Sport Sugar ok?

Well today I started my diet for bulking up and I was eating some oatmeal. It tasted horrible however no flavor at all, I put some cinnamon and still no flavor so I added a bi of sugar. Im wondering if its ok if I add sugar in my oatmeal. Or what are other alternates for sugar.
 
try honey, or fruit- any type of berries will sweeten up a bowl, plus you get vitamins and anti-oxidants that way, not just empty calories.
 
One, IMO, should stay away from refined white sugar like it has a disease.

But, no it will not kill you......but lets see if some opinion that it can lead to all types of problems---where you wish you were dead ;)

And, yes, I hate friggen refined white sugar, if you havent guessed by now, lol. And, its OUT of my diet: Period.

But a little will not hurt you now and then.......;)

yeah, the word "can" is pretty central here. It's not like having a bit of sugar on your oatmeal will leave you at great risk for any of those. Sometimes people get a bit extreme, and that's fine, but that doesn't mean not being extreme will kill you.
 
Well......he, he....I dont eat refined white sugar, but I choose "splenda" as the alternative.......uh......I prefer a chlorine molecule attached to the sugar molecule as an alternative.....hmm.......(insert huge rolling "blood shot" eye balls here), and I am still walking around.....same can be said about refined white sugar too. :) LOL.

Organic pure can sugar anyone....I cant find it here locally.

I tend to get my fructose from natural sources (if one can call it that now days, with the pesticides used in the growing periods and is sometimes absorbed though the skin of the fruits we eat). In other words, I put bananas, stawberries, blueberries, etc, in different combinations with my oatmeal to get some fructose, usually a few hours before a workout. I usually have grapefruit after a workout and/or fresh watermelon, coupled with fresh ground 99% lean turkey patties (approximately 120 calories, 28 grams of protein and 1g fat, per pattie).

There are good forms of fructose and bad forms, IMO. I think most would agree the HFCS, is a bad form of fructose, and most would agree getting fructose from various types of fruits are better. Additionally, "natural cane sugar" does have "some" nutrient value, but when the refinary process takes place it strips the already low value it has from it completely.

Dont trust everything sources tell you :p

I'd like to see the evidence, to name a few; that sugar causes depression, hyperactivity in kids haha.

It's pretty obvious whoever wrote that doesn't have much medical knowledge. I'm very suprised they didn't even mention neuropathy, bad eyes, even amputation (indiretly).

But i agree with you Chills, especially about getting fructose from fruits. So yeah little sugar won't hurt, but significant amounts of sugar is toxic and destroys the myelin sheath of nerve cells, diabetes is often diagnosed by eye doctors because they can see the damage to the vessels in the eye. Another practical way which is slightly off topic, is to access the response of the heart rate whilst breating in :eek:

what about simply chosing between fructoses and regular table sugar? I know fructoses won't spike insulin that much.. but then again, if liver glycogen is full, it's full. Though I usually eat oatmeal in the morning..
 
I used to get organic supplies, including sugars, for brewing beer. I do not drink much beer any more as I prefer wine with a meal, but it is easy to find online and at a quality brewer supply store.

Simply speaking there are better sources for fructose, than the aweful and unhealthy refined white table sugar. LOL, I am not going to pull the various data pertaining to the "unhealthiness" of refined white sugar, because it is well known, and is generally accepted as being unhealthy in the medical field. Sure a small bit, isnt going to suddenly propel one to a coffin, but I choose to use the better alternatives, IMO. I "want" my blood sugar spiked in the mornings (IMO), as I am going to be pretty active. So, I eat accordingly. I have a good source of carbs coupled with a more so called natural source (when not low-carbing). And, as you know having spiked blood sugar prior to working out isnt a bad idea either. Additionally, we both know that the body is primed for (forms of sugar) after a workout. This morning, for example, I ate my famous (well at least with my 19 year old), Cocoa-Oatmeal bars, with a banana, along with two chicken breasts, and the unflappable and great Natty Peanut Butter :))). I just design my diet and satisify my sweetness cravings by using other sources, other than refined white sugar. But this is just me ;) :)

Chillen you should check out Stevia. I think Splenda is pretty much chemical like the other sweetners. Supposedly Stevia is from a plant. Here's the link if anyone is interested. i purchased it from vitaminshoppe but i noticed the last time i went food shopping that they had it there too.



i also use honey or like the others said adding fruit helps sweeten it up too.

This subject has been touched upon before, on the forum in the past.

I mean most people (well, for lack of arguement) dont realize, that just about everything is so-called natural (it all basically comes from the earth), but what is natural isnt "necessarily" healthy (and this can depend on research and ones viewpoint).

Eat the wrong mushroom, he, he, for example, this is natural isnt it? Some of these an give you a buzzz (shut up :)), kill you, or make you feel like your friggen dead (what ever that feels like ;)). But they are natural nonetheless.

Most of the problems surface when these so called natural items are "mixed and matched" together with another natural item from earth or when formed together from another natural ingredient to form something---new (in the scientific world).

Like with most things in life, there seems to be pros and cons, with most everything. Some are clear cut one way or the other, while others its not so clear. We must make up our minds among the vast amount of information that is more available now then ever before.

Stevia is another example. Accepted by some to be great but not accepted by others to be that great. Which is it? A person makes decision based on tangible and reliable and acurate data--as best as possible.

And, "just for example":


Stevia has its own share of pro and cons dependent on ones view on the matter. I have studied this sweetner as well. It has been used for many, many years by several countries,without any noteable complictions, but still FDA will not aprove it, LOL (like FDA is reputatable in the first place):

Stevia or Agave Nectar are your best, most natural alternatives to evil sugar and/or more evil artificial sweetner.

As a matter of fact, as I read this, I am enjoying my plain oatmeal with Organic Blue Agave. Yum.
 
I mostly use honey like for my oatmeal and such. I do however put sugar in my coffee. I guess I'll deal with the cornucopia of health problems that could stem from that. LOL
