Some SERIOUS Advice needed!

Hello everyone, thanks for looking here, and let's see if you can help me out.
Ok I'm 17 years old, weigh about 132 pounds (60 kg) and am 5'6. I'm hoping to look/be a swimsuit model by the end of the year, to launch my plan to take over the world (so to speak :p ). In any case, in order to do that and fulfil my dream i need to lose at least 10 kg, which is about 22 pounds.
So in order to do that Ive been trying to regulate my diet (to little avail...what can I say? I'm a hungry person, also I'm vegetarian so that could be another reason), and have been starting to exercise regularly.
Sad thing is none of this seems to be working. :( Which REALLY is not helping my current state of mind!
In any case, so I've been doing all of that drinking Oolong tea, controlling my calories (attempting) , exercising and so on.
I've been looking around the web and I always come across these sites with MIRACLE WEIGHT LOSS SOLUTIONS! Naturally they dazzle me and i become consumed and inticed by the prospect of perhaps using them.
Now what I want to know and the people I want to speak to are people who have tried these sorts of things- like Zalestrim, Wulong Tea, jenny craig, weight watchers etc etc.
I would LOVE to know what works for you! or if you have tried any of the above if they worked.
Now I'm not looking for any campaigners...grr they just frustrate me.
Anyway PLEASE tell me your stories! I would love to learn from your experiences and hopefully they will help me achieve my dream! ^^
thanks

Hi, Feathers!
There is no short-cut for healthy and permanent weight-loss. Eating less calories than you consume during the day and healthy amount of exercise is the way to do it.
Are you aware that your goal weight of 110 pounds will put you way below the underweight range for a person your height? According to your BMI you're BMI is now 21,3 and at 110 pounds it would be 17,7. The healthy range is considered to be 18,5-24,9.
If you want the professionals at this site to comment on how you could improve your body by diet&exercise please give them the following information (or as much of it that you know) for a start point:
-Stats (age, height, weight, Body fat %)
-Diet (in detail meal to meal, overall daily caloric intake, ratios)
-Exercise routine in detail (cardio/weight training)
-Clear reason and question for the post
-Current and overall goal
-How long you have been doing what you are doing in diet and routine
-If you have any medical problems or injuries we should be aware of
Note also, that there is a lot of information about nutrition and exercise already on this site, so take a look around.
Welcome to WLF, we hope it helps you in your goal of becoming a swim suit model. :)

When I started dieting I wrote down a list of what I was eating and the calories it contained. It helped me control my calories for the day and it also helped me later on when I stopped losing weight and was able to pinpoint my mistakes.
I personally haven't tried any of those plans; I just keep count of my calories and try take in a lot of protein. It is difficult at first but as you make it a routine you don't feel like snacking all the time.
Since you're vegetarian, you should experiment with soy or tofu, which is high in protein and can be found more appealing forms. You can also make some good vegetarian wraps with beans and other fresh vegetables.
Good luck!!

I have tried weight watchers

Hello,

I have used weight watchers, lost 50 pounds. It was not too hard at the time. I guess I wanted to loose it. I have since gained it back, I can list tons of reason why.

The key as it is said many times, you need to want to do this for yourself. If the want is there it will be done so keeping the intake less then the outgo any system will work. I like this free one the best..thanks WLF :)

Now I a trying again. it is harder the second time around. I am mad that I gained it back. But using this site for information adn when needed support is similar to the ww forums and site. If you incorporated fitday.com (which I learned from here) it is so close to being like the other site.

I just started to use fitday on a full time basis and with the graph u can really see where the bad eating is coming from.

As it was stated earlier, you are in the healthy BMI zone so maybe your body is not going to let too much more go but if you do exercise or toning you can get to the model form.

Good luck

Experience with zalestrim

I have tried zalestrim and it worked pretty good for me. I like it because it is made for women unlike the other products which aren't catered esp to women. I have recommended it to my girlfriends and some are also on it now.

Lifestyle alteration is the basis and any thoughts of having permanent weight loss need to be addressed as life long management in order to succeed.

I am trying to lose some weight and my focus is on the value of healthy nutrition, regular exercise and healthy daily habits. So far I lost 30 lb in the period of 3 months.

My exercise choices are walking (60 min), bicycling, treadmill and yoga.

Here are some simple suggestions

Cut the fat!
Basically, these are the processed fats: hydrogenated fats, polyunsaturated oils that have been heated, and fats that are combined with junk carbs.

Cut the carbs!
Basically, junk carbs are low-fiber carbs, like sugar, fructose, flour, cornstarch, fruit juice. For example you should eat the whole fruit instead of fruit juice.

Most people do not need an ultra low calorie diet. But just think what your diet would be like if you dropped the processed fats and the low-fiber carbs. You'd be eating mainly natural proteins, with lots of vegetables plus whole fruits - and the odds are that you would be eating far fewer calories as well. That's the kind of calorie cutting most of us should be doing.

Eat a balanced NATURAL-FOODS diet.
By natural foods, I mean lots of whole vegetable foods for vitamins and fiber; moderate to small portions of meats, fish, seafood, and other animal and protein foods, grilled, stewed or baked; and small portions of fresh whole fruit in season. This is the diet on which for the vast majority of people, makes for optimum health.

Additionally read some healthy diet literature for motivation and have some consistent .

Dieting is not easy and it takes a time. But the most important is to do it in a .

Good luck!

Dieting Tips

1.Write down everything you eat and the calories it contains.

2. Eat only lean protien sources and only complex carbs.

3. Avoid simple carbs like the plague (like sugar, white bread, candy, chocolate, potato chips etc.)

4. Get some high intensity exercise at least 3 times a week

5. Drink plenty of water

6. Avoid food 3 hours before bed

Here are some supplements and programs I've tried:

Nutrisystem - I hated most of the food but if you could stick to it you can lose weight.

Hoodoba - kills the appetite and makes dieting easier...I like it.

Body-For-Life The BEST total fitness program available in my opinion. It's free and they usually have a transformation contest evry year. Check out their website.

1. Well certain fat is good for health but most people get too much fat already. I didn't omit fat neccessarily. I just focused my statement on the right kind of protein and the right kind of carbs.

6. Most people who are trying to lose weight will benefit by not eating before bed. There is no activily to burn the extra calories while you sleep.

If a person is a bodybuilder and trying to GAIN muscle mass sure.....they will eat before bed and sometimes set an alarm to eat in the middle of the night.

Optimally for weight loss you would want to use most of your excess energy before going to bed otherwise fat storgae takes place.

What is unsaid cannot be interpreted as said. :) You made a 6 step guideline but didnt give all the info. No sweat.

However the body doesnt burn calories according to how much you just ate. It burns a certain amount per day, and as such your calories should be goaled (?) for the day. Now if you burn 2500 per day and you eat 5 times per day at 500 calories, you're at zero. This is regardless of time eaten, whether it be 10am or 10pm.

Too many people have conditioned themselves to think that eating before bed will lead to weight gain, its just not true. If you burn 2500 cals/day and eat 2000 cals, with 500 just before bed, you're still at -500.

Im only pointing out that time is not as important as total.

tonymcclellan,
Because your body metabolism goes to zero when you sleep, whatever you eat late, will convert to fat much easier that other times during the day. Which in turn will have a better chance of the body putting on weight.

Metabolism goes to zero???

tonymcclellan,
Because your body metabolism goes to zero when you sleep, whatever you eat late, will convert to fat much easier that other times during the day. Which in turn will have a better chance of the body putting on weight.

Ummm, I really DOUBT that a lot.....

Even though sleeping your heart is pumping, your lungs are breathing, your body is regulating its own temperature and your organs are all doing the same activity they do all day. You may be LESS active physcially, but your body continues to work, and this requires metabolic function, bottom line.

The only time your metabolism is at zero is when you are dead.

Seriously.

In fact, the very act of digestion is a HUGE energy consumer. When I eat late at night it leads to night sweats because my body is working harder than it expects too. So in fact it could be argued that eating late at night INCREASES fat burning potential moreso than just resting on an empty stomach. Its not just bodybuilders who believe this either.

Now that said, eating at night does leave me sweating and unrested the next day, which in the long run affects my overall ability to exercise the next day, therefore hampers my weight loss efforts. So I don't eat at night and have had much better weight loss success since I stopped. But one thing I have learned recently which has made the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE in my weight loss success is simply this, different things work for different people. There is NO set rule or guideline that applies to everyone. Bottom line. Some people never eat at night and are obese, others pig out before bed or in fact, as mentioned, wake up in the middle of the night to eat, and are very fit. Different strokes....

But to say your metabolism is at zero at night is simply not true.

sirant,
What I say is from my own experience, observation and research.

You have to understand that your metabolism is higher during the day, than at night, during the day you are active and moving around, while you are sleeping your body is rejuvenating itself, which in turn is conserving energy till you get up the next morning, which in turn slows your metabolism right down.
This is my opinion, you have the right to agree or disagree.

true... But...

I hate to nit-pick, but you said your metabolism goes to zero, not slows down. That simply and scientifically imposible. Zero metabolism means zero life. Period. Gives new meaning to sleeping like the dead. :)

You are correct, your metabolism does slow down at night, but it does not stop. And I too am speaking from a wealth of personal experience and research. In case you didn't notice, I too do not eat before bed and I too have experiencd much greater results by doing so, so therefore I DO agree with you. A lot of agreement there.

But to say that your metabolism stops when you sleep is false.

To say that the same rules apply for everyone is false.

I DO know people personally that can eat like pigs and go to bed and not gain a pound, yet when I eat before bed I sweat and toss and turn and in fact it does hinder my own weight loss efforts.

Different strokes for different folks. To make blanket statements about EVERY persons metabolism is like saying only 1 kind of diet plan or 1 kind of exercise will work for EVERY person or that only women cry and only men wear boxer shorts.

Do you measure your metabolism at night? Is this how you know this from personal experience? I am only questioning to get your understanding and possible info that I may not know.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, you can eat whatever you want as long as your daily total intake is less than your outtake (if your goal is losing weight). In Sirants case, his body responds to late night eating differently, but it doesnt have anything to do with metabolism.

If you need further info, search Resting Metabolic rate, Thermic effect of feeding, physical activity level, and genetics as it pertains to metabolism.

Very well said Tony.

You can't make something out of nothing!!

Wow, I wish I was around when this thread was going on. It's loaded with all the myths that so many believe. Even the old "can't eat at night b/c metablism drops so much" was pulled out.

tonymcclellan,
Because your body metabolism goes to zero when you sleep, whatever you eat late, will convert to fat much easier that other times during the day. Which in turn will have a better chance of the body putting on weight.

The basal functions of our metabolisms account for the majority of energy expenditure.

Guess what.

While we sleep, basal functions still occur.

Unless sleep = dead in this context.

MOST people when eating at night are pushing their calorie content for the day way over the edge.

It's not like they have 6 meals planned out at 300 calries for each meal and will have EXACTLY their needed calorie intake fulfilled at their LAST meal RIGHT before bed.

Most people when they eat before bed are INDEED eating EXCESS calories (that WILL turn to fat)
and therefore should AVOID eating before bed.

Take into account who your audience is. Anyone who is having trouble with weight or wanting advice for losing weight should NOT be eating before bed.
