I propose that you throw
your "before" pic up. Be the change you want to see in the world?
I'm sure there are lots of others who noticed the same thing, myself among them. I don't draw the same conclusion as you do, however. I don't see a community of attention whores. I see a lack of people willing to put their prides where their mouths are. If someone at my ideal is unhappy with where they're at, it doesn't necessarily require any less courage for them to put themselves on display in a public setting. Some choose to take before pictures, and even share them, but only in their own journals (like myself).
In the past couple of months I've spent hours of my time scouring the internet for pictures of others' transformations for inspiration..and some hope that my non-already-very-decent body can make the transition too. (I'm now beginning to realize that I can do it, but it will take much longer than I had initially hoped). I'm fairly sure that most of the "before"s in the "before and after"s you see floating around (of people who weren't better than average to begin with) were posted AFTER the transformation, not during.
In any case, even if they
are just fishing for compliments, does their doing so really hurt anyone? A positive body image might be just the kind of support they need. To each their own. As mogwai says, don't let it stop you from doing your thing. Oh, and if you're still around in 6 months, I promise I'll put up
my after photos, just for you.
Update: Oh, and just so you know..if you dig around a little, you
can find some very inspiring stuff here. Check out falco's before and after
here. When I saw that I was like "dayum." Much respect to Sr Falco. It was especially gratifying for me to see that post ..because I went from about where he was at to where I'm at now (erratically, and using some very stupid methods)..but I still have a lot of work to do to get to what I want.
