. However, non-albacore poses little risk, IMO. As CCR has linked, this has been recently discussed.

wild salmon? hmm sounds good. I like salmon.
But like tuna is 49 cents at my place. How much do you think the Salmon would be?

You can try other types of canned fish. Tuna is one of the worst for mercury content. I never eat it.

These statements are misinformed. The fish with the highest mercury content are predatory fish, which tuna is not. Canned tuna falls well below FDA thresholds for methyl mercury consumption.

Here's a quick read on it:

This is on a site set up for the purpose of telling people how dangerous Tuna is! I had a quick look round the site and it looks less objective than a Michael Moore movie.

How about this for a reputable source of info? Apparently the world is a cube and God hates gays

If you want to argue a case against Tuna at least use a reputable source

I didn't say it was the worst, I said it was one of the worst.
Yes, which is still a false statement.

Women of reproductive age, which includes me, should not eat it in excess.
No one should consume methyl mercury in excess. That is why it is called "excess".

Therefore, I do not eat it at all.
Like it or not, you consume methyl mercury every day. That is because it is everywhere.

Some things the FDA say are okay are not. Junk food and fast food are FDA approved. Does it mean that it's okay to eat that in excess?
I represent pharmaceutical and nutritional supplement manufacturers as part of my law practice, so I actually have some experience dealing with the FDA. THe FDA does not approve food. Do you really think Burger King presented the Whopper to the federal government for approval?

And again, you are making tautological statements regarding excess. OF course it is not ok to eat fast food to excess. It is also not go to drink water to excess, spend money to excess, or exercise to excess. That is why it is called "excess".

The FDA does it's best to conduct studies that give somewhat of a picture of the safety of a food. They can't be perfect and try to ban every food that has a tiny bit of toxicity in it.
See above. The FDA does not approve food. It approves certain food ingredients, such as aspartame, for example, but not food products. There was no approval process before pizza-flavored Pringles were put on the market.

Different foods are okay for different people. I don't eat tuna because it is high up on the list, higher than other types of fish that have negligible amounts of mercury, and I don't want to risk reproductive harm.
As I have shown above, it is not.

But if you are a man, then it shouldn't matter.
Believe it or not, methyl mercury is harmful to men as well as women.

Here's a quick read on it:

Anyway, yes, the salmon is more expensive. But I think it tastes better. Look for it.

The Mercury Policy Project is a fraud. Among other things, it claims that thimerosal in vaccines causes autism and other neurological ailments.

Tani,

Any chance you can go back to where you were last week? Both of your classy fans on this site won't miss you that much....after all, there are other ways of staying in touch with your mom and dad.

CCR is neither my mother nor my father.

Lol, I'm a Tani fan now?? :yelrotflmao:

I've bitched about Tani more than most but in this instance he's bang on the money

No kidding? Wow. Thanks for the clarification. For someone who knows everything about everything, you're a little slow on the uptake. CCR quickly distanced himself from your "classy fans". Like CCR, I rarely agree with you, but your posts are wrapped in such a demented amount of derogatory and hateful remarks, it borders on the bizarre.

I don't want to get down in the mud, but to take a discussion on tuna, and tell someone "please don't breed" is such monstrous immaturity, I can only imagine your goal is to get banned for good this time.

Like everyone else here, I wish you the best in the pursuit of your goals.

I don't see what is hateful or derogatory about dispelling myths about the consumption of methyl mercury, or bizarre ideas about how the FDA approved the Big Mac.

That was sound advice, not immaturity. She kept going on about waning to avoid pregnancy problems, and the only way to ensure that is to avoid pregnancy. She was the one who raised her womb as if I carried to hear about it, anyway.

Like everyone else here, I wish you the best in the pursuit of your goals.
Thanks, fan!

Thanks doug,

He's already been reported. I sure didn't expect this kind of immaturity here. This is where people come to ask for help, not to be abused by other members. He's going on ignore. I don't have time for that kind of immaturity.

Sorry to the starter of the thread. It's too bad your thread got hijacked by this guy.

Actually, if you start at the beginning, you'll see I gave some fine advice ot the OP before you went on your ill-informed tear about methyl mercury.

Also, reporting people causes cancer.
