So, here I am. Trying to lose Weight.

Getting Started

I agree with Ronbell, make sure you're getting in your protein. As women, we LOVE our carbs and well, in truth we often sacrifice balance because we're grabbing foods that we crave and are convenient. If you're getting in a healthy amount of protein at each meal (even in your snacks) and limiting any type of processed carbs to about 40%, you should be fine.

Think about whole foods, the foods that nature created. The more we stray from nature's food options, the more our body struggles with utlizing it properly. You are definitely off to a good start. Remember, it takes a long time to figure out what path you need to take for long-term success. But you've got plenty of support!

Great job!

T-Bone is not as lean, but not so fatty that I'd stress about it. I wouldn't worry about the pork chops either - they're certainly nowhere near bacon's fat content! Buffalo is leaner than the equivalent beef (generally) and I find it quite tasty. But it's definitely not the bargain alternative. Which is why I haven't had a buffalo ribeye since some time last year :D

And yeah, groceries can be expensive. Buying in bulk can help - CostCo is my friend with it's $3.29/lb sirloins! Truth told the main reason I go with sirloins over ribeyes or T-Bones is price and not health. But... have I mentioned that I like steak. :p

Okay, so this is my first time in a weightloss forum. I thought, maybe this might help me with my mindset, and motivation to shed this stubborn, both fat before, baby, and stubborn fat after having my baby four months ago. I am stumped. I lost all the baby weight, plus some, then it climbed right back up to five pounds over where I started. I got a Depo shot in December, I started gaining serious weight after that, so I don't know whether that messed up my hormones or something. They may not have been back to normal after having a baby. But, I will not get anymore shots. I've started exercising, at least 30 minutes every other day. I'm eating oatmeal in the morning, and snacking on my raw veggies again. I'm not depriving myself too much, except smaller portions of healthier food that I know I already like. I've decided not to buy soda for the house. I have increased my water intake by 16.9 once bottles at 3x a day so far. That's good for me, I don't drink water. My sweet tooth is being satisfied by low fat yoplait yogurt, which I love. Sometimes I dip pretzels in it. So tell me, am I off to a good start?

Any ideas to help? Thanks All!

First of all, you had a baby. Your body went through some drastic changes during your pregnancy and it's going to continue to go through changes even after your pregnancy. Just keep working at it and the weight will come off...eventually. It wasn't put on overnight and it's not going to come off overnight either. So, just keep at it.

Secondly, there's a whole entire section here at the forum that is dedicated for mothers. I would recommend looking at some of the threads in there. Maybe you'll get some good advice there, from women who have been, and are going through, the same situation that you are.

Hey!!! help for diet

hey!!! Njoyabl, I've done research when I was trying to lose some extra weight, and I came accross canary seed milk from Mexico. I ordered it, and it was excellent, not only did it lower cholesterol levels, but it also cleaned my pancrease and liver and kidneys! I felt kind of swolen the first time I used it, but after a few days I felt a lot lighter and overall better. It was soo good I decided to become a distributer of it myself!!!

hey don't worry

Nicki, thanks for the advice. I think maybe my oatmeal option may have to change. I eat the flavored oatmeal by quaker. Would this be considered processed carbs? I mean a lot of them. Sometimes I eat this twice a day when I'm running low on my food options and money, but I have plenty of this oatmeal and I love it. I hope I'm not messing up by consuming it. I usually eat the peaches and cream or strawberry. I ate this once and lost a great amount of weight eating this in the morning, wheat bread with turkey and colby jack cheese sandwich in the afternoon, and lean meat, usually with brown rice for dinner.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check this forum out.

On the oatmeal - I eat Quaker oatmeal fairly often, but I go for the "Weight Control" version which has added fiber and protein, and I often add whey protein isolate to make it more protein. However, oatmeal itself is just oats rolled flat, and maybe pre-cooked in water and then dried out again - so processed carbs would come more from the extras, as in sugar and any other flavoring is added to your packets.

I need to research whey protein. I've seen that a lot around this forum but not sure exactly what it is and does to your body. I have alot of muscle, so when I gain weight, I tend to look bulky, I don't look my weight at all. I'm worried about bulking up too much before I burn the fat, as I've never been this big before. In the past, I always lost a lot of fat, and then weight trained, but I never experienced using protein supplements. Is it tasty, disgusting, or has no affect on taste?

I'll look for the weight control, just hope they have some flavors I'll enjoy. I am also considering going to regular oats, and just flavoring with cinnamon and splenda. How boring.

These programs don't focus too much on exercise, however they get into a lot detail about the food and "science" behind losing weight.
Like calories in vs, calories out?

Like I said earlier when I saw these books I was confused on what to do because they didnt look to promising. So I told myself I would go ahead and try one out.
Because logically that makes a whole lot of sense. If I think something looks shady and unpromising, I'll be sure to run out and buy it next time...

...even though I noticed the program cost 50 dollars, I also know I've spent a lot more money from hundreds of other products that haven't worked.
Now your just being silly.

Lastly, and the best thing after two weeks I lost 25 pounds just from doing the little things they told me about and remember this isn't from exercising either.
I call shenanigans.

All I have to say is give these products a chance just like every other product you're going to wind up trying...
Because were such desperate fat asses we must buy every weight loss product that comes on the market?
Now your just being insulting.

Next time you try to come on a weight loss forum to peddle your wares, at the very least, try not to suck at it! Take some pride in what you do. Geez...

What are you talking about? I know this has nothing to do with my thread.

Questioning some things.

Today is a bad day. I woke up late, so me eating started late, and I don't really have the sources I need. I usually get into work fairly early and go to the kitchen to get my boiled eggs for my breakfast, and lunch depending on what I am having. I get milk for my oatmeal 1%. I get some cucumbers, sometimes broccoli, and fruit and things. I work in a prison, so it is really hard to run out and get food, or it is such a hassle about what we can bring in because of packaging.

I have not been to the store based on comforting a friend because of a loss, hospital visits because of two family members, and having to find the time to get my school assignments done. My baby is very demanding these days, I don't think he feels well, and my 6 year old needs me pay him some attention too.

So here is what I did today. Tell me what you think.

10:40 am (late for work)
1 multi-vitamin
- 1 cup coffee, no calorie sweetner, non-dairy creamer

12:35 pm
1.5 oz of baby carrots
6 apple slices
1cup whole grain honey nut cheerios with 1% milk
1 bottle of water (20oz)

1:30 pm
4 nekot cookies

That's it so far. My plans for this evening are as of right now:

3:30 pm
1.5 carrots (bag left)
1 orange
1 slice of toast (wheat)
1 bottle of water

6:30/7:30 pm maybe 8 depending on time I get home and cook time.

oven baked chicken w/ onions, 95% fat free cream of mushroom sauce
mixed veggies
1 bottle of water

Exercise:
30 minutes of eliptical
house cleaning and speed walk around the complex after taking out the trash.

I'm actually thinking about another cup of coffee the same way right now because I am so sleepy.
Question is, I haven't had quality protein today, will that harm my metabolism?

The quick and dirty answer is that one day isn't going to hurt you. However, if 'one day' turns into several times a week there could be issues. Although technically the protein isn't for your metabolism, it's for retaining muscle.

Update:

I haven't weighed myself. I did well yesterday, my dinner option change though. Instead i ate turkey and mozerella on whole wheat with a little of light miracle whip and mustard. I didn't get the chance to workout, my baby wasn't feeling very well.

Today, I feel mentally and emotionally drained. I have a lot of things going on in my life and I feel as if, I need to eliminate some of those bad factors, or else, I may never even begin to hit my milestone. People are some of those factors.

hey, just wanted to say thanks for passing by my diary :) it's so nice to be on a forum where everyones supporting each other, this journey is just so long and freakin hard to go on alone.

sorry to hear your baby isn't feeling too well. and sorry to hear your not feeling to well either...i know what you mean about being mentally and emotionally drained...and unfortunately that's what ends up manifesting itself in the food i eat (at least in my case), when i'm sad, i eat, when i'm happy, i eat, when i'm stressed, i eat...which is how i've ended up where i am now. so i really have to make a concious effort to make my emotions not tie into what i eat and it's difficult as heck! don't know if that makes sense lol!

anyway, just wanted to wish you all the best on your weight loss journey :grouphug:
