Sparrows Experiment

Still not feeling great. I've never been sick so long :( I do feel better than yesterday which I guess I can attibute to some antibiotic I had left over from last year :) lol. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do that...but I don't have time for doctors.

I'm not working out today. duh. but I do plan on spinning etc. tomorrow and I'm die hard enough that even if I'm sick I'll be going and it will be a normal week for me as far as that goes. Its New Years. Its a must :) Plus I like watching the people flock to the gym in hopes to solidify their New Years Resolutions...only to find the gym half empty a month later :) I'm attempting a normal healthy diet today instead of the new years eve garbage.

B-1scoop whey in water, 1 scoop fiber, 2 T flax seeds
L- 8 egg whites w/ 1oz mozz. cheese, 1c broccoli
S-15 almonds
D-large salad w/ veggies, olive oil/ balsamic dressing, 4-5 oz chicken, small glass red wine
S-tea with milk....natty butter if needed

I hope you feelin better sparrow :(
Working out with sinus is no fun.. I am amazed that you are up and about to do it! I should learn from you.
Looking at your meal makes me thing perhaps I been eating too much lol  hm.... perhaps I shd cut back a bit and workout a bit more.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! :D

I can attibute to some antibiotic I had left over from last year :)
 I hope it was towards the END of last year (2006...not 2005:eek:)

Funny way to look at it about the people running to the gym and then it being empty =P

I hope you get better soon, Katie. Because we all know that you will never yield to being sick  So hopefully you get better before working out makes you worse!

Happy New Year! :)

Ah ha..wow you know me well!
I did go to the gym today and I feel a thousand times better this morning...before the gym ;)

Spinning was ROUGH. I took a load of kleenex with me because even when I don't have congestion my nose runs a lot when I spin. I don't know why. ha. So I used all that up in the class and there were times I slowed because I felt like I wasn't getting enough air. I think that was just me having not spun for a while and feeling a bit "off" doing it. Overall my morning was a good workout

Full body weights afterwards and I felt very strong:

bulgarian split squats-no extra weight 3x12 each leg alternating
SLDL's 70# 2x12 (I feel like superwoman doing these :))
incline bb press #45 2x12
wide grip rows #45 2x12
decline push ups 2x8
DB press #15 2x12 superset lateral raise #10 2x12
DB bent over rows #22.5 2x12 each arm alternating
stability ball ab exercises 2x12 (I did abs 2 days ago so I stayed light)
lat pulldown 70# 2x12 superset bench dips 2x12 (assisted chin machine was broken)

B- 1 scoop whey in water, 1 scoop fiber ( really didn't wanna eat after last night :()
L-3 c romaine, 1 can tuna, 1T olive oil, 1 piece whole wheat bread
S-1T natty butter on celery
D-bbq chicken (w/o bbq sauce), salad, broccoli, olive oil, olives, balsamic
Don't really feel like eating today so I'll try to get more cals in with the healthy fats.

I hope you feelin better sparrow :(

Thanks Kiria! To you as well :)

Well I'm not sure I'd look to my diet as any sort of model example. On the whole I don't get in enough calories, 1300 on average, which isn't too great. But if you knew where I started from, you'd understand. One of my "resolutions" is to be more balanced, and that goes for calories as well. My aim is to be around 1800 by mid year without any weight gain. Thats why I'm trying to eat so clean...but for now, this works. I normally have plenty of energy and it gives me results.

:D I just need about 1200, since I dont think i workout as rigorous as you. So your meal looks dam good to me.

But, I do look up to your example for execise tho :p
By giving myself no excuses for not doing excercise, and when you do you giving it 100%!!

Well we're all here for that accountability and motivation! Whenever you don't feel like working out all you have to do is type it and SOMEone will get on your butt! Thats why I love hanging out "here" :)

Tonight I totally blew my good record of a day. I was doing so well! Spur of the moment my husband invited my brother and sister in law over for dinner so we still did the bbq and I still ate what I posted, only I had dessert. Although I could have stuck it out and said "no thanks" I didn't want to be the stick in the mud and not join the "celebrating" of the New Year we were having so I had a piece of chocolate cake and some ice cream. crud. Ah well. It was on the whole a very successful eating day. next time I just need to say "no".

It was the holidays, you're entitled to have a cheat snack. I know you didn't want to, but it's not like you can't work it off later.

Good job on everything you do exercise wise and I hope the New Year brings the same.

Yeah its very hard in my house to eat clean. I'm not kidding you. I think for stay home moms especially with all the kid food and being home a lot its a real test of the wills. I mostly just try to eat clean like 90% of the time and allow the few little nibbles that are inevitable during the day, or spur of the moment, like last night. I just try to keep them to a real minimum.

This was today:

B- 1 scoop whey, 1 scoop fiber
L-6 oz grilled chicken, mixed spring salad w/ tomato, dressing (my own: balsamic, small bit of olive oil, garlic and 2 T flax seeds all blended), small orange, bite of chocolate cake, some crystal light lemonade ..so far 60 oz of water.

I'll edit as the day goes. I have no plan. Probably dangerous.
Gym:
The TRI class kicked my butt today. listening to what we were going to do, it sounded almost too easy, doing it was a different story.
*40 min intense spin class-new instructor-she was GREAT
*RIGHT into a 3 mile 8 min mile run (we were working on our "transitions" from one event to the next).
*Right into outside sprints 4x200 yds all out
*core exercises: V-sits, various ab work, planks
I was happy with it all. Spinning was challenging for the second day in a row (and I do it again tomorrow too) but it was pretty short. The 8 min miles were challenging but totally doable. I was thrilled. The sprints were fun, I felt awkward doing it because I never do, but I beat everyone :) my form stinks and the instructor told me so. lol. ah well. always good to have things to improve upon.
good day overall.

Sore today. I knew I would be. Just really tight hams.
Spinning was going GREAT until our instructor got an emergency call from her daughters school :( Not sure what happened but i think it was pretty bad. She bee-lined it out of there. One of us commoners took over ;) it was very interesting!
Weights were a bit tired today but I pushed through. The difference lately seems to be that even when I'm tired my body finds reserves SOMEwhere and I can usually push through whatever block I have. Previously that wasn't the case, I'd have to take days off.

B-skipped it  20oz water gym
postworkout-pure protein bar 20 oz water
L-8 egg whites, 1.5c chopped broccoli, 1/4 avocado, 1/2 tomato
S-1Tnatty butter, 20 oz water
D-tuna can, 4 c spring salad w/ homemade dressing (olive oil, balsamic, 1T nf sr cream), 12 oz water
S-1 scoop whey in water, 2T flax seeds blended, 1/2 lc ww tortilla- I was starving later tonight, that never happens, 10 oz water
I did fitday today just to see where I'm at. This was my breakdown. I felt like I ate constantly today, just not enough. :( at all. I think my carbs are typically this low. Its amazing I can function so well on that.

Tri Class:

1/2 hr cardio bosu ball workout followed by core exercises (this was actually pretty hard!)
1300 yrd swim (very easy for me)

Today was pretty kick back as far as my personal workouts go. The bosu thing was unique and a fun switch and the swim was just a lot less than I'm used to, and aside from a short sprint set-nothing was hard. A good active rest day.
B-1 scoop whey, 1 scoop fiber 20 oz water
L-8 egg whites, 1/2 avocado, 4 c mixed springs, 2T shreaded parm cheese
S-3/4c cottage cheese, 1T natty butter
D-5 oz chicken, mixed springs w/ balsamic and olive oil, 1.5c mixed green veggies
S-tea, 1/2c veggies, 2 oz chicken, 1T PB (yeah random, I know)

I'm totally starving again lately so I need to do something about that. adding the pm snack is my first step.

I think my spinning instructor is getting burnt out on spinning, and it looks like she's going to get into bosu ball stuff. I've used it in a very limited way for balance, but that's about it. An interesting toy to be sure.

Oh yes, for sure. I never regarded it as much more than just a balance toy either but apparently there is TONS to be done with it. When she said "cardio bosu" I thought she was joking :)

Wow, well i ate too much and too late last night and was in a major food hangover this morning. it was bad. I was up long enough to get my kids to school and then fell back in bed. How lazy is THAT?! maybe I'll skip that late night snack afterall and just fit it somewhere else. annoying.

I ate a protein bar jjust now cause I'm too lazy to make anything and after I get my son from kindergarten at noon I'll go to the gym. What a lazy bones I am.

Here is my plan, just cause I know I'll be lazy to post later

B/L-protein plus protein bar 1t pb
"snack" post workout-1 scoop whey in water, 2 T flax seeds, 1T shorbet
dinner: 2c spring salad, 3 oz chicken, 1/4 of an avocado, 1T olive oil, balsamic
snack: bite of top ramen, 1oz ground turkey (kid food, errrrr)

I know I'm super low on cals but I really don't care today. I ate way more than normal yesterday (stuff I didn't post) and although all of it was healthy, I just feel like a total sloth today. I hate the feeling. Its also a monthly thing-double whammy. One day will be ok and I'll be on track tomorrow.

Gym: 15 min eliptical
4 mile run 6.5 pace
walking lunges 1x30 w 20# weight, followed by 2x15 each leg bulgarian split squat
decline push up 2x8 (hard today)
bend DB rows #20 2x12
sitting DB rows #20 2x15
assisted chins/dips 2x12
abs-captains chair, stability ball, planks

I'm trying to increase my running a bit again. I'd like to do the first half marathon I did last year. Its at the beginning of march so theres not a ton of time to train. I'm not going to TRAIN for it, I just need to be atleast able to be running 8-9 miles without dying to do it. I don't really care what time I get, I just want to run it :) My focus this summer is triathlons anyway. I'm narrowing down my events for that, I'm very excited.

Tsk tsk - if you're gonna post your food, you should post ALL of it lol.

In all seriousness though I think those kinds of calorie spikes are good for the body now and again. Keeping it guessing keeps up the metabolism since it will lead it away from starvation mode.

yeah that was my only justifying way of handling it. I got to the end of the day and was just starving and couldn't fill up. I helped the college guys move part of our church warehouse stuff from one property to another last night for 2 hours. A lot of heavy lifting, even they were impressed :) lol. That probably encouraged an appetite. It was just mostly stuff like more natty butter, a ton of veggies, light popcorn, sf apple cider....not bad, just not needed that late at night. :)

hey I've done that too - where I've had my snack (wheat bread with a serving of peanut butter), but my stomach's STILL growling lol... Best to listen to your body and give it healthy things says I. Plus you're probably burning so many calories that this will help you to keep a healthy metabolism.

Birthday party today. I swear there is something to sabatoge at every turn. I've had it with the wishy washy stuff. I want to eat 100% clean and call it good because when I give in even just a little it becomes a pattern and a little becomes a little more until its too much. If its simply not an option I won't eat it. I can do it and I want to try. Starting tomorrow I'm going to try for a week by week challenge with myself. I get my best results when I do this, but I'll need y'alls support :) I think I'll finally start seeing some of my problem spots disappear if I can do this more long term. I also wouldn't mind losing a little. duh.

I did swim today. only 2100 yds but at least it off-set some of the damage.
