Sparrows Experiment

Get well soon :)

Thanks. I had flu symptoms for only a day! yay! So far our house hasn't really gotten hit with that super yucky flu. Besides the poor sleeping I'm trying to really take care of all of us so we keep that status!

Well I took a much needed 3 days off. It was hard not to go to the gym, but a real relief all the same. I tried to just keep my protein up and stay away from junk. Which I did-for the MOST part

I'm buckling down back to clean eating. I was doing my best, and feeling my best when I was having a cheat meal a week and using the rest of my week as motivation to actually earn it. I guess most of my strictness will be the second half of my day since I still need to do what I've been doing pre/during/post workout.

The biggest news is that I got an awesome road bike and its on its way to me :) I tried out some road bikes this weekend and then found a great used one in new condition. Its a "Giant OCR1". Some other good news is I have a friend who had some spin shoes my size she wasn't using so she gave them to me! I'm wondering how much difference that will make in class...which I'm getting late for so time to go...

Well it was fun. I'll be a little more cool when I can just hop up and clip in easily instead of trying to hunt around with my foot till it clipped. Ha. I didn't notice a ton of difference except on "hills" I had much better positioning for a faster turnover with my legs. Up till now hills have felt awkward and I haven't been able to get the speed up on them cause of the position my feet are in the cages. It was the most intense spin workout I've been in thus far, thats for sure.
B-scoop whey, 1/2 c life cereal
post-2 scoops gatorade, 1 serving vanilla whey blended
lunch-can tuna, 4c dark greens, 1T olive oil, 1T balsamic
snack-1/2c brown rice, 3-4oz sirloin
dinner: kinda blew it here. Nothing was organized cause I was still full. I had a little more sirloin and rice, a bite of my husbands cherry cobbler (at a friends house), 2oz of frozen yogurt and some sugar free hot chocolate. Can you guess what time of month it is
Gym: 1 hour spin
16 min run at 7:30 min mile pace=2ish miles
back/bi/tri weights
After the intense spin I went right up to run pretty hard. I just wanted to get 2 miles in 16 min. I didn't have a lot of time so I tried to maximize it. then did the weights. Didn't feel as energetic as I thought I should, but I was lacking on the carbs this morning.

I don't know how you do as much as you do! You workouts are amazing! I wish I had half your motivation!

Great day today:
5 mile run (took 39 min)
1/2 hr core exercises + 5 full court suicides in the bball courts

B-applesauce/whey
post-2 scoop gatorade/ whey/glutamine
L-chicken/spag. squash
S-whey/flax seeds
D- cheese omelet/tomatoes n cucumbers w/vinegrette

I had an awesome run today. Held 7:30 pace for 3 miles and then did sprint intervals the last 2 miles bouncing between 6:40 pace (for sprint) and 9 min pace (For the recovery). I had a struggle in the last mile but held my form. I feel SO much stronger running, even tho I have hardly been doing it, since doing so much more core work, its phenomenal.

We're doing another simulated triathlon next week. But this time we're using real bikes for the bike instead of spin bikes, and we'll go outside to run instead of the tread. I can't wait.

I was hurting pretty bad after that ambitious run I had yesterday :( I spent much time with ice all day :( my fault. Good news is that my insurance just approved orthotics for me. unheard of. my dr must've done some heavy persuading. so i go for that appt in the middle of the month. Things will change for the better once I have those. in the meantime I'm missing my favorite half marathon this weekend :(

Today was spin and I spent the entire class with one foot clipped in, and the other not. haha. I faked it most of the time but on the hard stuff my foot kept slipping, and I never worked all that hard because of it. oh well. I was exhuasted today anyway. I skipped weights. I tried to do a set and my arms were lead so I just went home. I had ice cream last night and that was a dumb move. Just made me totally lethargic today. Its amazing how much the body will buck when you do something out of the ordinary like that. its like  "what are you DOING". I've found its really just not worth it to "cheat" it only backfires. Tomorrow is March and I have on my calendar "clean eating month" cause I've been so bad in getting back to what I was doing for so long. Its really affecting my energy level during the day.

My kids are all gone for 4 days! They're at their grandmas house. We are living it UP. Today I deep cleaned the whole house and went out to lunch with my husband. it was awesome. Tomorrow we're going skiing at a nearby resort that has discounted lift tickets on Thursdays. Fun fun. If I go to tri class before that it promises to be a good swim. I'm happy to get in the water, its been a little while.

Spinning with one shoe clipped and the other not? I'd have to ask the same question... There's no shame in getting yourself properly adjusted, but you as an experienced athlete know that already. It kind of sounds like you need to regroup and refocus - you'll have your fun but you'll get back to your regular routine soon enough.

The day has gone smoothly

I taught the tri class swim technique today. Its my second time and I find it ironic that the class I used to be so "afraid" and intimidated by is now one that is listening to me for swim instruction. :) Its so fun and they are always so grateful. Best of all, I get a free membership out of it :) Anyway, after I did that for an hour and a half I was kinda unmotivated to do my own workout so I just did weights, which have been VERY lacking. I'm still shaking from them! I feel like a weakling :(
I'm borrowing a friends road bike for a 30 mile+ ride tomorrow. I can't wait.

Had the most fun this morning on a 30 mile ride. I was surprised how EASY it was compared to my mountain bike! Did it in an hour and 40 with a bathroom break. SOOOO fun. I'm hooked

Hey girl! :D I miss you! Sorry I haven't been by lately. I see you started on your teaching :)

As always, I love to check out what's on your plate ;) so, how is feta cheese? You make me curious now. I have been hooked on fat free cottage cheese for a while and adding at least 2 TBS to almost every food I eat :D
But I like cheese, so I think I am going to give feta cheese a taste. Which kind you are getting?

hey girl! miss you too! you've been doing a great job!! Well I love to see your ethnic type meals so keep that in your diary and shoot me any recipes you have that you think would be worth trying!
Feta is awesome. its VERY pungent and flavorful and can add zest to anything. My favorite is slicing up super ripe tomatoes drizzling some olive oil and balsamic dressing on top and sprinkling feta on top. yumm. I sometimes get plain feta or the tomato basil kind.
