Weight-Loss Summer Shake-Up Challenge Chat Thread

Weight-Loss
i didn't update friday's b4 you did calculations. All updated now. :)

I gained 4lbs this week. :cuss: Gotta stop pigging out. :ack2:

If people tell me that they are going away and will not post on time - I will let them fill in their scoresheet later. I will hope to know when to expect it filled in though.

Some people motivate themselves by working out where they stand against the other entrants and people have no chance of doing that if no-one has any idea who has dropped out and who is just not posting until later.

We do not want to lose people who want to be part of the challenge - but we also want to motivate people who are taking it very seriously as much as ever possible.

I now know that Kirsty and Cord may not get their scoresheet done for the deadline - so that deadline is extended for them...

Kirsty - I will try to get next week's challenge bonus announced on Tuesday so that you can play while you are on holiday. Tuesday is always a very busy day for me so I cannot promise - but I will do my best.

Hey - I'll change the score to include Friday for you. Please try to remember the deadline next time. I know that it is tricky with the different time zones - but I did say 6pm UK time.

Hey - we dont work out weight loss points until the end - you will get those off in no time...

If it makes you feel any better my weight is up compared to last Saturday and I am supposed to get my head around thinking that is fine because I am in zone. I would prefer it if it were down and in zone or standing still. I still dont like to see it go up at all.

Cord - well done on the water. Did you see my earlier ruling that some points are to be had if people get at least 3 litres if their allocation is more than that. I thought that it could give an incentive to try because some people could view it as too big an initial jump and I was worried that they might not try at all.

I did see that, thanks.

Currently at 3.0 l, with four more hours of work to go.

Should be no problem to get to 4l, but man do I have to go to the washroom!

Edit: I managed 4.2 litres today. Wow that was a lot of water. I'm sloshing.

Cord - it is fantastic that you got your water done on day 1. That is brilliant. I know just what you mean about trips to the washroom. The truth of the matter is that all the old hands on the forum that know that water is something that we need to work on are visiting the toilet all the time - especially at first. If you remember - Heather and I were talking about it being great that she was working on her water just a week ago in this thread.

Water drinking sounds so innocuous until you calculate it and try it.

Thank you! I may be able to sneak on the internet quickly while I'm away but am not sure If I will have access yet.
:)

*lol*....Cord, I know what you mean about the sloshing. And boy, did I have to run to the bathroom or what? :leaving:

Worse than that, I had to get up during the night, three times.....I never usually have to get up during the night, so that was ... interesting. Good thing that it's Sunday, and I managed to sleep a little longer.

Well done to everybody by the way....the score sheet looks good!! :hurray:

It is really great that you are both drinking your water. :beerchug: It is certainly not easy.

I remember NOT getting up for the toilet in the night. I think that (apart from when I was in hospital) the last time was before Kimberly alerted me to MY need for more water. If it helps you kind of get used to it and it gets so that it doesnt wake you so much. I think that I honestly wake Rod more when I get up than I actually wake up myself - wierd but true!!!

Thankfully my water allocation has reduced now (I do still get up in the night though) - but I have got so that I relax the rule and dont bother drinking allocation on the days that I go to Newcastle. There is something about 300 miles of motorway travel, a stressed husband driving and a wife drinking water non-stop that doesnt quite all go together!!! LOL

I agree with you San - the scoresheets look great. :hurray: You can really see that we are working really hard for our weightloss. No wonder that some great results are happening (I still cannot get over Cord's brilliant results and pics).

i'm really starting to hate water. i've been drinking 3-3.5 L of water a day and its so boring.. lol

anyways gonna be gone till tuesday as i gotta take alex to see his doctors 4 hrs away from where we live for his follow up to his surgeries.

Heather - I'm sorry that you are having a tough time with the water. It does take a lot of getting used to.... If it makes you feel any better I had already decided that the water challenge was a good move next after 5-a-day before you mentioned the word "water" to me last week. Whatever you do - dont think "I wish that I had never mentioned the word water to her"....

I hope that the doctor's appointment goes well with Alex and everyone is pleased with his progress. I also hope that the trip away goes smoothly. Sometimes trips away can be stressful and cause havok with such things as healthy lifestyle choices... Take care.

Water doesnt have the most interesting of flavours - but I kind of got used to it. I dont add anything to water - and some people wouldnt let you add anything for a challenge - but I am fine with you adding a few drops of lemon or lime juice to perk up the flavour a bit. The main thing is that you are properly hydrated.

A few months before Kimberly caused me to do the calculation I was having some horrible severe stomach pains. The doctor wondered for a while if I was constipated. Anyway I wasnt drinking much water at all at that time - I was drinking other things but not water. She asked what I was drinking and when I said diet cola she told me that I needed to drink water instead as diet coke didnt help with things like constipation.

I just thought that I would throw that in because it is interesting to know that there is such a big difference between having water and other fluid. It kind of helped me get over the "this stuff tastes boring" aspects.

It actually turned out that I had gallstones - and they no longer cause me any bother (despite still being there) because my diet is so healthy these days (and this all took place when I was well into my project and my diet was a lot healthier than it had been before).

I actually love the taste of pure, cool water. Tap water not so much, except in Vancouver which has some of the cleanest tap water in the world.

My work provides pure water, so I have been drinking water at work for the last 13 years, although I also always had a can of cola. So for me to switch to just water was not as hard as it might be for some others.

That is great Cord. You are lucky having a plentiful supply of good tasting water. London tap water (which is what I drink - living in what is basically a quiet not too urban suburb in the far reaches of west London) is not as bad as it might be - but not brilliant.

I am a little too addicted to diet cola for my own good.

I suspect that one of the reasons that I am still up so often in the night is that as my water calculation reduced and I had less water that I HAD TO get through - I started drinking more diet cola again (having almost cut it out).

I know that this is not the world's healthiest thing for me to have done - but I kind of figure that I am only human and I am allowed to do the odd stupid thing.

I'm going to remember that line - because I will need it after the food I'm probably going to eat while on holiday!

LOL Cord - I am a prime example of what not to do on holiday. Yes - I am the person who went to Greece last August weighing 131 pounds and came back two weeks later weighing 143.2 pounds....

All that I can say is - possibly deep fried cheese was not a healthy new eating habit - and at least I held off on that old favourite (it's called saganaki if ever you are in Greece and want to know what to avoid...) until about three days before I came home. The fact that I had it on three days running was probably not a good move though!

There were other less than glowing examples.

It took me until May this year to get back down and those last few pounds off to get to goal. So near and yet so far....

Sorry--I didn't see that was the deadline.

Well, I'm doing much better w/exercise this week. In the last two days I've already gotten in almost as much as I did all of last week.

Kimberly - it is great that the exercise is up. That is great for two reasons - 1/ your health/fitness project will benefit as is obvious and 2/ your routine with May must be improving and allowing you to get back to nearer your normal self. I cannot think when prior to May you ever dropped an exercise point... You are the girl that walked 40 miles in one day last year for goodness sake! I DO NOT get outwalked by too many people - and I know from having been out walking with you that you do not go slow when out there!!!

I always think that the exercise helps me to stay focussed with my food too - so hopefully that will happen for you too. Temptation is never easy....

Give May a hug from me! I have just noticed May is a whole quarter years old!!!!

Just wanna pop in and say how great I feel which all this fruit and veg. When I first upped my intake I went through that horrible bloated stage but I think my bodies finally adjusted and I feel great :D I'm gonna use my holiday as an excuse to each a large variety of different fruits vegetables aswell and include some with each meal like I normally do now.
Hope everythings going well guys :D

Okay, everyone, I'm off for a few days.

It will be a struggle to keep up with the water and the 5-a-day while I am gone. But I will give it my best shot.

The annoying thing is that, after a week of good weather, it is forecast to rain every day during my trip (during which I had planned to do some serious hiking), and will clear up again as soon as I return home.

Feh.

Hope everyone stays on track and does well!
