People always say it lies ? does it really ... in the morning when i wake i go on the scale (digital) lets say it weigh 238 after a 1hr jog when i return and weigh im now at 236 ?? is that correct ?

It is correct, you lost 2 pounds, however it was mostly water and after you re-hidrate you'll be back at 328 (the difference in fat will be too small for the scale to notice). The weight also changes according to how stuffed your stomach and intestine are, how full your bladder is, the general hydration of the body, your hair (and if it is wet) and clothing.

However, in the long term (like every week) the scale does give precious information. You can weight every day or even several times a day if that motivates you, just remember that in the short term the weight varies a lot due to reasons other than fat.

Ok that make sence .. i wiegh daily, some days i scrub off a few onces some days i dont .. some days i put on a little, i was just concerned when i see pounds being dropped in hours ,, hehe ..

thanks for the imput

My weight fluctuates throughout the day. If I weigh myself in the morning, I can usually predict nearly to the tenth of a pound what I am going to weigh in the afternoon, depending on what I eat. If I weigh myself in the afternoon (which I rarely do these days), I can weigh anywhere from same as I did in the morning to 2 lbs more. I know I didn't eat 2 lbs of food and I didn't gain 2 lbs of fat, so it's just a fluctuation.

All that matters is the downward trend on the graph, plus the fact that I'm losing inches. The number on the scale is the easiest to measure but it's not the only indicator of success...and gaining a pound or two overnight is not anything to worry about. It's a natural fluctuation. If you're trending upwards, time to change some habits...but if you're trending downwards with a few bumps here and there, you're OK.

Please spend some time reading around the forum -this topic has been done to death.

there's a big difference between FAT loss and WEIGHT loss.. anything can cause WEIGHT loss or gain... from a glass water to a pint of ice cream... Doesn't mean that there was FAT gain or loss.

Pick ONE time a day or better week if you're the obsessive type.. and weigh at the same time - wearing the same thing ( generally you'll get the lowest number first thing in the am - after using teh toilet) weighing multiple times a day is not in your best interest

Good points all.

I weigh myself every day, but I don't beat myself up over fluctuations. I weigh at the same time every day and only count the 6am reading. Simply drinking a cup of coffee can shoot my weight up by a pound. Doing a #2 can drop it by a pound, but sometimes it doesn't. :smilielol5:

I guess in a nutshell my scale is one of my biggest motivations, some days i love it some days i hate it ... i try to neglect it in the past but i always end up back on it daily checking my weight ....

I weigh myself every morning when I get up, which is usually around the same time. Don't eat or drink anything. I use the bathroom first, and as not to confuse myself with how much clothes weigh, just do it sans clothing, record it, and proceed with my day.

My scale is digital, and I notice the weight changes ever so slightly when I do it a few times, so I don't trust the first number I get and do it a few times until I get the same number 3 times. I think it has to do with breathing 'cause I guess air will add on weight too!?

with the digital scale you have to reset it after it sits overnight, that way it give more accurate readings

i have been weighing myself everyday for the last month..i havent been watching what i eat until this week. today i hit a new low ..i fluctuated for a few weeks but never went below 184...today i was 182...so i think thats good. i keep a 3x5 card in my medicine cabinet and record each day. right now i am feeling like it is helping me keep in touch with how my body is daily/keeps me honest. its better than going a week and thinking i have been so good only to find i didnt lose anything...

i also talked to a guy at work that recently dropped 20 pounds..and he does the same thing..weighs everyday. works for him

Graphing your weight is pretty cool. Wii Fit does it for me, but yeah, I love looking at it. Keeps getting lower, lower, and lower...and so on. Although, that up in the graph is kind of discouraging, but you have to remember... Always take the weekly weight loss more seriously then the daily weight loss.
