Socks, any ideas?

I'm not 100% sure it's my socks but it may be. I have been jogging more lately in preparation for a few 5k's in the near future. What socks would you recommend? I'm actually developing rubbed skin/almost blistered areas on the inside of my left foot on the ball of the foot.

It may be the shoes too. Could it be that the toebox/front portion of the shoe is too big. The problem is much better if I remember to really tighten the lower laces on the shoe. In fact, today, as I was doing my 3 minute walking warmup I remembered to tighten them and they were OK. I'm currently wearing Nike Maxairs that I got on sale at footlocker for something like 60 bucks. They've been a pretty good running shoe but I'll have to get a new pair if I can't come to terms with this problem.

Go and get fitted for a good pair. You wont regret it. As for socks, you cant go past thorlos.

I echo the good shoes. I generally don't wear socks so I'm not sure.

It could be the seam of your sock. Turn your socks inside out. Most running socks are practically seamless.

You could use a bit of crazy glue or duct tape on that area of your foot. Be sure to let the crazy glue dry before you put that sock on. :)

Thanks! I'm actually going to look around today and see what I can come up with. I'll be in Tulsa in about a week so and will go to a running store and see what they have to say. I was fitted with a pair of New Balance shoes a couple of years ago and had no trouble with the rubbing.

Thanks for the super glue/tape suggestion. Earlier this week I used some paper tape on the rubbed area and it seemed to help quite a bit. That may be the solution until I get the new shoes and socks. Thanks again, Greg

Like Sparrow and other triathletes, I don't use socks anymore, but I was having some friction issues myself. I started using Bodyglide between my toes and that alleviated the problem.

I actually ran without socks one day and didn't have a problem. Maybe that's the key as long as my shoes fit well.

Well Mary, it was actually by accident. I had packed all my gym stuff except socks and then got in the mood to jog as my cardio for the day.

wow running without socks kills me. I need them no matter what.

If you run without them for short periods of time and build up the distance, your feet have a chance to harden up where they need to. I actually run with socks unless I'm doing a short course event. I'd rather waste the 15 seconds it takes for me to get them on rather than the greater loss potential from discomfort.

I bought a pair of Asics GT2130 shoes today after being fitted for them as well as a pair of Barega (?) enduro socks. I'm dying to go run tonight but its my bicycle night and I have to be disciplined. I WANNA RUN!!!!

When I used to do long distance running I wore socks called 'Second Skin', they're basically two pairs of socks sown together, the inner sock is smooth and doesn't create friction against your foot or the other sock preventing blisters and heat being created. Not sure if you can still buy them though (I'm talking about 10 years ago), try Googling it.

Alternatively, just wearing 2 thin pairs of socks will be better than just the one

No socks = shoes get smelly faster

No socks is like a fertile breeding ground for all sorts of nasty stuff, and once shoes take-on that odor, you can never get it out! Not wearing socks is like not brushing your teeth....you can only get away with it for so long.

Not to mention how some of the toe nails can turn yellowish, get thick and you NEVER get rid of that unless your willing to take a drug that can affect your liver and has potential side-effects!

I like these, very comfy. Like running on clouds.

Balega-Enduros Amazon sells them. $10.00.

MG

You got that right! I bought a pair when I bought my running shoes. I was hoping to find some that I liked as well that aren't 10 bucks per pair. I did find some brand at Academy sports called "bcg". They are very similar to the Balega Enduros and, tax and all $6.50 for 2 pair. I'll keep tabs on how they hold up compared to the Balega's and make my next purchase based on that!

I was wondering why my feet hurt yesterday after going 5k. I realized that I didn't put the insoles back in after washing those bad boys.

We'll bounce back G8R. There's not a lot of quit in either one of us!
