So, here I am. Trying to lose Weight.

Okay, so this is my first time in a weightloss forum. I thought, maybe this might help me with my mindset, and motivation to shed this stubborn, both fat before, baby, and stubborn fat after having my baby four months ago. I am stumped. I lost all the baby weight, plus some, then it climbed right back up to five pounds over where I started. I got a Depo shot in December, I started gaining serious weight after that, so I don't know whether that messed up my hormones or something. They may not have been back to normal after having a baby. But, I will not get anymore shots. I've started exercising, at least 30 minutes every other day. I'm eating oatmeal in the morning, and snacking on my raw veggies again. I'm not depriving myself too much, except smaller portions of healthier food that I know I already like. I've decided not to buy soda for the house. I have increased my water intake by 16.9 once bottles at 3x a day so far. That's good for me, I don't drink water. My sweet tooth is being satisfied by low fat yoplait yogurt, which I love. Sometimes I dip pretzels in it. So tell me, am I off to a good start?

Any ideas to help? Thanks All!

You're having a very nice start.. By knowing what u want, starting well at deciding what u're going to eat and what u won't eat.. Just follow ur own plan first, and stay away from carbo ;)

well, carbs aren't the enemy...really focus on portion control and get in that protein and fiber :) Are you keeping track of your cals in some kind of journal?

Carbs are stored in fat. Fat is stored in the liver. Protein isn't stored anywhere. Focus on what your body needs, and yes, your deficit can come from carbs.

Eat protein at every meal, with a small amount of fat. Eat carbs, but it shouldn't take up more than 40-50% of your daily intake.

I'm really not sure on how to do the portion control thing, yet, I am eating much healthier and try to eat a carb and protein with every meal. I do not keep a journal, although, maybe I should. Thanks.

Here's the thing, how on earth do you count calories if you don't even know how many calories a particular food is worth? Like a meal that it cooked, how do you go about controlling that? I bake nearly all my food, chicken, steak, everything, but how am I supposed to know?

Thanks, I figured I need to start with something I have no problem living with, and then modify myself from there with this as a lifestyle change, hopefully I'll see some progress and that will get me more motivated.

Update on my progress:

I'm feeling pretty good today. I'm not sure if I've actually dropped the weight, because I am trying to not be obsessed with the scale, but I can tell that my clothes are beginning to fit better. Looking in the mirror, I can see that my love handles don't hang as much, and the space between my belly and my hips seems to be tighter. I am beginning to get to that point where I have to make myself eat, because I just feel fuller, or not as hungry. I did over indulge a little last night, but I don't feel so bad as I have been keeping with my workout.

I'm not absolutely consistent with my type of workout, but I am working out. It is just whatever I feel like doing that day, or if it has been a long day, I choose what I can deal with and get it in. I love oatmeal, and am able to stick with it as my breakfast along with two boiled eggs (no yolk) every morning. I tend to skip breakfast when I am home. I know I shouldn't and I am working on that. Anyway, just wanted to give an update. i will post befores, but only once I have some progress pics to show. LOL, sorry, I just need something to say, "hey, I'm looking much better!" Thanks guys.

Alright! That's what I like to hear. You just keep up the good work. You already see and FEEL the progress.

two boiled eggs (no yolk) every morning.

You should eat the yolk, or maybe at least one of them. Yes, a lot of the fat and cholesterol is in the yolk, but so is most of the protein and protein is very important if you are trying to lose weight. Of course, if you get a lot of protein in other ways, then ignore me.

Glad to hear you already feel a difference!

I think you're off to a great start. Just start adding more things into it. Walking, manually doing things, using the stairs, stuff like that will add up over the long run. As long as you're moderately increasing things, you'll do great

My personal advice is to avoid carbohydrates and consume little fats; and try to increase the intake of protein. Eat healthy snacks such as Apple or Pear when you are hungry. And carry out aerobic exercises 3 days a week; on non-consecutive days.

Thanks for all the great advice. I think the thing that I am more amazed at is my energy. I have much more energy, and I actually anticipate working out some days, like yesterday. It was nice outside, and I just started my gym membership, even though we have one where I live, I really need to utilize their day care services.

Yesterday, i was doing an intense 46 minute workout to hip hop abs, whew. I used to be able to handle that no sweat. I got through most of it, sometimes having to go low impact and then picking it back up. At about the last 11 minutes, my four month old wasn't having anymore time away from me. I have to admit, i was a little relieved! Once I layed him down, I finished up with a trip to take the trash out and 4 laps around my apartment complex. I figured, this should make up for it. I walk pretty fast even when i don't speed walk, so I know I made up for something.

I am getting in more protein than I mention. I love steak, I'm sorry, that is something that I have to have, but I have cut back how often I eat it. I am eating on skinless chicken breast and veggies at night. I eat the sirloin steak mainly now. Sometimes I do the lean cuisines. I workout before I eat, and try to walk sometime after I eat, and don't sit around on my butt. I roll around with the kids, and get a couple runs up and down the stairs (try to). Eating alot of carrots, broccoli and cucumbers raw. Yogurt of course, oranges every so often, got to build up my fruit.

Why is steak bad? I think sirloin is less fat than chicken thighs ;)

It's probably more important to eat plenty of fibrous veggies than to cut out your steaks :D And steaks definitely taste better than lean cuisine ;) Then again the only frozen meal I've ever actually liked the taste of was the ham & cheese hot pockets. ... So maybe I'm not a good judge ;)

Although I've found now I can get frozen tilapia at CostCo and put some lemon, salt & fake butter spray on it, nuke for 3-4 minutes and be good to go.

I know that there is good lean steak. I think that I eat too much of it though. I've always been told that alot of red meat isn't good for you, and you know what? I'm not very fond of chicken. Must be that phobia of eating it so much when I was growing up. So, i"m finding different ways to cook it, and I am the only one who likes the white meat, so that's a small problem. I don't know, but I feel like I have fallen off since the 17th. I did workout saturday morning, this time I went to the gym. But I haven't been to work and my eating habits have been non existent. I am taking an antibiotic that seems to be making my sick???? So I'm groggy and feeling terrible and with that i am craving comfort food. Not in moderation, it is a constant battle.

I'm back to work today but feeling horrible. I am going to try and get to the gym this afternoon. Meanwhile, i'm still trying to figure out how to KICKSTART my metabolism. Well, I won't be buying anymore wine for a while. If I'm going to do this, I need to lay off the Moscato.

Yeah, being sick is a pain. And you don't want to eat TOO little - you want enough to fuel your recovery, but not so much it takes weeks to burn the extra off.

I wouldn't worry so much about the red meat unless you have issues with high iron - kicking the wine is probably a bigger benefit ;) Red meat was vilified primarily for the fat content, but if you're getting leaner cuts like sirloin it's not really an issue. I also love my steaks :D Although I am trying to add in more fishes just because of the nutritional content. If you can afford it, I also really like buffalo. I don't buy it all that often due to the expense though.

Buffalo? Interesting, I'm not sure bout that lol. So what about T-bone, is that pretty lean? My freezer is full of them because everyone in my home love them. My son loves pork chops, I threw them in the oven last night, and still managed to not touch them. I haven't been doing so well getting to the gym since I hadn't been feeling well and don't want to cause a total relapse. I do need to get more raw veggies, but seriously, groceries are so expensive these days!
