Weight-Loss Tea Talk

Weight-Loss
Emerald, I love your pics! :) That tea looks lovely.

Just came through a heat wave and I feel like I drank a couple hundred litres of cold barley tea. :) I generally dislike water on it's own, so barley's a good option for me, but I'm getting a little tired of it.

Thank you geeky ^_^
I'm glad you stayed hydrated during that heatwave!

Today is the day of finals....
So last night we made chamomile tea so that we can have a good amount of rest for the coming day.

I talked my mum into getting Twinings Prince of Wales blend leaf tea (it was on special). She really, really hates it. I love it. It's like the China tea I've had before (Sainsbury's Taste the Difference) but a lot milder. I'm really impressed and will be getting it again.

Miss you Amy.
Is your mother a regular tea drinker?

For those who are watching their caffeine intake but love to drink black tea, try brewing your tea for 30 seconds and then pouring out the contents into the sink. Now add more water to your tea cup and brew your tea as you usually would.

The bulk of the caffeine was poured out during the first 30 seconds.

Drink tea ^_^

I have to share this tea!
Have any of you heard of Stash tea?

Well I bought some yesterday.

Chocolate Hazelnut Decaf Black Tea

This taste very very good. It tastes exactly like a chocolate bar. I added 1tsp of sugar (*shrugs*) to mine and it was perfect.

It has 4.7 starts out of 5 on their website

My Cinnamon and Chocolate Hazelnut "Mocha"

Yesterday I made Indian Chai.

It was delicious and made the house smell amazing. It's so aromatic I think I can now recognize this smell anytime.

Cardamom (green)
Coriander
Ginger
Cinnamon
Black Tea

(I'll post the recipe I used for this and Masala later)

It has a bold flavor if all of the ingredients are left to boil or simmer on the stove for the full 20 minutes.

I love it.

Iced tea may not have as much wisdom as hot tea, but in the summer better a cool and refreshed dullard than a steamy sweat-drenched sage - leave sagacity to the autumn! ~Linda Solegato

I bought my boyfriend some tea from Australia (T2 brand), and he tried the English Breakfast blend, which he thinks is superb.

Have you ever tried cascara (coffee cherry tea)? It's an infusion made from the fruit that surrounds the seed on a coffee plant (the seed is the coffee bean, the fruit is normally a waste product but can be used to make tea). My boyfriend bought me some and it's really nice (this time- last time I think I underbrewed it), tastes like dried fruit. I drink it black, it's so nice (I never drink coffee- or even black tea- black).

This is the one I have:

I haven't ever tried that kind of tea but it's sounds great! Do you find the caffeine content is about the same as other black tea?

My go to teas these days are:

Guayaki Yerba Mate pure empower mint tea (usually my morning tea if I'm feeling a bit tired)

Yogi Aztec Sweet Chili - if you like a little spice, this tea is a great one

It's so crazy that you would mention this! I just made my first coffee & tea mix last weekend. I mixed cherry tea with coffee grounds...

I just brewed them together and it tasted like cherry coffee tea. I made a whole batch. I liked it.

That's so weird.

I ordered Dragonwell and White Ayurvedic Chai tea from Teavana last week and I was supposed to have it by tomorrow. But it was accidentally routed to San Diego California last night. I was really hoping to have new tea to drink this weekend but looks like we won't get it now until the 24th.

It's ok. School is starting back up and that's my main focus. And this future scientist just bought her first lab coat! ^_^

Green Tea Extract Shows Promise in Leukemia Trials

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Mayo Clinic researchers are reporting positive results in early leukemia clinical trials using the chemical epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an active ingredient in green tea. The trial determined that patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) can tolerate the chemical fairly well when high doses are administered in capsule form and that lymphocyte count was reduced in one-third of participants. The findings appear today online in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

VIDEO ALERT: Additional audio and video resources, including comments by Dr. Shanafelt describing the research, are available on the Mayo Clinic News Blog.

"We found not only that patients tolerated the green tea extract at very high doses, but that many of them saw regression to some degree of their chronic lymphocytic leukemia," says Tait Shanafelt, M.D., Mayo Clinic hematologist and lead author of the study. "The majority of individuals who entered the study with enlarged lymph nodes saw a 50 percent or greater decline in their lymph node size."

CLL is the most common subtype of leukemia in the United States. Currently it has no cure. Blood tests have enabled early diagnosis in many instances; however, treatment consists of watchful waiting until the disease progresses. Statistics show that about half of patients with early stage diseases have an aggressive form of CLL that leads to early death. Researchers hope that EGCG can stabilize CLL for early stage patients or perhaps improve the effectiveness of treatment when combined with other therapies.

The research has moved to the second phase of clinical testing in a follow-up trial — already fully enrolled — involving roughly the same number of patients. All will receive the highest dose administered from the previous trial.

These clinical studies are the latest steps in a multiyear bench-to-bedside project that began with tests of the green tea extract on cancer cells in the laboratory of Mayo hematologist Neil Kay, M.D., a co-author on this article. After laboratory research showed dramatic effectiveness in killing leukemia cells, the findings were applied to studies on animal tissues and then on human cells in the lab. (See "Green Tea and Leukemia" in Discovery's Edge magazine.)

In the first clinical trial, 33 patients received variations of eight different oral doses of Polyphenon E, a proprietary compound whose primary active ingredient is EGCG. Doses ranged from 400 milligrams (mg) to 2,000 mg administered twice a day. Researchers determined that they had not reached a maximum tolerated dose, even at 2,000 mg twice per day.
