Sit ups and eliminating Love Handles

I have not done any exercising in over three years. And although my weight has kept fairly at the same weight give or take a 5ibs difference. I've had for a while now a mild case of love handles, as in there not severe. What exercises can I do to eliminate love handles ? What sits up are best I can do to keep my stomach trimmed, (as I'm not looking for a wash board stomach) that don't require any equipment that I'd have to purchase ?

Stop doing sit ups. Start eating right.

Spot reduction is impossible. This means that working one area of your body will not reduce the amount of fat in just that area. You need to exercise all-around and eat better.

What I'm eating is causing the the mild love handles ? The reason why I bought up the sit up is I'm looking to focus in just on the stomach area so I can reduce some loose fat, I have and I don't want it to become a bit stomach when my lifestyle changes very soon.

In case you missed it, let me clarify. You can't decide you want fat on your stomach gone and somehow pick it off from there. You must lose total body fat, and based on your genetics, it will come off where it will (for the most part). For most males, unfortunately, the abdominal area is the last place for fat to go.

And yes, it is probably largely due to a bad diet.

You're right you can't decide that you just want the fat on your stomach gone. Although that doesn't mean that you can't work on just your stomach area. How you put it, is unless you do a full body exercise workout which is of course is the best route, you can't phase in exercises one at a time for each part of the body.

Which brings me back to my original question. Are there any sits up one could do without equipment that help tighten the stomach?. I know for myself the foods that I'm eating that probably are causing this, as I don't eat a lot and I don't eat red meat or chicken so it's easier for me to target the problem. My diet is not consisting of being a trash can, just the wrong choice of foods.

Everyone’s stomach muscles are tight already. but most have fat on them and we can't see that. Yeah you can do crunches and leg lifts to make them stronger (also compound movements like squats). But it won't look tight untill you lose the layer of jiggly fat that covers them. The fat makes them look loose.

You would be better served running for 30 min and dropping fat quickly than to focus on cruches and other ab movments for 30 min.

If what you are eating is causing you stress, then yes, it is trash.

You came here to ask and learn, right?

Let me repeat this. DIET IS MOST IMPORTANT :D. That is priority number one for sure. And I will answer your question. Yes, there are good ab exercise, and none of the are the standard crunches. Woodchops, Hanging knee/leg raises, lying leg raises, reverse crunches, planks, side planks, weight decline crunches, and cable crunches are all good. Lying on your back and doing 100 crunches, as I imagine is what you're thinking, is not only not too great for your abs, but it's worse for your back.

You will be surprised at what exercises that aren't directly core emphasized like crunches do to make your core look WAAAAYYYY better. Example, deadlifts and more importantly, squats. Even just doing them, you'll see marginal gains in your core. It will also reveal how WEAK it is.

I agree with what is being said. Therefore putting diet aside what stomach exercises could I do that won't ruin the back, as I know over time there has been many but some can ruin your back.

Something in which I will start to slowly see results in a few weeks. I plan to start slow as it's been a few years and hopefully we can agree that starting to take on too much too fast can lead to disaster by body pains and aches. The vast amount of exercises out there, is what lead me to this question. You also suggest that running will make the loose fat disappear ? Is there anything else I could to do loose the loose fat on the stomach ?

if you just want exercises to make your abs stronger, then planks are great. They are also good for the back, as long as you do them right! A lot of people get back pain from sit ups because they flex their spine a lot while doing them, but in planks you don't do that as it's a static exercise.

How do you do planks do you have a picture on how to do them ? Do they help with loose fat ? I have some fat on my legs but I do alot of walking on a daily basis, I'd consider at this point my legs are like steel. I don't have runners legs there just strong. It's mostly my upper body I'm currently concerned about.

Are you reading anything I write? Stop avoiding the fact that you need to eat right in order to lose fat. That's like 80%+ of the battle. If you're not willing to eat right, you're not willing to be healthy or lose fat. Simple as that. And you were already given the exercises. Google the plank. It's not difficult.

You do realize this is going to require effort, right?

I understand exactly what you're saying. I'm not a novice at loosing weight, I asked the question because I wanted some feedback from those who may spend a lot of there time, working out or reading up on health and fitness, while some things are common sense the work out part some have more knowledge in.

here:

It doesn't matter about the exercises, you could crunch yourself to death and still have lovehandles if you don't eat right.

Well I spend a lot of my time doing that :), and you're still not listening. The exercises were given to you, and you were told you need to eat right, but keep asking the same question. And now someone has to google the video/pic for you? Come on.

I had already Google it, before he had done it for me. I didn't need him to do that, he took it upon himself. Who said anything about not listening ? I just wanted to know some different types of workout it's quite obvious that diet is important.

Thank you, I've got my answer.
