I've been thinking about some sort of triathlon challenge to create for a long time now but I couldn't think of how to structure it. I have come up with several good ideas. Since this is the first month I will make this one the easiest. Depending on how many members step up to the challenge, each month may get a little more challenging.

For this month, we can choose one, two, or all three legs of the ironman length triathlon to do. In other words, you can do only the swimming, only the biking or only the running or you can do two or three of them if you are feeling brave. You have the entire month to complete the full length of the leg.

An ironman length triathlon consists of the following legs:
2.4 miles of swimming
112 miles of biking
26.2 miles of running

If you complete one leg in July you get one star, two legs you get two stars and all three you get three stars.

For this month you can even use walking distances for the running part.

I am going to try to do all three for the month so wish me luck.

Just got back from the gym. I swam a total of 0.6 miles in about 20 minutes and biked 11.0 miles in 38:23 according to the stationary bike I was on (they vary from bike to bike).

July 3rd distances
Swimming: 0.6 miles
Biking: 11.0 miles
Jogging: 0.0 miles

Totals to date
Swimming: 0.6 miles
Biking: 11.0 miles
Jogging: 0.0 miles
 
Sounds like fun.

I'll do the swimming and the jogging (although I'll lbe walking it - bad knees), but not the biking.

A - my bike is a piece of crap
B - I live on the side of a big valley, and there's no way I am in sufficient shape to get a bike back up the hill.

Can we use all of July or just starting today?

Sorry about being a couple days late in starting the challenge. You can count July 1st and 2nd if you happend to swim, bike or run on those days. If you did not, you can also use the first two days of August if you need to. That would only be fair.

I am hoping to get at least a few members to join us this month. Next month I will have a new triathlon challenge and it will be based on how many stars you earn this month. :D
 
Dang! You da man so far!

For me...

July 4th:
Swam 600 yards or 0.34 miles

I spent too much time working on round house kicks so by the time I got to the pool I was tired and just did drills and sprints.

Swimming: 0.94 miles
Biking: 11.0 miles
Jogging: 0.0 miles
 
Looks like an awesome challenge, but I cannot swim for the life of me.

You don't have to swim if you don't want to. You can just do the running part. Your name is running girl is it not? :D

There we go. That's what I'm talking about! So you are almost on pace to do a marathon per week this month! Almost seems unfair to give you just one star at the end of the month. Maybe we could give out some sort of monthly accomplishment title in code? Like 4xM or something. :D

Depending on which sport you are best at, swimming, biking or running, next month will challenge you a little more. So be ready. :D But for now, just focus on July.

I am going to attempt to do the running/walking.
I should have my music for running back to me by Thursday.
Haven't had any walking yet.
But there is always today.
 
One Leg! BOOYA, now if only I biked or swam. I'd like a big powder blue star with lot's o' SPARLIEZ plz!

I was like, "what? I haven't seen any updated miles?!?" Then I noticed you kept editing your post above. You'll get your star at the end of the month. Keep on logging your miles and maybe I'll give you more than one star depending on how many marathons you run this month. ;) You'll just have to wait and find out. :D

Swimming: 0.71 miles
Biking: 3.70 miles (actually from yesterday)
Jogging: 2.25 miles

Swimming: 1.65 miles
Biking: 14.70 miles
Jogging: 2.25 miles
 
You're doin waaay awesome yourself there Derrick, plus you actually have a life AND a family and than fitting all of this extra training!!! WHOA Way to gooo!!! :jump:
 
Well thank you. I do need to do better with the bike riding though and I am falling behind on the running.

Update for me...

Wednesday July 8th:
Running 1.25 miles

Thursday July 9th:
Running 1.60 miles

Friday July 10th:
Swimming 0.57 miles

I just came home from doing all sorts of physical stuff. Right now I am going camping for the weekend.
I'll post some updates when I get back. Don't have time to do all the calculations right now.
 
Saturday July 11th
Running: 3.1 miles this morning with the Fleet Feet runners. It was a good jog.

Looks like I should be able to finish the swimming next time I go and I am catching up with the running.
Now I just need to start biking more and it could be close by the end of the month for the full triathlon. Too bad you only have 17 hours to finish most ironmans. :eek:

Okay, here are my updated totals as of today:

Swimming: 2.3 miles

Walking: 18.6 miles (a lot of that was almost vertical, as I hiked up a couple of mountains while on holiday).
