well, i guess im going to get some protein powder. i told my mom it would probably be cheaper to buy me the powder, instead of having to buy lean meats like tuna, chicken etc every few days. now it will be every week or so ;) i still am gonna gobble down lots of chicken probably even with my powder.

but im looking to make a custom blend, i want creatine in it for sure. i dont know if i should put carbs in it unless its a good idea. pretty much gonna have this for pre and post workout. and ill throw some peanut butter in pre workout shake for some fat. but can anybody help me with the % of how much creatine/carbs/protein (whey isolate) ii should get. any help appreciated. OR are theyre any good powders that come without being custom that have creatine in it already.

whoa, looking at it now, seems expensive, how many lbs you think i would need? is 5lbs of powder alot?

You're looking at a VERY large serving if you want to get sufficient amounts of those nutrients.

When I work with customers, they often want a one-stop product for all their needs. A super-protein that has glutamine, creatine, amino acids, etc. etc.

Fact of the matter is, you're not going to get it. It's almost always better to isolate your protein and get your other nutrients separately. You're going to be paying for them one-way-or-another, and for things like creatine it's better to get a buffered creatine monohydrate like Kre-Alkalyn for the dramatically improved absorption.

Remember: when you add stuff to your protein, you're either getting less protein for the serving size, or having to take a much larger serving size anyway.

I agree with Fil. your protein powder should be protein...if its for post workout it should have carbs.
Take a look at trueprotein's pre-mixed blends. They have pre and post formulas already pre-made. I wouldn't add creatine, glutaime, aminos...and would suggest Sucralose as the sweetner.

well, theres alot of different mixes. instead would it be a better idea just to go with plan ole whey protein, and throw a bannana or some sort of fruit in there? like eat an apple with my shake

Yeah you can always just go with a basic whey protein any time of the day. Only time you wouldn't want whey is right before bed...it just digests too fast.
To slow it down you can add a tablespoon of natural peanut butter or flaxseed oil, but never add those if its a post-workout shake.

like if if i get whey, add natty pb pre workout? and maybe add a bannana or some sort of fruit post workout?
actually, ima probably just stick with some complex carbs pre workout, like some protein with rice or potato. or would it be better to take a whey shake pre workout

I personally go with whole foods pre-workout. They digest better, and the way my meal schedule works I eat about 90 mins pre-workout, so I'm not feeling full, nor starving, when I hit the gym, so I stay focused on the task at hand.

yeah, ive read that in a few places, im only gonna use my whey for post. only getting a 5lb tub, so ima stretch it to make it last as long as possible  but then i go back to the question of, i want to take some carbs post workout too. i want to get atleast 2:1 carb protein. so what would be good for that, bananna or 2 or 3? bannannas (sp?) are one of the more sugary fruits, so, any suggestions appreciated.

lol only 5lbs... anyways surge is great for post workout carbs

A few options...buy a basic protein for usage and buy a protein that also contains maltodextrin and dextrose (true protein).

You can get some Surge from t-nation.com and it works wonderfully.

I've been using a product called CytoSport exercise recovery and mixing it with some Ultimate Protein System from Iron-Tek and it's awesome for post-workout.

You can always go to Walmart and get some powdered gatorade to mix with protein and you can usually pick up some extra BCAAs for pretty cheap (you don't have to make it complicated though). This would prob be the cheapest way to go.

You can also just buy a tub of maltodextrin from a healthfood store (or trueprotein.com sells it separate too) and then add it to your post workout protein at a 2:1 ratio.

alright, appreciate all the suggestions. will go to good use

and lol mreik, you make me feel weak saying 'only 5lbs' :( should i get like 10lbs? or even more?

no i meant its funny that you refer to 5lbs of anything as 'only'... i only get the 3lb containers!! i know i prob should get 5 or 10(to save $), but they dont make it in the brand i like..

oh i was thinking of going with optimum nutrition, 10lb tub for about 37 bucks at bodybuilder.com deal; yes? yes. and its gotten good reviews. even though im really looking for something with more than 200 calories. i want a good weigh gainer shake. with lots of calories. since ive been bulking, i feel like an ectomorph. i eat and eat and eat and dont gain any fat weight. so i try and up it...i try. my stomach can only hold so much food and water  are all ectomorphs like, super skinny?

Anything on this page will give you plenty of calories and quality protein, I'm sure you can find the brands for sale somewhere near to you. May have to cut & paste.

you're all talking about powders and blends of nutrients to take post and pre workout, but is it alright just to eat a normal meal before and after (adding whey supplement to the p/w meal).
my pre-workout meal (for weights in the evening) is oatmeal with cinammon and chopped apple, then my post workout is a stir-fry with brown rice. Should I have the protein shake before or after workout?

i finally got my whey few days ago! but i take half a scoop of whey about 20-30 minutes before im done working. then i take a scoop after im done working out with a peice of fruit. pre workout is usually some brown rice about an hour, hour 1/2 before working out. then i take a half scoop of whey right before i workout. dam i love protein powder, it tastes so good to just dip my finger in it. im glad i finally got some :D
