Still struggling to lose weight since 2011

Ok so in 2011 i got sick of having a big round belly, man boobs, and big love handles. I went on the slim fast diet and made sure to have a calorie deficit where my calories in were less than my calories out everyday. I walked for 40 minutes everyday as well. After 8 months on this plan, i still had the big round belly, man boobs, and love handles. The strange part was that my friends and family told me i lost so much weight and that i was skinny, but then i would take off my shirt and show them my body and they were surprised to see all this roundish fat i have on my body. I dont know what i am doing wrong, i just cant seem to flatten my stomach, chest, and love handles. I have been on and off of diets since 2011 and nothing works, I am so frustrated. Sometimes I feel like i fail at all my goals. Here is a pic of my current body.View attachment 25397

Hi royal knight and welcome.
Not sure what else you've tried apart from slim fast but i guess you're here for some alternative suggestions. Others may have different opinion here but I favour not using any meal replacements but switching to low sugar diet in combination with strength training. I've done a few posts suggesting this method because for myself and others I've worked with, I've found this to be a great way of getting results. Strength training is what will change the shape of your body and determine how you look once the fat is gone and nutrition is what will get rid of the fat. Dieting without doing any training is a good way of losing weight rather than just fat. If you're doing your strength training while dieting then you should not be losing muscle, just fat. Happy to chime in with some tips if you like but I'd suggest changing your nutrition for a week to get into the swing of it and then starting to train the next week. A full body strength training workout every other day, would be a good place to start. Good luck buddy

I have managed to lose 77 pounds, but I am still not happy with my body. I still have fat on my love handles, belly, and chest. I am trying to get a flat stomach, but I am so sick of dieting and exercising to be honest. I also feel like I have hit a plateau. I am not going to give up just yet, but I would like some advice.before and after.png

what is your ht/ wt/ age now? how much control do you have on your diet. do you cook much? ... at all? have you ever done the research to see what sort of simple sugars/ carbohydrates you might cut back on? if you drink alcohol, ... about how much, about how often?

what did you do to lose the 77 lbs? ... basic "eat less, move more" type dieting? any health concerns?

A 77 pound loss is great, and you look a whole lot better! You should be happy with your progress, you really should.
I am so sick of dieting and exercising
I know that feeling, but I have come to understand that if I want to keep my weight loss off I will have to be dieting and exercising for the rest of my life. The reality is if you go back to what you were doing the weight will just come back. It took me a while to understand that, and I am still trying to be happy accepting it. That said you may want to change things, Flyer asked some good question.

To get more out of the forum I suggest you start a diary (here: https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ ) tell us more about yourself and start posting your food and exercise regularly. If you do that you will get a lot of advice and support.

Best of luck to you!

sorry for the late reply. I eat only one meal a day, but it is a big meal. I go for 40-60 minute walks everyday. I do one set of push ups until failure everyday, and lastly i do planks until failure everyday.

Stable isn't bad and a plateau since August does not mean you aren't losing fat. If you have kept the calorie deficit up you are and the weight will follow. My advice is to just stick with it, we all have ups and downs, your downs will be coming!

Best of luck to you!

So... how big is a big meal? How many calories? I´m sure you´re aware that having lost 77 pounds you´re now burning a ton less energy than you were used to, even with the extra exercise.

Seems to have some stubborn excess weight that likes hanging around common parts of the body. Ever tried increasing the alkaline balance of your body. Lemon water - ginger - cucumber mix : atleast hour/half before your first meal. Workout before breakfast helps the body detox and Alkaline water work to get rid of those radical fat cells. Use a green/plant based nutritional shake to replenish and actually guard against fat gatherings around targeted areas. And avoid eating after 10pm. Of course there's more, but we'll start here.

one meal a day/ well that's part of the problem. the body does not work like that. It takes fuel to start a fire. you wanna keep burning fat and supplying your body with protein and other nutrition to produce results. you definitely need to add to your exercise regime. Your doing what's called burn outs. You do this after your regular 5 reps of 15 on each exercise. Your actually stressing your body instead of having a nice workout. Cant rush results so proceed with knowledge and focus. You'll see and feel the difference.

Oh dear... Let's see:
- Your body is detoxing 24/7. It's best at it during rest but unless your ingesting lead or something it gets the job done without outside help. And if you're ingesting lead outside help won't be enough.
- Alkaline water is an expensive way to up the pH of your stomach for a short while but otherwise just makes your pee basic. You literally die if your internal pH goes up or down a tiny little bit so your body doesn't allow you to mess with its settings.
- What the hell are radical fat cells?
- No shakes, smoothies, or miracle cures will influence where you store your fat. Being (mentally or physically) stressed makes it more likely for the fat to be stored as visceral fat but again outside "tricks" won't help you there. You'll have to sleep enough, drink enough water, and find ways to relax like everyone else.

The Body does detox 24/7 but the function is not as effective or equal when it comes to an individuals adverse conditions or contributing factors. Various issues bring variable results. That's why people respond differently to diets, exercise, and other means of controlling ones weight and overall body fat retention. What I label as radical is the fat that settles in places like upper thighs, back, and around the lower waistline. It diminishes then returns at will. While other people have no issues but their belly. Shakes and smoothies are not given the credit due. Nutrients are vital but what good are they if the body can't absorb them. Its not tricks and magic, it's Nature. And an alkaline environment supports better overall function of the body as a whole. Realize there is no one blue print that works for everyone. And before you dismiss or accept any advice, Do your own in-depth research. We don't care where the fat is stored we wanna know how to get rid of it and keep it off. Few will argue but knowledge is "Radical" ...

Understand the body never gets a full detox on its own. If that were the case we wouldn't have a lot of the medical conditions we have today. These are submerged until we get up in age. then all of a sudden, high blood pressure, diabetes, colon cancer, this pill, that pill. And by nature, we are provided so many resources to help the body eliminate toxins. Or should I say, eradicate and detox. Lastly, If you drink alcohol and take Tylenols for the headache in the morning, over time you will see the effects of your body Not being able to detox so well. But it does a pretty good job? Good health is about thinking on an "over time" basis and remembering what you are made of. Then supplying your body what it's lacking. So you grab a steak, I'll mix me a shake.

The main reason why we get a lot more cases of certain diseases is that many more of us grow old than they did 100 years ago. And if you´re drinking alcohol to the point of getting a painful hangover regularly your best bet isn´t to do a detox but to stop ingesting such a large amount of neurotoxins. Much more efficient.
I very rarely eat steak, so let´s leave that for someone who really enjoys it, but I´ll pass on the shake as well and have a full meal instead. Ya know: with veggies, protein, and complex carbs. Stuff to chew on so my body will know know I´ve eaten and will stay satiated for a while.

oh and yes, there are scientific studies that prove a lot of what I mentioned. For example, there is a treatment used by doctors (scientists) called TPN .. that's when you have a severe nutrient deficiency and they want you to recover as quick as possible. The patient is at high risk of total shutdown. They administer TPN which is a bag of Liquid (like a shake) that contains all vital nutrients. All of them. Its absorbed quickly and feeds the body. a patient can actually live off TPN alone without eating by mouth. I know its fact because I administered the treatment to a patient for ten weeks. Nothing by mouth. And reading the ingredients of the bag I noticed these are all nutrients we get from eating on a regular basis. That is , If you're conscience of what you're eating. You have to think balance and elimination. In balancing, you're gonna take in more fulfilling and digestible food. Elimination will free you from the foods that actually slow you down, and as you explore you'll realize which ones do.

By the way I would never skip a meal and replace it with a shake. I might have a shake with my meal or part of a snack. I'd have a nice dinner with an all berry shake. Nothing big and fancy just to fill in the gaps the meal doesn't tap so well. Id rather have that than take supplements. They put talc in some I've discovered. But yeah guys, get the full boat of nutrients and immune support in ways you enjoy. But know that it takes a change in habits and everything you need is already there. Discover and Grow .. Blessings:waving::sleeping:

TPN -parenteral nutrition is usually for patients who do not have a functioning gastrointestinal tract or who have disorders requiring complete bowel rest. It has a high complication rate and really should not be used as a benchmark for an otherwise healthy individual who is well on his way with his weight loss journey.

Alkaline water is somewhat controversial. There isn’t enough research to support the many health claims made by users and sellers. There are a few small studies which suggest a small benefit, but most of the results are not statistically significant. Although alkaline drinking water is considered safe, it may produce negative side effects.

Ever tried increasing the alkaline balance of your body. Lemon water

lemon juice may make the pH of the urine more alkaline, it does not have the same effect on the pH of your blood. researchers estimate that you’d need to eat the equivalent of 18 pounds (8 kg) of oranges — which have an alkalizing potential similar to that of lemons — all in one sitting to increase your blood pH by just 0.2
