The Lose Fat challenge

I'm at 186 pounds as of now.
woot woot. Great progress!
I'm making a rule: No eating past 7pm (except dried fruit)
I feel better in the morning if i wake up hungry =]

Wow, your determination is truly inspiring!

Keep the postivity flowing, kick ass. 11 lbs weight lost is no joke especially if you are working out again and gaining some muscle weight. good stuff. Conceptualize, visualize, and achieve.

It's been really hard for me to stay on track as of late. I'm focusing on getting everything packed up for US to move back to Arizona in January. I'm trying not to overeat on a daily basis, and gain. I'm fluctuating between 186-189 lately. Which is fine I guess. I'm still trying to be a bit more active, and I'll really kick my ass in gear when I get back to Az, and have the money for the gym, not to mention a stove, and the food to cook it on.

I understand your problem Christi, but I have a point to make.

When life throws some curve-balls (like in this case: You cannot workout), then one keeps the most critical part of the process so ones' goal doesn't "entirely" fall apart, and this is the: DIET.

One's diet (IMO) is always under one's control--one way or the other: PERIOD.

You can possibly view your circumstances a bit different (by working in elements of your goal you can, instead of placing it as second nature), and stay on your goal path. WORK WITH YOUR GOAL WITHIN YOUR LIFE.

You CAN still adjust your calories (create a small deficit) according to what you are doing "in life" (and not workout because circumstances are preventing it), and STILL LOSE GOOD TISSUE WEIGHT.

Not being able to train is not an excuse that would settle with me very well (if it were me). You may not be able to control the time (so-to-speak) on your training, but you can control the most critical part of of your fat loss quest: YOUR DIET.

Your circumstances are making you active and you are burning calories (think of it as an activity change), and by adjusting your calories to this change in life, you have the tools to stay on your goal path.......SIMPLE. Stress gone......and still on your way.

KEEP YOUR DIET, Christi.

It is your best friend.......EVER.

Life is like a teeter-totter; whether its up or down, you have to conform and adjust.

If you don't, and when it goes down, you fall the hell off.

Christi you have to conform and adapt......you are not going to have a choice......if you want your goal.

If you don't use education and adapt, you are going to meet this fork in the road many times, and come to a dead end.

Life has always had its ups and downs......and there ARE ways to optimize a seemingly unoptimized life situation when it develops.

Best wishes

You can still lose the unwanted tissue within your circumstance Christi. Don't lose yourself within these circumstances, young lady. Stay "at one" with yourself (and life) and your goal. Open up your vision and use "education" to guide you. It is the best co-partner you can ever have.

At its worst, you are simply not expending as much energy (not being able to workout) as compared to when you were, and you simply have to eye ball your calorie intake, and at the very least may have to make a slight adjustment to the less energy expenditure. Though its not optimal, when you get right down to it, one does not have workout (or include cardio) to lose tissue weight, but one DOES HAVE TO work with the DIET.

And, if you are tussling with hunger during this period. I can write something up for you to see if it can help, and maybe assist you in getting a different frame of mind when going to the grocery store and dealing with your hunger pains and cravings.

Let me know.

Best wishes

Yes, keep the diet, as you can lose fat via just diet alone. But without it, you won't get closer to your goals.

I've been doing a lot of research the past few days about nutrition. I've actually been watching "nutrition by Natalie" videos on youtube. You can google "nutrition by natalie" if you want to check the out, or search it on youtube.
Let me tell you, I HAVE BEEN ENLIGHTENED. So, okay take a quarter pounder meal from McDonalds. The regular size combo has 1300+ calories, and only eleven grams of fiber. I'd have to eat 20+ apples to get that many calories, and with apples containing more fiber, I'd be so full. I WOULD NEVER EAT 20+ APPLES IN ONE SITTING. It's riddiculous, the things I put into my body. No wonder I feel sick, get migraines, keep eating, etc. I am just clogging my body with junk. I am seriously to the point where I don't even WANT to eat junk anymore because I understand what it does to me.
Tomorrow is pay day. I'm going to the grocery store. No more Junk for Miss Christi. :D

this is the first time everrrr i have stuck with a diet for longer than three days. it's insane. I love it.
Right now, i'm practicing, and getting used to moderation.

This has been your main problem throughout - consistency with your diet. You already know what you need to do, it's the doing of it that is providing you with difficulty. I'd suggest setting yourself a goal - something like eating clean 90% of the time for the next three weeks, and see if you can make it happen. [tough love]It's time to stop talking about doing it, and just do it.[/tough love]

Or, look at it this way, you're in the 180's now - would you really want to get back to the 190's and have to do that work over again? I didn't think so. :)

Today wasn't hot food wise, as I had one thing in the house. I will not mention what that one thing was. But, I am keeping up with my water intake. I've taken my body weight, divided it by 2 and that's the number in oz of water I'm drinking per day now. Today it's been really hard, because in all honesty, I've just been drinking soda, and "juice", more like high fructose corn syrup in a bottle, but those days are over. I had a coke in a glass bottle today, and that's it for soda. It really doesn't do anything for me. I'm trying to make a list of the things that I need to consume on a daily basis (vitamin a, b, c, calcium, iron, dietary fiber, protein, etc.), and I'm curbing my food around that. When I look at a soft drink label, that doesn't have anything in it that my body needs to function. So, no more soft drinks. I'm making on change a week. This week, it was to give up soft drinks& switch to water. I can accomplish that, no problem. I'm also to the point where I think that dieting, I mean, EATING HEATHLY, is going to get easier. Now, not only do I know that the crap isn't good for me, but on top of that, it really makes me sick.
anyone want to make me a routine to do three times per week? (full body is preferred). I have dumbells, and thats about it.

That's an excellent first step Christi - as you pointed out, those juices/soft drinks are just empty calories that do you little to no good. That said, if you're looking for fat loss, think about addressing these issues:

1. Diet - As you're realizing, 80%-90% of your results will come from diet. And as you noted in your post above, it's time to stop thinking of diet in the conventional sense, and start to think about eating healthy. Food as fuel for your body's needs, particularly when you work out.

2. Sleep - Adequate sleep not only helps you feel better, it helps your body repair itself so that it can take on other challenges. This repair burns calories so again, it helps you to lose fat.

3. Water - Keeping your electorlytes balanced, as well as cleaning out sodium and other residues will help you not retain as much fluids, which, again, brings weight down.

4. NEAT - Also known as non-exercise activity thermogenesis, which is a fancy way of saying get off your butt and do something. Assuming you work out 5 days a week for an hour at a time, that's 5 hours a week. What happens during the rest of that time? It may not seem like much, but taking the stairs, walking, even standing all add up.

5. Working Out - Yes, here it is, last on the list... Because although you do obviously burn calories doing workouts, you're only working out 5 hours a week, using the above example. Workouts are more for body improvement - strength and endurance - than they are for fat loss. Still, strength training to protect your lean body mass in your calorie deficit as well as cardiovascular training contribute to the overall healthy feeling you'll have when you're done. While it's possible to lose weight with 1-4 on this list, it's no. 5 that will take you from looking ok to looking great once the fat's gone.

If you're looking for a good fat loss regimen that addresses all of these things, you might want to take a look at Leigh Peele's (since that's where I learned it from). Her Fat Loss Troubleshoot e-book sounds like it'd be just the thing from you. (And I think Leigh still posts on this forum too.)

Good tips Tom! That's actually a really good way for me to look at it. I have a lot of mental barriers (as if you didn't notice), and so skipping a day of exercises, sometimes makes me feel like a failure, and I just give up completely. But seeing, written out, weightloss comes 90 percent from diet, is really good for me.
Thanks!

Alright, so yesterday went pretty well. I still drank my 95+ oz of water. Only this time, it wasn't forced. It was actually kind of natural. Food went okay for the most part

Breakfast: Breakfast burrito, consisting of eggs, cheese, sirloin steak, hash browns, and salsa. I didn't get the combo; just drank water instead. This was from Jack in the Box.
Snack: Rotisserie chicken
Lunch: Lemon herb chicken w/ broccoli/cauliflower
Snack: One serving of goldfish/three individual skittles
(sugar withdrawals!!!.)
Dinner: More lemon herb chicken w/ broccoli/cauliflower
Snack: 2 Celery stalks w/ peanut butter.

I didn't drink anything other than water.
Also walked to my work location at Disneyland instead of taking the tram. This was on top of taking the bus. Also took the stairs as opposed to the elevator.
I'm got a small headache yesterday, which I know was from lack of sugar, because it went away when I had the skittles.

Hope everyone is doing well!

It's entirely possible to lose weight without working out, but you might not like what you look like when you get done. That said, missing a workout won't affect your fat loss plans all that much, especially if you're moving around the rest of the day.
